Thanks for the tips. I was considering replacing my hollow core door for a solid core, but I will try the weatherstrip and sweep first and see how it goes.

Thanks for the explanation and especially adding the graphics for the difference. Going to try and pick up a solid core door on craiglist (saw them going for around $60) and redo the weather stripping and get a sealer

The major con for me (which is why I looked this up) is not being able to screw things to the door without an anchoring screw. I recently put a stud finder to an interior door and could not find a single spot I can screw a coat hook on. Now I know why.

Thanks for the vid, but what's your take on solid core v solid wood doors? And re solid wood, are hardwood any better than softwood?

I have been doing some research on how I can reduce the echo effect in my room. I'm talking about the reverbs that occurs when sound bounce off a wall and does a ricochet around the room. As a youtuber, I'm sure you know all about it.
Your channel keeps coming up and I can see that you have some great info on this matter. I've a suggestion for a video topic, for you. It will fit nicely with a problem that I have. I've a small 9'x11' room with original hardwood oak flooring. I own the place. I'm using the room as both an office to do podcasting/TH-cam and writing on my PC. There is also a futon couch for a guest to sleep over.
I already got a soundproof curtain coming and it's from your favorite company. I've also purchased a tapestry for the one wall and a fleece throw blanket for the couch. The couch has a firm fabric. Hopefully, the blanket helps. The only issue is the rug.
I do not have the money for wall-to-wall carpet or a large area rug. For something that's supposed to be helpful, I'm surprised at the low amount of information on this. According to my own research, I needed to stay away from rugs that are weave style or low to flat surface. They apparently don't do a good job of absorbing sound. I did get a 45"x29" accent rugs that have cut pile or have a shaggy texture. Is one enough? I won't know for certain until the rest of the stuff comes in.
I would have loved a detailed videos on just rugs and nothing else.

Door sweeps are not commonly used in my country. Would a proper wooden “step” with weather sealing not be superior for isolation anyway?

Anything that closes any gaps works. Shine a bright light from the other side. If you can see any light through any gaps, it can be improved.

My local supplier is giving me two options for the door leaf: either a solid-core door (more massive), or a hollow door (lighter) but filled with mineral wool (an acoustic insulation material) on the inside. Both doors have 4.2cm thickness. The seller claims the hollow door with mineral wool will soundproof better than the solid-core, but I dunno... Which should I choose?

@@SciaticaDrums anyone who's ever built a movie theater doesn't use mineral wool as a sound dampener. It is MASS that is the most effective solution. Two layers of 5/8 drywall sandwiches acoustical sealant is an example of one. If mineral wool was as good, why wouldn't movie theaters build using them in their design? They don't. They use concrete blocks or poured concrete walls to keep the sound within the building. Mineral wool only works perfectly when it is exposed to the air and able to absorb sound. When it's enclosed inside a wall or door, it's as effective as normal fiberglass batta in sound absorption

Hollow core doors defeat the whole purpose for having a door to begin with. What's the point of having a cheap hollow core door with a lock if you can just kick the door in with no problem. A door is not just for privacy but it's also for protection. Hollow core doors a joke even if you are broke.

Commonly available interior solid core doors are easily kicked in as well.
People typically have locks on interior doors so they can get dressed etc.
I welded security frames around my doors because I weld a lot..
Don’t think your solid core door offers any protection if you don’t have steel plate jambs properly installed in the framing.
