None of that stupid background music, just the beautiful sound of the two poppers. Them two G's in tandem demonstrates the main difference between the styled and unstyled was just that; styling. What a great video.
Oh I jus so love these magnificent machines, my dad had 2 of these WAY BACK IN THE EARLY 80S, one was a 1951 A series the other a 52, B series, do I love them JOHNNY POPPERS, POPPN THEIR DISTINCT ENGINE COMBUSTION, ALMOST REMINDS OF THE SOUND OF THE GREAT LOCOMOTIVES OF THE 60S/70S THE GE U 330CS AND THE GE U33Bs, GREAT VIDEO MORE PLEASE 💪😁👌🤠👍 MORE!!!👍
John Deere brought out their first diesel engine tractor, the R model, in the late 40s, not with the 1960 launch of the first generation tractors, which moved away from the 2 cylinder tractors to 4 and 6 cylinder tractors. The R was also a 2 cylinder tractor, but with a diesel engine.
Dam I wish it would go back to those days the old 4020s and 4 row equipment just think back then that's all u needed now days people don't farm unless they have a 60 row planter and a 40 foot grain header
I cut my teeth on a 60 JD. My Dad got that tractor just for me when I was a kid. All because it had a hand clutch. I could not reach the foot clutch on the 420 we had, so we needed another tractor anyway, he got me the 60. From then on, all we had was JD with hand clutches. I've got a propane 60 out in the yard now. I had a clevis to break on me one time as a kid, and the rope that is pulled to lift the plows tore the seat off that 60. From then on, I hung that rope on baling wire, that wire just gripped that rope good enough to hold it, but break loose if I broke another clevis. Lucky I happened to be standing up when it broke.
I wouldn't tie that rope to your seat. If that plow comes lose and the rope doesn't break, your seat will be gone. My uncle had one of the small versions backing the '50s. That's some nice looking farmland yall are plowing. Wouldn't take much and your ready to plant.
@@i_eat_dirt2,,, oohhhhh, Please give us an example, or are you talking about the pony engine start ? even some of those two cylinder diesels do have electric starters,
@@theda850two no atleast some model As came with 2 tanks one for your running fuel diesel/kerosene then your starting tank that would be gasoline because its easier to start on cold
@@i_eat_dirt2 No, some were gas tractors, like my 1955 Model 70. Some were diesels, usually started with a gas pony engine. Some were TVO tractors: they started with gasoline, were then switched over to tractor vaporizing oil for the day, then switched back to gasoline prior to shutdown. TVO was a crude kerosene, not diesel.
John Deere, DID NOT "switch over to diesel engines" in the 60's. They had a number of TWO CYLINDER DIESEL MODELS several years before they came out with the "New Generation" 4 and 6 cylinder engine tractors, with both gasoline and diesel models.
You are correct. What I meant was more that they switched away from the 2cyl to the modern diesel engine designs that we know today and that diesel became the predominant fuel for the future of farm equipment. Didn't realize how it sounded until I watched it back.
Hope these operators wear hearing protection. My years of plowing with a 1954 JD-40 as a teenager without hearing protection has taken my hearing in old age. Good program, however.
I grew up on two cylinder John Deere tractors and I would like to hear them sound the way i remember them. Why is everyone putting straight pipes on them? That's not how they were in their day. When you spent long days on them you appreciated the muffler. As a matter of fact when the 30 series came out with the oval muffler, many farmers spent a little more when it was time to replace the muffler on their 20 series tractors and used 30 series oval mufflers instead.
Nothing more relaxing the sitting on an old tractor plowing or dragging !

Ahhh the sound of the 2 popper… my favorite is the 830… I could listen to that sound all day long…. Great video. I want an 830… maybe one day
Had a 1949 Model R for many years. Wish I still had it!
One of my Uncles big tractor from the mod 50s thru the mid 60s was a John Deere 70. Loved the pop, pop when it was plowing.
Bring me a great memories of the good times growing up
Those 2 bangers are so special
The 1st tractor i ever hears was an A john Deere and always enjoy hearing those old Poppin' Johnnies. I owned an MT, 2 A's, a G and a B.

Cool tractors for sure
I wish I had a picture of my dad's JD or remembered more about it. I hope it's still running somewhere.
I like old John Dreere tractors 🚜

great old iron is the best
Tractors are very special and powerful
The mighty little M still going!
I remember the sound of this tractor going down route 104 in Gaines, New York State back in the late 1950s.
Ok بگھی mkpfi, j, i, iyiyyu😊
Real farm tractors

Don't know the model no but my favourite was the one with steel wheels...
Yea that one is cool! I wish I had more footage to do a full video on it.
@tractorchasew
rs What model is it?
Hmmm... maybe a J Deere Waterloo Boy??
Thanks

Something I did remember is in the movie Conair an R model John Deere was used to pull that plane.
With me it was a hand start distillate model D.
Also a gas model A and a diesel model 70 pony starter.
A five wheel tractor. I had an AR that I used on my farm. My son cried when I sold it.
Little muddy there !

Great , beautiful how I would relish to use any of these older tractor... can any be imported to Kenya or how can they be found ..
What inspired you to make this video
couldnt figure the plow on little m did not look like a 3 point
They had a unique draw bar with a lift system. Fit M's only
That plow was made for the M only!!
Then tractors were so big and I only hope I could get a chance to drive
Why does it have 1 wheel on one side and double wheels on the other side??
Lol😂 Some of the two cylinders were diesel engines
Yea meant to say the modern diesel engines. Realized it when I watched it back 😂
all of them ran on diesel but where started on gasoline

Commentary killed it so I did not watch.
30 seconds of talking in an 8 minute video?
Aw that's a shame the tractors sounded good...
The last time I started mine the earths temperature went up 2 degrees
