Electric Fan Conversion on 01 2500hd

The truck is a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD 6.0L that is completely stock. In this video I will be installing a factory Heavy Duty 9 Blade Electric Fan Assembly from a 2011 2500HD Truck along with a Nelson Performance wiring harness. I used HP Tuners to write a new calibration for the PCM so the fans will operate correctly. This is just a educational video of how I outfitted my truck with factory Electric Fans and shouldn’t be taken as the right way, professional way, or legal way of modifying your own vehicle. That being said modify at your own risk.

For 99-02 Trucks you will need an upgrade on the harness to allow the fans to work properly with the AC functions.
Nelson Performance has it and so does BP Automotive. It does require adding three extra wires to the PCM on top of adding the blue/green ones.

I’m doing this same setup this weekend, when you’re in the highway let’s say above 65 and turn on the AC does that mean that the High speed fans will automatically turn on even when going at that speed? Or will they know that it’s tuned to turn both fans off at 50( since it’s what mine is tuned at) and also will the truck warm up on its own and turn both low and high speed whenever it needs even if the AC isn’t on? Hey man after you did this conversation did you ever have problems with your ac system over cooling up to the point where it freezes up ? (Check under your hood look at the accumulator after a long drive with your ac on and check if it has any frost on top of it or on any ac lines) ive heard of a few having this problem on the 99-02s, im getting ready to do this on mine and was curious on your setup cus it is similar to mine thank you in advance!

I don’t have any problems with my A/C freezing up or over cooling as you mention.

Could you provide the link to the exact harness you got? I went on the website but the harness that looks closest to the one you have , has different plugs for the fan plugs

Which one is fan 1 and which one is fan 2
Are both supposed to come on low and high once up to set temp, or is one fan low and one fan for high

I have a question on my 01 gmc I did the conversation and I had a wire in pin 33 took that off. Now my ax clutch does not engage any suggestions?

You could tap it to that wire and it should work that's what I'm gonna do or you could get the ac upgrade kit

Hey brother I have a question. I connect my “pin 33) redC2” into the same green while still having both on the same line just like you. Do your fans turn on before temp if you turn on your ac?
