    Hey Josh!
    I just received my TOEFL score of 101 (R 26, L 27, S 27, W 21) and wanted to thank you.
    Your videos have been a big help, in one of your videos where you were giving out tips to prepare for Toefl you had said that stop watching lot of TH-cam videos and start preparing (all those who plan to give toefl, this is the first thing that you need to do) , it was really helpful because before that all I did was watch videos and not put any effort in the actual preparation but after that I started taking reading test later worked on the speaking and listening sections but I didn't put much effort into the writing section thinking it was easy but my poor decision was reflected on the score. (On the test day I did not have the time to review what i had written since my time management in the writing section was very poor.)
    I got this score with just 10 days of preparation.
    English was the medium of instruction in my school as well as in my under graduate program so all I needed was to understand the exam, your videos have been a big help in doing so.
    I am sure many more will find your videos very useful in their preparation like me, so thanks a lot Josh!

      Hi there and good point. You need to write down only the most important information, mostly verbs and nouns, omit some vowels, and use symbols. Check out this article for more information - tstprep.com/articles/toefl/taking-notes-for-the-listening-section-of-the-toefl-test/

    I also didn't take notes during the listening section and got a 30, mostly because I have great memory when it comes to auditory data, and writing notes would actually split my focus.

      I think looking at your notes is fine! I don't recommend reading your notes, there is a BIG difference. If you read your notes, you will probably sound robotic and stiff. As long as you sound comfortable and natural when you speak, you can respond however you like, with or without notes.

  • @iamvalenci4
    @iamvalenci4 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    well, this is a criticism. You said that we need to take notes, but when you are answering the questions, you do not see your notes, so why do we need to take notes? if you don't use your notes to answer the questions. Another thing, that I would like to share here, is your videos of practice listening, are very far from the real test because in your videos of lecture I never see a question from the professor to the student o from the professor to catch the attention of the students. And I could say another thing that is very far from the real listening section. Please I know you need to make money from this, but try to help the student in a real way.

    • @TSTPrep
      @TSTPrep  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thank you for your feedback Valencia and I can tell you are very intelligent. You see right through me.
      "Please I know you need to make money from this, but try to help the student in a real way." So you are suggesting that I am making this video just to make money (about $5/month from ad revenue) and I am purposely trying to mislead students and waste their time?
      What a jerk I must be (and a poor jerk at that).
      Also, in regards to your better critique, "You said that we need to take notes, but when you are answering the questions, you do not see your notes, so why do we need to take notes?"
      Again, as I said in the beginning, you do not have to take notes.
      I do recommend them. Even though I do not use them extensively, they help keep me focus during the listening and serve as memory cues when answering the questions, as I said in the video.
      Also, please let me know how I can "help the student in a real way."
      I thought the videos on the channel were helpful but clearly, I'm missing something according to your expertise.
