Update: I have been in contact with one of the managerial staff from Voyce, who is still with the company. I have successfully verified their identity and obtained a message they wish to share anonymously. "Hey Mason, I'm part of Voyce and unfortunately, almost all international personnel under Voyce is going to get fired, we have already gone through massive layoffs on the staff side, and it looks like the last round was for the interpreters. I wanted to post this under your video, but didn't want my name attached so visibly. I wish I could warn everyone to just start looking for new jobs, but I am trying to give advance warnings to everyone I can."
Please mason ask him/her if he knows if they will fire more interpreters from Latin America (we are the lowest payed) and just and approximate date on when it will happen 😢
Do you think there is any way, as you mentioned at the end of the video, to communicate our concerns to the higher-ups at Voyce without facing repercussions? How can we expose the unethical practices of Voyce firing people without notice?
I definitely feel you; however, there are many realistic major obstacles that make unionization process extremely difficult for remote interpreters… This is something that I am sure I will make a video about in the future. Thank you for your comment and stay tuned!
Yes Unionizing it’s difficult, not impossible . Should have been done years ago as there is no reason a skilled professional should be earning less than $20 or even less than $30
Thank you so much for this video! I was fired, they didn't give me any explanation, I was having only "exceeding expectations" can't explain what I felt when I received that email all of a sudden after my dedicated shift and the following day I was going to work. There are no words to describe how frustrating this is. The good news is that I'm a freelancer for another language and platform. Even though I will look for a second option again because of the example of the eggs... Keep on doing this videos, I was absolutely shocked by what happened, and this video was a lot to me.
I wasnt fired but they suddenly told me they had to change my schedule, I told them okay, lower my hours from 5 to 4 (because i have a life outside of my job!) And they said ok, will be effective on december On nov 20 something they unexpectedly changed my schedule to the new one AND THEY HAD PUT THE 5 HOURS I SAID NOT TO USE they solved it quickly but i didnt work those hours bc they weren't what we agreed on. Since the merge it's been so disorganized
Can't agree more. Many people woke up to this email that was sent around 2~3 am in the morning, the day before Thanksgiving in the U.S... so yes, awful is the right word. 😮💨
Thank you for making this video. Our Mandarin Interpreters' group has been expecting your comments on this matter. I can imagine how hard this could be for interpreters soly depending on Voyce's income and got terminated. This was really unethical practice. We interpreters are so disappointed with Voyce from a company that had high reputation among interpreters to this point.😰😰😰
I appreciate the comment! The channel I want to build is a place where I introduce and inform other interpreters who will feel comfortable sharing their thoughts on the matter I cover. So this channel will mean nothing without other interpreters who subscribe to my channel! Thank you so much for the comment! 🥰
I am sure they won’t know the exact pay grades their interpreters get, and I also believe that many will be fairly surprised once they find out how much some interpreters actually get paid.
I have one question. Do you know how much an outsourcing company take from interpreters? Because if an interpreter works for an outsourcing company then he’s not receiving 100% of the income, a certain amount is taken by the outsourcing company. I’m wondering how much it is
It sure should be. The purpose of making this video was to raise awareness of the situation to as many interpreters as possible, so that there are less interpreters who become completely income-less when another incident like this happens in the future.
Yes, and to be exact, the $20/hr vs $6/hr reference you made would be a debate of “US based” vs “Non-US based” interpreters. This is surely a controversial topic that many interpreters have been debating about and I am hoping to make a video about it in the future! Thank you for your input and stay tuned!
Hi mate, I still work with them as freelancer but also a parttimer, do you think they will continue firing more of us? I get payed 6 dollar the hour and .21 as a fl.thanks in advance for your attention. 🎉
I don't think so at the moment, but they might, so take your precautions and look for a second freelance job, that's what I'm doing because we can't live in fear of being fired at any moment.
@@S.Sophia999 I really want to say that this shouldn’t discourage your intentions of becoming an interpreter, but the fact is that it surely will for many new interpreters. There’s no easy way of saying this, but this wasn’t the first time it happened and most likely won’t be last. I think it is still important to be aware of situations like this, especially for new interpreters. Stay strong!🤞

@@CinevaCeva2 Hello there! Thank you for the comment. A Facebook group called US Medical Interpreters has a list of hiring LSPs posted by the admin, which I highly recommend to anyone who is actively looking for a position. Thanks for listening to my rant and I hope you have a wonderful day!
Hi mate 👋 I'm sorry what happened wasn't good but as u said before never put all your eggs in one basket everyone needs to have 2 to 3 account of freelance and one Schedule shift incase of misfortune happen once again I'm sorry😢 😢😢
This is my concern. If they do not give a damn about interpretation quality (since that is what one deduces from the shift to the new hiring form) once AI is ready to take calls for interpretation no matter how good it is they will get rid of all us just for the sake of cost issues!
Despite the general consensus, yes, this is a plausible and feasible threat to all interpreters. I do have another video about my thoughts on AI taking over our job. Feel free to check it out if you are interested! Greatly appreciate your comment and I hope you subscribe and stay tuned for more videos. Thank you! 🥰

@@masontheinterpreter and the reason is?
I was waiting for this video, many of our Spanish interpreters colleagues were fired too even though they were working every day. 😢
Thank you for waiting and the comment! Indeed, this is not something that should happen to hard working interpreters!
The interpreter union is the way to proceed, fellas
Agree. Above all cuz AI is already here
Unionizing is the ONLY way.

Wondering if they will continue or if to ask management about it.
Do any of you think hospital staff would care if they found out the conditions we work under? Like we get paid 6 usd/hour?

Main issue is that. They find an interpreter paid 20$ , on the other hands there is huge interpreters ready for 8$ an hour. This is the main reason.
Their rates vary between countries. For Peru, they pay us 6 USD per hour in DS, or 0.21 cents per minute interpreted as a freelancer.

Oh NO! And I was saving to afford the NBCMI certificate…

@ Mason, Thank you for posting this important information. And for your kind words ✨ 🙏
The thing is, will this stop or what? I have been with Voyce since 2022.
Unfortunately, that I do not know. No matter your current situation, my suggestion is to try find ways to be less reliant on just one LSP.

Instead of your usual voyce rant, can you just provide solutions like what companies are hiring and where to look for alternatives?
