  • I have now had Lyme disease twice and ticks are everywhere! It is next to impossible to stop them when you work outside as much as I do every day but we have to keep fighting them....here are some ways to slow them down!

    Thanks, Chris! +1 for going to the doc immediately -- my sweetheart got a tick on our property and her doctor prescribed doxycycline right away to get ahead of the infection in case she had picked up Lyme. Luckily she hadn't. Also, we're big believers in permethrin on our outdoor clothes and picaridin (which also works on deer flies, thankfully -- and the Ranger Ready brand comes in non-stinky scents). Glad you're feeling better!

    Good morning Chris, you're right about the ticks! I had Lyme disease along with Cellulitis in 2015, inever knew a body could hurt so much! There were days I thought I was going to die and days I wish I would've! I use Permethrin on my clothes when I'm in the woods and especially turkey hunting and have had outstanding luck with keeping ticks off me! Lyme is NOTHING to sneeze at and can be debilitating and possibly deadly! Another bad disease is West Nile virus. My best friend's brother in MT contracted it and nearly died, he's in a permanent care center and will be the rest of his life! He cant even breathe on his own! Stay safe, hope you and Kenny get better! GNI

    Just started on Doxycycline on 6/18 for Lyme Disease. Had a tiny tick to bite on back of my left leg. Developed the worst joint pain, headaches, fever, cold chills, just stay exhausted. On meds for 21 days, feeling better but not 100%. If you get bitten, write the date down and save the tick in an empty pill bottle if possible, but please get checked. This has been hard for me as I have existing autoimmune problems. Even if you test negative, push the doctor to put you on Doxycycline. The sooner the better.

I have to let them bit me cause the fly sprays bothers me cause I have allergies to all sorts of things. Living with allergies for years now is a hard life cause cannot do much when it comes to certain smells and cannot eat certain food. But have to continue on. I agree with what you said on your video. I agree with your ideas about just get outside and live. Not so sure about the "sarcastic" remark about lyme originating in a lab considering that the first cases were documented in 1764 in Scotland, I don't think we have invented time travel yet. 😂

      Taken from CDC own website. Borrelia burgdorferi was first described in 1975 in Lyme Connecticut
      CDC.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/00001024.htm
      Similar to coronavirus. It may have existed in nature for millennia but man has fiddled with it for his own aims and left us all worse off for it

      The strain we have was first discovered in the USA by a lab that did medical research right by LYME CONNECTICUT so that might be an issue??? Maybe in 1764 the medical research was a bit different/off than modern times??? I am not that kind of doctor I just talk smart on youtube!! Ha!

    I don't like spraying poison on myself. I check myself over when I come in and shower. I will take my chance with nature and go to the doctor if I need to. Tics can be a real problem. We have few around the house in about a 3 acre area because we free range our chickens. they are death on tics. Our dog used to get 7-8 tics a week, she has had 1, that we know of in the last 7 years after we got chickens. This was a really good video. Don't be afraid of life because none of us are going to live forever. I won't go to Canada when the black flies and mosquitoes are thick.

    Thank you so much for all the Lyme disease important information. When I go out in the woods, I tuck my pant legs inside tall socks which help kept the little buggers from crawling up inside my pants. I stop now and then to check for ticks. When I get home my wife will check for ticks on me in areas I can't see. If it not funny guys. If you think you have this disease, please see your doctor. My very best to the lady that is your friend who has been disabled by Lymes disease.

    Hi Chris. I am one of those canadians that live with all those mosquitos you talked about, lol. Some of the stuff I do when cutting trees, etc in the woods is, I wear gators around my boots to cover my boots and pant bottoms. Need the ones that come up to the knee. There is a draw string to tighten up at the top as well. They really do work great. I use them for fly fishing as well, keeps rocks and crap out of my boots too, bonus. As well as loose nylons type pants too. I find those bugs and others have a bit of a harder time sticking to them as cotton jeans , etc. Long sleeve shirts help as well. I use a product called Watkins mosquito repellent too. Not as bad as some other products out there. These things seem to work well for me and others I know. No chemicals really required. ;) Anyways, that's my 2 cents for what it's worth. To each their own! Anyways, stay healthy and have an awesome day! Cheers!

    I’ve had both Lyme and Rocky Mountain. Luckily always caught them immediately and never suffered any effects from it. But what I’ve done for the last 2 years is had my yard sprayed every 3 weeks. I have not seen a tick or had one on me since then (knock on wood lol). Money well spent. You can do it yourself if you want. I think this is the best solution. I can’t remember to put on bug spray every time I go outside. I’m in NC so with our mild winters the ticks are terrible. You should consider spraying your wood yard. We have 15 acres so we can’t spray the whole property but we spray about a 3 acre section, our yard, around the shop and the woodyard.

    • @InTheWoodyard
      @InTheWoodyard  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      What are the side affects of the spray to you/pets /kids/birds..... If it kills bugs it probably isn't good. But we are all going to die from something so....

      @@InTheWoodyard Amen to that. Once it is in the soil, it comes in on your feet. If anyone sits on the ground, kids, pets. You are putting poison in the soil forever. I spent 20 years as a Health inspector. What you are doing to yourself, and your environment is worse than anything a tic can do to you.
