    I have a baryton voice, and enjoy the C214 a lot - for me, it's leaps and bounds over my other 2 condenser mics; RØDE NT2 and MXL 440 - but it sounds straight up AWESOME with a full deep voice like yours! I mean, if I sounded like that, I think our little dog would crap itself - but I'd love to have that boomy voice of yours! Also: Thanks for satisfying my curiosity about the P220.

      Thanks my friend! The C214 is still my too microphone! Does the NT2 handle your voice better than the 440? I've been curious about those two mics!

    I'm a live engineer who is just starting to get into some studio work (and building my studio mic locker)... Listening on reference grade equipment, it is really clear that the 214 is a better mic. The P220 has capsule resonance in the lower pitches played, which overshadow the subtleties that you can really hear in the 214.

    Pareciera que tiene un efecto ya incluido en el C124... falta el reverb un poco en el p220

    220 did a good job with the flute, but C214 definitely sounded better with your spoken voice. Thanks for the video.

    For recording brass instruments, using a condenser like the AKG C214 to capture the miss & highs and a ribbon mic to capture the lows works pretty well

    you can clearly hear the c214 has more presence and less "hollowness" on his voice than the p220 but not by much, however, he seems to be sitting a bit closer to the c214

    I am a singer and having a non-treated room.
    Currently i use a USB condensor mic but it captures a lot of room noise(hissing sound) along with my vocals.
    Is this an issue with mic or because of mic?
    If, I plan to upgrade my mic to get rid of noise, is it a good thought?
    Which mic do you suggest from the list below:
    1. Lewitt 240 Pro
    2. AKG P120 or P220
    3. Se Selectronics xA1

      I agree...it seems to have a little more midrange push that brings out more presence in his voice. I was all set to grab the 214 for VO, but now I'm not so sure.

    Thank you very much for a very usefull comparison! Btw you have a wonderfull bass voice👍 There are extremely few mic tests done with your voice type. It might actually be a good niche for your YT content. I am looking for a mic suitable for my bass-ish voice. I am at least 2-3 semitones above you, and struggling with getting definition in the lowest parts of the register. (Mostly to soft and breathy). I was looking at p220 due to its unusual boost around 40-70Hz and otherwise quite neutral response. It does have a slight boost from 6-11kHz topping out at ca 3,5dB. I find it does make it sound crispy, but not as much as the c214 with the same type of boost but located 1.5kHz higher in the register and maxing out at 5dB. To much in my ears making the s sounds a little to aggressive. I do find the p220 exceptionally well suited to your voice. Maybe it will amplify the breathyness and overtones to much in mine. Anyway, if you would considder testing other mics for bass voice, I would love that. And I think it might be a hit, albeit with a limited target demographic 🙂 Best wishes!

      Fully agree. I have rather low voice. Got AKG P220 today. No such small dynamic details as 214 has, but still i am very pleased. I think it's good for novice singers, because it sounds somehow smooth.
      I think the diaphragm has higher mass.
      And also I have no clue why do we have all this hype around Audio Technica mics these days.

    • @CaneMajor
      @CaneMajor  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! In my experience the condenser mic is the best choice for recording. However, for an untreated room, you will have to experiment with different mic positions to get the best recordings. Dynamic mics do have their place but I always record with a condenser mic. Good luck with your projects!

    Clearly the c214 is more balanced and defined.
    But do you think a final and professional recording with the P220 is possible?
    I found the p220 very good and I imagine that after an audio mix the sound will be really professional.

      @spawn302 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely! Im not the channel creator, but it doesnt seem like he answered your question really. There are definitely advantages to recording with higher end mics. However this is usually subtle in nature and mighy make the mixing process a little easier. FINNEAS, Billie Eilish's brother/producer, recorded "Ocean Eyes" using an AT2020, a $100 mic. And of course this song went on to make millions. So as far as whether or not you can record professional equipment on the P220, thats a yes. P220 is a cut above the AT2020 IMO and more than enough for sa professional recording.

    The 214 is clearer but the 220 has better dynamic range from what I hear on your recordings... I think mixed they would give a better overall sound, I’d probably run about 80% 214 and blend in the 220 to fill the gaps... AKG makes nice stuff I’ve got a 120 that is good enough I’ve never thought about replacing it with anything else, I blend it with a SM57, have the 220 on a desk mount for acoustic guitar, it’s a little too good at picking up background noise but it’s got great fidelity...

    Hi Trace, I just bought a used AKG P200 (blue version) and I was very surprised by its sound, especially acoustic steel string guitars recorded very well. I wonder if you can tell me what the difference is between the P200 and the P220. And are the newer black versions better than the blue versions?

    • @CaneMajor
      @CaneMajor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello! I'm not sure about the 200 however the Blue Perception 220 does have a slightly warmer sound than the black P220. The blue one appears to be made of better materials. This sounds like a good idea for a video!

    • @jerrykooyman
      @jerrykooyman 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CaneMajor Hi Grace, that would be great if you can make a video about it. Right now I have two of the old blue P200 and I made a stereo recording of my acoustic steel string guitar. The result is amazing compared with what I had before with other mics. The great thing with these P200's is that it keeps the body in the sound when I have more distance between the mics and the guitar. Most other mics gets a thinner sound when you have more distance. These AKG P200 are warm, open and clear at the same time.
      The strange thing is that the blue P170 sounds very dull compared with the P200. Do you have any idea why that is? Cause in generally a small condensor mic sounds more bright.

    I have a C214 and a P220. The P220 is much more flattering to my voice, however the C214 might be a better choice for, say, stringed instruments because it seems to have a nicer sounding high end. The C314 does not flatter my voice at all; the upper mid-range just does not sound good for my voice.
