    It's wonderful to watch Aston doing so well. But hearing Whitmarsh talking about success coming from being fully independent reminds me of Ron Dennis justifying his move to Honda engines a few years back.

    • @TheClarksonFan

      And a further irony there is that it was Whitmarsh as McLaren TP who had arranged for McLaren and Honda to partner before Ron Dennis sacked him.

    I don't think they were ever sold "throw away engines". Maybe Mec had them all dyno tested and choose to keep the "best" of the batch and sell on the "slightly" weaker ones.

    Haven't read all the comments, but what troked me the most in this video was that they ssaid that the advantage to have an exclusive partnership, the manufacturer (Aston Martin) can design their car and the enigne can be adapted to that shape. That is exactly what went wrong between McLaren and Honda. McLaren instructed Honda what to build. But a good engine also needs it's layout and room and that is the difference between the partnership with McLaren and Red Bull. Red Bull also listened to the needs of the engine manufacturer (Honda). They have their limitations as well. So I hope that AS doesn't make the same mistake as McLaren but learn from the collaboration between RedBull and Honda.

    The Yuki bit is speculative. So far, he hasn't shown the mental toughness to fight over a race distance. No matter how much Honda wants a Japanese driver, I don't think Lawrence Stroll will give them any wiggle room. Honda needs AM at least as much, if not more than, AM needs Honda.

    @Struggle.Snuggles ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I for one think this is the best route Aston Martin can take.
    Its gives them much more freedom and control versus being in a controlled relationship with Mercedes.
    One of the biggest issues in F1 with engine suppliers and its manufacturing teams is they have a major say in the engine they sell to other teams.
    Look at Mercedes and Ferrari how they have basically guaranteed they never have to worry about another team being bettet then them with the restrictions on the engines they sell.
    In truth, F1 needs more engine suppliers to give more teams a chance instead of being hindered

    • @BionicBurke
      @BionicBurke ปีที่แล้ว

      Redbull's teams are the only ones on the grid that are not car manufacturers. Honestly, all the teams should be making their own engines. Redbull doesn't make any cars, yet they are going to produce their own engines. Maybe add an engine cost cap separate from the rest of the car cost cap? Just a thought. If the car manufacturer represented by the team doesn't want to supply an engine they should get out of the sport.

    This could be very good for AMR, but it could also end up like the mid-2010s McLaren situation. The reason their second time partnering with McLaren failed wasn't because Honda couldn't build a good engine, it was because neither side could effectively communicate what they wanted to each other. And no, it wasn't just a language barrier problem.

    • @F1REVERSE
      @F1REVERSE  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hopefully Honda will have learnt from that. By the looks of their Red Bull collaboration in recent years, they know how to create a good engine in partnership with a team. The fact it is an exclusive deal with Aston means they aren't trying to sell to anyone else so it makes no sense for them to not just listen and collaborate

    • @championxxlNL
      @championxxlNL ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The problem was more that McLaren pushed them into f1 a year early and required an engine much smaller than the other Teams. There was also zero communication like you said. Rb was very open about their design which made honda more open which created such an awesome partnership. I do believe both am and honda have learned from all of this and will work together as 1 team, if they do that they can create a serious good car

Laurence Stroll is a family man, but he is also a businessman and a winner, even if we think, and it's normal, that he will want his son in the seat, As I know so far from past business ventures that Mr Stroll has done, he will not hesitate to replace his son, if he does not perform, F1 is a Highend performance sport, both Lance and Laurence knows it, and Lance, himself is an intelligent young man, I believe he has the talent to win races, does he has the talent to be world champion, it's for him to prove, and if he does not, I don't think his father will make him stay there for much longer, Laurence Stroll is not there to be a mid-pack racing team, and Lance will have to step up soon and prove it. I think too many people bank on his seat being safe... those people never worked for their family business and it shows, working for your dad or the family businesses, also means you have a lot more pressure, to counter the natural thinking that we all have... thank you.

    Martin Withmarsh is making the same mistakes he did with Honda while in McLaren. Honda won't have enough data to analyze regarding their new engine (only two cars per weekend). Honda won't design his engine for AMR's car, they will desing what they think it's the best engine. There will be culture clash (engine department in Japan, European team). Honda's commitment to F1 is not solid, it's never been. And lastly, Honda wanting a Japanese driver (kicking Alonso out) will doom the partnership. Also, AMR doesn't have the manpower, experience nor economic resources to keep up the in-season development war. They should keep learning with Mercedes as the senior partner, AMR is not ready to be on its own.

    Hard to see Alonso still there in 2026, in terms of pure speed and age. How Honda perform in 2026 is still unknown. They had a terrible time with the new regs compared to the other manufacturers in 2015 so who’s to say they build the best engine this time? For a period of time just like 2014 -2017 the car with the best engine will win the championship until everyone else catches up and Aero becomes the deciding factor again. Hard to put money on Honda building a better engine than Mercedes out of the box of a new formula given recent history. I suspect Alonso will retire in 2025. And as for Tsunoda Japan need to find some new drivers because I’m not sure he has the mentality it takes to be a champion. 2026 is a long way away and he’s been very inconsistent and temperamental despite 2023 being his best start to a season compared to his teammate.

    If yuki isn’t good enough now he never will be, if Aston want to be a top team why would u hire a driver who isn’t even as good as a teammate (gasly) who was rejected by another top team? Unless they just want a Japanese driver like how BAR wanted Sato just for PR….. if Honda are just as serious about success they will go for Charles or lando, maybe even Russel if merc don’t improve/decide to pull out

    sorry mate it was 2009 when Martin Whitmarsh was team boss of McLaren, Ron Denis was still active at the team threw out 2008. it was on the 1 March 2009 that Denis did step down, i know that very well as well Im a McLaren fan. Martin was at the team yes that is why sometimes hes on the podium with lewis and that dont mean hes team boss, anyone from the team from CEO to Tyre guy can be up there.
    also why do you think it held them back? you never really explained it just called it and ignored the ones that said it didnt cost them. explain.
    oh and Honda wont last they will have 2 or 4 years and then pull out and i will not listen to a random person replying, i dont know you there for i have no reason to trust you. so save your time and dont waste it as it will just be brushed off. and please no Lewis hate its 2023 and lets not hate eachother due to the drivers we support try to grow up.

    I have nothing against the analysis, but it is clear your bias against Mercedes. It it true that they failed producing a championship winning car, however they are not the reason Aston Martin has not won. Red Bull is just too good to loose and other teams are playing catch up, more like the other teams did during Mercedes or Ferrari golden era.

    • @whackeryounis
      @whackeryounis ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure how that is bias. Everything he said is true. Merc give them engines and it is embarrassing that AMR are beating them despite the engine being specifically desgined for the Merc car. He didn't say them not winning is entirely down to the merc engine. Everyone knows no one is beating red bull but you can't deny they're being held back by a lack of independent engine. There's zero bias in this video. It's all facts.

    is lawrence stroll really that ruthless?
    what kind of a question is this?
    his son is underperforming at an alarming rate, it is abundantly clear he must go.
    ruthless is if he was managing to bring in some points every now and again but there was a better more consistent driver out there.
    at this stage, letting lance go is doing him a favour. he cannot win a WDC even if u give him Max's current car. He is at best a wingman. He is not useful to AM should they want to challenge and i guarantee he is going to cost them a shot at #2 in the WCC this year.

    Of course Honda loathes loud mouth alonso and doesn't want him by 2026 using their engines. The Japanese are very stuffy about that. The problem daddy stroll has is that his boy is talentless and too slow to fight for a championship, regardless of the package. So, between Honda wanting a japanese driver (also not good enough), and daddy stroll wanting his boy there, the green force india doesn't stand a chance of ever winning a championship ever.
