ADHD tip! Something that helps me as a busy mom with keeping my house clean is having a “put away” basket in a room when you’re cleaning it. So for example while you’re cleaning the bathroom and you find a toy that should be in Flynn’s room you put it in the basket instead of going to his room and getting distracted by a different task you need to do. Helps me actually clean one room completely instead of partially cleaning every room!

Great tip!! May I add that Flynn can carry the “Flynn Basket” to his room and put his things away on his own. It’s a great system for your brain and his independence/sense of order/feelings of ownership of his belongings. Love it!!

To add to this, I saw somewhere “don’t clean a room, clean a spot”. The concept is to work with adhd instead of against it, so pick one area in a room… a kitchen sink, the bed, a desk, etc. and you don’t stop until that spot is clean. So if u do all the side tasks, that’s okay, but you always take yourself back to that spot until it’s done. I think especially in larger rooms or open concept spaces this could help

We don't get to see much of them interacting together in the vlogs, but I'd assume they do considering Kory has lived with your family off and on throughout the years. I don't understand why people ever think it is okay to comment on anybody's weight. I just want you to know I (along with so many other people) am so proud of you for recognizing your disordered eating and working to try to make it better and be healthier for yourself, you are a gorgeous, amazing human being doing the best you can and I can't believe people want you to keep explaining yourself especially after you've acknowledged it and said you are never trying to promote disordered eating or eating disorders, however, you have so kindly shared your story with us and it will actually help many people to not feel alone if they are struggling similarly. I, myself, struggle with disordered eating and used to be very underweight; now I have gained weight to reach a healthier weight but I do still struggle with disordered eating and I do not eat healthily at all so it really is comforting to hear you talk about it and understand how I feel about it in a way that it feels like nobody else does. It's always funny to me when I hear about the last name discussion. Where I live, in Quebec, we keep our birth name even if we get married. I have family members that lived in Turkey who lost their lives and it is such a hard time for me and my family. I live in Florida so my hands are tight and I can’t do anything to help and be there for my family. I will try to donate to the community myself since that is all I am able to do, and it would mean so much if any of you can also help donate to the families that lost their family members or even their homes. There are so many people now without a place to stay, so many who have survived but lost their family in the process, orphans that lost their parents and now has no place to go. It is so devastating. The death numbers is well over 10,000 for right now, and we know the numbers will continue to grow significantly. There are so many people that are still trapped underneath the collapsed buildings. It is such a horrible tragedy for all of us. 😢

I grew up in a time when mental health was never talked about, which made my life miserable. As someone with ADHD I was ridiculed by teachers, yelled at by everyone and punished for being me. The worst part is my accomplishments were never celebrated because it was expected that the things I did well were supposed to happen. No one ever though I could use support or help with anything. As an adult I learned to teach myself to deal with life as it was. I live by lists, I am not afraid to ask questions and ask for support which helps so much. Not sure if you knew this and it is totally random but that big rock with the white belt around it that Wesley was sitting next to at the beach was a wishing stone! If you trace your fingers along the white belt while making a wish then return the rock to the water it’s said your wish will come true! You can also gift them to loved ones to bring them luck. Might sound silly but it’s something I learned while visiting Alaska and I love the story behind those rocks! That’s the biggest one I’ve ever seen 😁

hey colleen, i have ADHD too, although im not a busy mom i do have a few tips for cleaning: 1. find one room or area that you want to get clean and although you are a no shoe household, put on a pair of shoes - even just cheap ones from the supermarket that are only for inside use. 2. put on a podcast using headphones so it blocks out any distracting noises - this step really helps me because my brain is distracted and so im not thinking about all my other jobs to do. 3. get a basket for things that belong elsewhere eg. a baby toy that should be in the twins room but is in the kitchen so that when you finish cleaning that room you can 'deliver' those things to their correct places. 4. give yourself a big green tick next to what you accomplished on your whiteboard. ilysm you're doing amazing x

I wanted to let you know that your being open and honest about your ADHD has changed my life. It wasn't until you spoke about ADHD that I knew it could present differently in women. I've struggled immensely, particularly over the last five years (from 17 until now 22), been to countless GPs and have just chalked it up to being lazy and unmotivated.
This has weighed heavily on my shoulders, and I struggle with low confidence and depression. Your opening up and talking about ADHD has been life-changing as I realised that I am not alone in what im going through. I've started to understand why I do the things I do, im beginning to realise that im not just lazy or lesser, but that my brain works a little differently. Thank you so much im not sure you'll ever realise what a massive impact this has had on my life. Sending love from Australia ❤

I just wanted to say I love when you talk about your ADHD because I've been "told" by a doctor, 7 yrs ago, that I could have it, but wasn't diagnosed or put in my file. I'm a CNA and it actually affects my job, not with my residents, and also my home life, either not talking to someone or being on a medication to help. It has gotten quite bad lol. I have two insurances, but I can't afford the co-pay for help through my job insurance and the one place I can get help, I can only have one insurance and it isn't my job one..isn't that some stuff. To go along with the shoe thing: house shoes count too! Once I got a nice pair of slippers with a back strap, it helped me get stuff done. I mention the back strap because the ‘extra step’ of putting them on plus them feeling secure on my feet helps. It puts me in more of a “I’m ready” mindset to get things done. Maybe if you have one specific pair just for doing work at home would help?? Just a thought!

Hey Colleen- in response to your tortilla talks question about busy moms with Adhd! Hi, I’m a fellow mom with ADHD. I got tested because I resonated with your video about adhd posted like 2 years ago. What I do for myself is writing it down in a calendar- my phone- a sticky note… YES ALL 3! I put my shoes on to clean my house (house shoes). I also get up in the morning and IMMEDIATELY do a task. I take my medication for it as well. I will get up, get myself ready for the day, take my medication etc. just starting the day with a task THAT WILL CLEAR YOUR MENTAL SPACE. Even if it’s clearing off an end table or vacuuming a small portion of a room. It helps a ton for me! Best of luck girl! ❤️ love you!

Probably one of my favorite tortilla talks yet. I was literally thinking of commenting on what an inspiration you’ve been to me as a mom. I go back and forth about having kids but watching you tackle the struggles of motherhood while having ADHD is huge for me. Sometimes I swear you’re speaking words from my own head 😂 thank you for your vulnerability!
Quick tip for the negative thoughts that may not be super helpful but it changed the game for me. When I go to talk negatively about myself, I stop myself and think about what is really happening and reframe it. So rather than “I just mess everything up because I’m the worst” I switch to “I’m clumsy sometimes and make mistakes, but that’s ok”. I’m not great at positive affirmations or complimenting myself, but seeing things as they are instead of making them out to be a character flaw has almost eliminated negative self thoughts for me. Took a while and a lot of practice, but over time it gets easier.
Thanks again for being you and being vulnerable with people like me! you’re incredible 💖

I just moved (3 weeks ago) and I'm having a really hard time adjusting to my new space and feeling settled. I know you said you don't feel settled yet, but maybe you have some tips! Love you Colleen!!

TTQ- Have you thought about getting rolling bins and putting pictures and the word of what goes in each Drawer for clean up?(I suggested this a while ago). It will help Flynn(and the Twins) with learning how to clean up (I did this with my daughter and in my Pre-school class). It will take longer, but will be really helpful with the kids. I also like to do “clean up-freeze dance “ It makes clean up more fun! Felicia in MD

I never took my husband’s name and he could care less!!! We both understand a committed marriage goes far beyond some letters. We said our vows and LIVE by them. A name doesn’t define anything.

Me too! I kept my own very unique last name when I got married. My son has my last name and his dads name as a second middle name. My husband insisted we do it this way because it mattered more to me than it did to him. It worked out 😁
