I’m torn between dream wielder, steady body and nailmasters glory, they are all top tier charms. But the fact that people think dream wielder is bad...
I'm more used to Steady Body, I have no problem using Dream Wielder tho. But Nailmaster's Glory is just not usually in my build unless I'm exploring or doing the Delicate Flower quest. I just forget about Nail Arts unless I have a LOT of time to think, like that time I got stuck in the Soul Eater charm room with 2 masks and had to use Cyclone Slash to kill the Entombed Husk. For me, Dream Wielder is best for Radiant bosses; Steady Body for normal ones; Nailmaster's Glory for exploration.
@@MadameRhapsody there is one more tho, spore shroom, if you mix it with defenders crest it becomes good in almost any situation, just spore shroom is also op for colosseum, hornet,and any boss you can heal on really.
It costs one charm notch and can be used to gather a ton of soul during boss staggers. It’s easy to fit into your build and effective, so if you use the dream nail a lot then there’s no reason not to use this
@@juniperrodley9843 There’s 11 notches, Shaman Stone is 3, Soul Catches is 2, Spell Twister is 2. That leaves 3 more, meaning you can fit Dream Wielder and longnail or quick slash depending on when you bought the game

Awesome gameplay! I’ll consider dream wielder for Radianting bosses since I love using spells, this helps in seeing where I can find dream wielder opporunities. On another note, White Defender’s dream nail dialogue is really sad :(

I didn't notice I had it equiped when switching charms for trial of the fool, and usually I spam dream nail at the start of the trial, when no enemies have spawned, kinda like looking down near grimm to bow. That's when I noticed I had dream wielder and man it helped me a lot. I could dream nail red and blue fools, baldurs, follies and garpedes, I wouldn't have won if it weren't for dream wielder. Also fun thing: when I first played, because of the tooltip of dream wielder I thought the increased soul from enemies was from the regular nail and the faster dream nail was just a secondary thing and even more wack, I didn't realize dream nail gave soul, because I didn't even know dream nail could be used on enemies. Because of that, I never unequipped dream wielder until someone pointed out to me what it actually did. You should make a video titled "Descending dark makes the knight will be invincible for 0.4s" where you just abuse the hell out of descending dark (possibly using soul eater, soul catcher shaman stone and spell twister?)
I've always felt like Dreamwielder's description isn't exactly the best. I think if it had the language "gather more SOUL when striking enemies with the Dream Nail" in it it would be a lot more clear but the additional effect of charging it faster kinda muddles the grammar. I don't think it's ever stated anywhere that the Dream Nail even *can* be used to farm SOUL.

I use Dream Wielder to replace soul catcher, awesome OP charm in the coliseum, trial of the fool and POH. (use it with quick slash, strength, shaman stone and nail master's glory)
@@MadameRhapsody my go to for the colloseum was NMG, Shaman Stone, Mark of Pride, Unbreakable strength, and dream wielder. DW was so useful especially in the part where the worms come at you from above. Nowadays though I'd just use long nail instead of NMG and dream wielder so I can be way more aggressive.
I think Dream Wielder is best for the colosseum of fools. Since it's more long and drawn out, healing is a lot more important, and you can keep one enemy alive to dream nail and easily top off your health and soul
My only problem with the trial of the fool though was the inability to heal during the part where the walls are up, but the floor is spikes. No matter how much health I head I ended up getting hit a ton, a lot of it being double hits from falling into the spikes. That one took me a while, and I did get lucky to kill the God Tamer on my first try getting there
I don't knownif you have it, and maybe with the dream wielder it is almost useful combined with the defender's chest charm, but the glowing womb seens pretty useless to me, having the weaver song that don't drain soul and even can catch you some combined with grubsong.

@@MadameRhapsody watcher knight, when they use the basic nail swing dash through and attack from behind, amazing with quick slash. It also works against crystal/enraged guardian, and even oro and mato. Also also, traitor lord and pure vessel are great to use sharp shadow on.

I have the strangest build of all of Hollownest since my main one is: Dashmaster, Sprintmaster, Sharp Shadow, Nailmaster's Glory, Unbreakable Strength, Fury Of The Fallen Turning the average sharp shadow into an overpowered mess if I use it right since I have so much mobility I use it a lot on NKG

I just realized that if the soul master had a dream nail he wouldn't have to cause a genocide in the city of tears since the dream nail allows you to farm soul without directly damaging your enemy.

Lol. My first play through I didn't even realize that the dream nail gave you soul. The funny thing is, I remember I used to use this charm when I had an extra notch because (I think?) I thought it helped increase the strength of my regular nail, though I feel like I remember not being 100%certain what it did(again, probably because I didn't know what the dream nail actually did, besides waking dream bosses.)
shape of unn is op asf at Sisters of Battle/Mantis Lords. Lets u dodge literally everything. Use it with just deep focus (without quick focus) so u get more time as a slug and u can use the extra notches for more dps.

Oh it works for both. I just decided to not show it and instead focus on the fact that if you have Dream Wielder you can get full Soul without doing the pogos.

CrankyTemplar did Sisters of Battle with Spells Only and Dream Wielder played a vital role in that. That fight really made me appreciate the charm and I was surprised how positively the Mantises thought of the Knight.
Tbh, Dream Weilder was essential in my Trial of the Fool run. It allows to keep a reserve of Soul and dish out dmg with spells. Also does some knockback. And all that for 1 notch! Very good charm.
I've heard it said that Grubberfly Elegy is bad, and I can somewhat vouch for that claim; It fires a beam for 50% of your Nail damage, but the fact that it loses its power unless your at max HP usually just makes Mark Of Pride better. Still, if you, say, need to avoid all damage anyway, its range can be appealing, and it's one of the Charms I used when I first Radianted AbsRad.
@@olixx1213 No. I beat every single boss on radiant difficulty, and the few times where I tried using grubberfly, it was a disaster. To me, the biggest issue with this charm is that beam that your nail fires don't give your soul, and I need spells!
lets do some math here, with dream wielder the dream nail lates 0.9 secs to charge (but you cant move instantly when you hit the dreamnail so its about 1.1 secs actually), the pure nail does 21 damage per 0.41 secs so you can do around 3 attacks with the nail while the dreamnail attacks 1 time Alright we already did 63 damage with nail hits and got 33 soul and with the dream wielder we get 66 escence and 0 damage, The spell that makes more damage is abyss shriek with 80 damage in total of all ticks, so if we do perfect abyss shreiks we would do 143 damage without dream wielder and 160 with dream wielder, soooooo dream wielder is officialy better, without any argument Well actually i dont think it, remember that by the time we get the soul with the pure nail we have to do only 1 abyss shriek and with dream wielder we have to do 2, so by the time you use the second abyss shreik you could did some extra nail attacks making more damage with the nail than with the dream wielder, so actually doing using dream wielder WORSE than not using it at all, but theres another thing that makes a huge diference, its not a surprise that making 3 nail attacks is so much easier than doing 1 dream wielder attack, since you cant move, the boss should be static just some steps away from you and you can only use while you're in the ground, also you cant use the dream nail with almost any boss (at least not easily) and you need to take specific moments from the battle to use it, and also doing 2 perfect abyss shrieks is way harder than doing only 1 and 1 nail attack I maybe made some mistakes doing this so if you find something that makes that dream wielder doesn't litteraly make worse your kit just tell me... im tired
also i wanna add something, if you dont get 3 attacks in the time that dreamnail loads because of the 0.1 second (for some reason) still the abyss shreik attack lates around 1 second, so still you can hit the enemy 4 times
If you use the Nail, then Dream Wielder is useless, but if you prefer spells then this charm is better in a lot of situations, such as bosses who are weaker to spells and especially large crowds of enemies. I can clear an entire room of enemies in one Shade Soul whereas using the nail will require each enemy to be hit at least once. A good example being The Collector's ads and I can also hit it when it lands. It's also great in the Colosseum where you can recover between waves. I can hit both Oro and Mato with the same attack without having to come within range of the other and I can restore twice the soul used during one of their attacks. I can get soul from enemies that are immune to the Nail, such as the Watcher Knights when they spawn in and bounce, and also from Uumuu. In the case of Uumuu I can get more damage in during the brief window he is actually open for attacks without having to be close to him and chasing him across the room. Using the Dream Nail on Grimm when he bows will give me two casts of soul, hitting him with the Nail triggers a phase where I can not hit him at all unless I have Soul for spells. Any enemy (minus PV and THK) who staggers are open to Dream Nail and unlike the Nail, they are not unstaggered, this lets me get Soul and Heal during that time. This is golden against the Collector and Hornet 2. Spells are great against bosses that tend to move away from you such as Watcher Knights, Godtamer, White Defender, and Lost Kin (who happens to be really weak to double and even triple hits, that's 120 damage). At the end of the day this is not about math, but about playstyles. Criticizing people's preferred way of playing this game is pointless, it's a game, it's about having fun.
First of all thanks for answering so nicely and with that arguments, its hard to find comments like that here in the internet, i appreciate that and about the last argument, i couldn't agree more with that, im the one who always use hiveblood, im sorry if I offended someone, my intention wasn't criticizing poeple of playing how they want... but still your title tries to lash out at people who think that amulet is useless so i'll continue anyway. for weaker enemies i think you mean things like the watcher knight, oro and mato, the god tammer and some double bosses that you can hit twice the bosses because they're... double, that is true and it can maybe be be usefull, but doing it with abbys shriek is almost impossible, doing with desolate dive meh, its not that hard but you need a bit of rng but doing it with shade soul is actually pretty easy... but it only does 30 damage (60 with both bosses). In case of large crows of enemies, i suppouse you talk about the flukemarm, the collector, and some bosses that spawns enemies but in case you talk about normal enemies, yeah spells are very usefull but im talking about the use they have in bosses or combats like that, the fact that the spells have a great area could make being usefull if you get the entire boss battle with enemies, but because the bosses only make 2 enemies per ''attack'' you can literally just hit dash hit dash and kill al the enemies he spawned in a second, and also gain a little bit of soul. about uumuu and false knight, with false knight you could use the normal dreamnail (without dream wielder), hit him once in the back, use dreamnail and that so you can get full soul without risk and with uumuu, with that boss you cant use the normal dreamnail because you would almost always take a damage before you can use it so yeah, it is usefull for uumuu, but still i think this is like the case of heavy blow. im making it too long so ill go faster about grimm you're right, it can be usefull if you want to start with more soul about stagger i dont remember much bosses that staggers (hornet, the lost kin, the collector, the hive knight and the prince zote, also the soulmaster but it is 90% of the time flying and false knight but he can be stagged forever so it dont matters, tell me if i forgot someone) but if youre not a perfect gammer you almost always would rather to heal than get some soul, but you can still get some soul so yeah. and i really didn't knew that bosses could run away from you but if that makes giving they some hits with the nail so hard i dont want to imagine how hard it would be to give them with the dream nail... sorry if i made you to read all this, anyways i still think you're right with the part of everyone play as they want, that makes some charms more usefull than others for every person, and that's what makes hollow knight so fun and again If I expressed myself very critical or very aggressive, I apologize. (also if i had some ortography mistakes is because i talk spanish and just starting to learn english)
Dream Wielder is one of the best charms. In my most recent playthrough I actually made it a point to get enough geo to buy the lantern and got to Crystal Peaks so that I could get the Dream Nail before I even fought False Knight. Then as soon as I had enough essence I got Dream Wielder and it has not come out of my build since.
@@MadameRhapsody It does take a while, but it's not too bad. Just get all of the geo mounds in the crossroads. Then save as many grubs as possible in the crossroads. If you lure enemies to pogo off of them you should be able to get all of them. Then I just keep going back and fourth from the Crossroads stag station and Dirtmouth benches making certain to kill both Husk Guards each time as they give you about 45 geo each. (At the top far right guarding a grub and in the room before false knight.) Sometimes I would get bored and take different paths, but I always made sure to kill those two Husk Guards every time I made a circuit of the crossroads.
@@MadameRhapsody I actually found that Hornet has interesting dream nail dialog in the first fight. False knight just says stuff like, "This shell belongs to me," and "I'm the strongest." I didn't think to dreamnail Quirrel at the black Egg. The Mace bug doesn't have any dreemnail dialog sadly. Oh but having the dreamnail early makes the Baldur stupid easy! LOL

@@shadowbolthaseo1861 thats kinda wrong. it makes it much easier to dnail enemies making it quite useful even to pretty bad players since they can get dnails in where normally they cant. this is especially true when exploring. its a lot easier to dnail something like those crawling spiders in deepnest (not devouts) and gives you heaps of soul
I'm no expert in this game and I don't use the dream nail very often, but I gotta say that Dream Wielder is a must have for me in the Sixt wave of P5 solely because of Uumuu.
Wow I didn't that charm could do that! BTW is there any use for hiveblood outside of free heart regen when doing the white palace?( Would've died 12 times over without it ) . I find the 36~ish second regen time too long to be useful in an actual boss fight.
It's a 12 seconds regeneration time lol, it's not that bad. I've recently found use for hiveblood, because I was playing a randomizer seed with randomized charm notch costs, and hiveblood happened to only cost 2 notches. I managed to defeat the watcher knights with no nail upgrades and no spells, thanks to it, my 0 charm notch deep focus and my 1 charm notch quick slash(yeah, in some ways this seed was pretty good).

Wayward compass is the best charm. You just combo it with grimmchild and kingsoul, and you win. You just fucking win the game

Glowing Womb basically carried me fighting Hornet in Kingdom’s Edge, it deals really great damage if you just keep your soul up

I just realized that if the soul master had a dream nail he wouldn't have to cause a genocide in the city of tears since the dream nail allows you to farm soul without directly damaging your enemy.

Lol. My first play through I didn't even realize that the dream nail gave you soul. The funny thing is, I remember I used to use this charm when I had an extra notch because (I think?) I thought it helped increase the strength of my regular nail, though I feel like I remember not being 100%certain what it did(again, probably because I didn't know what the dream nail actually did, besides waking dream bosses.)
Dream Wielder is an absolute must for the colloseums. Just wait til the last enemy of the wave, dream nail 3 times and boom. Full soul.

shape of unn is op asf at Sisters of Battle/Mantis Lords. Lets u dodge literally everything. Use it with just deep focus (without quick focus) so u get more time as a slug and u can use the extra notches for more dps.

Tbh, Dream Weilder was essential in my Trial of the Fool run. It allows to keep a reserve of Soul and dish out dmg with spells. Also does some knockback. And all that for 1 notch! Very good charm.

I've heard it said that Grubberfly Elegy is bad, and I can somewhat vouch for that claim; It fires a beam for 50% of your Nail damage, but the fact that it loses its power unless your at max HP usually just makes Mark Of Pride better. Still, if you, say, need to avoid all damage anyway, its range can be appealing, and it's one of the Charms I used when I first Radianted AbsRad.
This charm is op in radiant fight, its a better strenght
@@olixx1213 No. I beat every single boss on radiant difficulty, and the few times where I tried using grubberfly, it was a disaster. To me, the biggest issue with this charm is that beam that your nail fires don't give your soul, and I need spells!

Nah, I don't want to make it easy.
lets do some math here, with dream wielder the dream nail lates 0.9 secs to charge (but you cant move instantly when you hit the dreamnail so its about 1.1 secs actually), the pure nail does 21 damage per 0.41 secs so you can do around 3 attacks with the nail while the dreamnail attacks 1 time
Alright we already did 63 damage with nail hits and got 33 soul and with the dream wielder we get 66 escence and 0 damage, The spell that makes more damage is abyss shriek with 80 damage in total of all ticks, so if we do perfect abyss shreiks we would do 143 damage without dream wielder and 160 with dream wielder, soooooo dream wielder is officialy better, without any argument
Well actually i dont think it, remember that by the time we get the soul with the pure nail we have to do only 1 abyss shriek and with dream wielder we have to do 2, so by the time you use the second abyss shreik you could did some extra nail attacks making more damage with the nail than with the dream wielder, so actually doing using dream wielder WORSE than not using it at all, but theres another thing that makes a huge diference, its not a surprise that making 3 nail attacks is so much easier than doing 1 dream wielder attack, since you cant move, the boss should be static just some steps away from you and you can only use while you're in the ground, also you cant use the dream nail with almost any boss (at least not easily) and you need to take specific moments from the battle to use it, and also doing 2 perfect abyss shrieks is way harder than doing only 1 and 1 nail attack
I maybe made some mistakes doing this so if you find something that makes that dream wielder doesn't litteraly make worse your kit just tell me... im tired
also i wanna add something, if you dont get 3 attacks in the time that dreamnail loads because of the 0.1 second (for some reason) still the abyss shreik attack lates around 1 second, so still you can hit the enemy 4 times
If you use the Nail, then Dream Wielder is useless, but if you prefer spells then this charm is better in a lot of situations, such as bosses who are weaker to spells and especially large crowds of enemies.
I can clear an entire room of enemies in one Shade Soul whereas using the nail will require each enemy to be hit at least once. A good example being The Collector's ads and I can also hit it when it lands. It's also great in the Colosseum where you can recover between waves. I can hit both Oro and Mato with the same attack without having to come within range of the other and I can restore twice the soul used during one of their attacks. I can get soul from enemies that are immune to the Nail, such as the Watcher Knights when they spawn in and bounce, and also from Uumuu. In the case of Uumuu I can get more damage in during the brief window he is actually open for attacks without having to be close to him and chasing him across the room. Using the Dream Nail on Grimm when he bows will give me two casts of soul, hitting him with the Nail triggers a phase where I can not hit him at all unless I have Soul for spells. Any enemy (minus PV and THK) who staggers are open to Dream Nail and unlike the Nail, they are not unstaggered, this lets me get Soul and Heal during that time. This is golden against the Collector and Hornet 2. Spells are great against bosses that tend to move away from you such as Watcher Knights, Godtamer, White Defender, and Lost Kin (who happens to be really weak to double and even triple hits, that's 120 damage).
At the end of the day this is not about math, but about playstyles. Criticizing people's preferred way of playing this game is pointless, it's a game, it's about having fun.
First of all thanks for answering so nicely and with that arguments, its hard to find comments like that here in the internet, i appreciate that and about the last argument, i couldn't agree more with that, im the one who always use hiveblood, im sorry if I offended someone, my intention wasn't criticizing poeple of playing how they want... but still your title tries to lash out at people who think that amulet is useless so i'll continue anyway.
for weaker enemies i think you mean things like the watcher knight, oro and mato, the god tammer and some double bosses that you can hit twice the bosses because they're... double, that is true and it can maybe be be usefull, but doing it with abbys shriek is almost impossible, doing with desolate dive meh, its not that hard but you need a bit of rng but doing it with shade soul is actually pretty easy... but it only does 30 damage (60 with both bosses).
In case of large crows of enemies, i suppouse you talk about the flukemarm, the collector, and some bosses that spawns enemies but in case you talk about normal enemies, yeah spells are very usefull but im talking about the use they have in bosses or combats like that, the fact that the spells have a great area could make being usefull if you get the entire boss battle with enemies, but because the bosses only make 2 enemies per ''attack'' you can literally just hit dash hit dash and kill al the enemies he spawned in a second, and also gain a little bit of soul.
about uumuu and false knight, with false knight you could use the normal dreamnail (without dream wielder), hit him once in the back, use dreamnail and that so you can get full soul without risk and with uumuu, with that boss you cant use the normal dreamnail because you would almost always take a damage before you can use it so yeah, it is usefull for uumuu, but still i think this is like the case of heavy blow.

about stagger i dont remember much bosses that staggers (hornet, the lost kin, the collector, the hive knight and the prince zote, also the soulmaster but it is 90% of the time flying and false knight but he can be stagged forever so it dont matters, tell me if i forgot someone) but if youre not a perfect gammer you almost always would rather to heal than get some soul, but you can still get some soul so yeah.
and i really didn't knew that bosses could run away from you but if that makes giving they some hits with the nail so hard i dont want to imagine how hard it would be to give them with the dream nail...
sorry if i made you to read all this, anyways i still think you're right with the part of everyone play as they want, that makes some charms more usefull than others for every person, and that's what makes hollow knight so fun and again If I expressed myself very critical or very aggressive, I apologize.

Dream Wielder is one of the best charms. In my most recent playthrough I actually made it a point to get enough geo to buy the lantern and got to Crystal Peaks so that I could get the Dream Nail before I even fought False Knight. Then as soon as I had enough essence I got Dream Wielder and it has not come out of my build since.
Dang, mad respect for getting 1800 Geo. You can get Macebug AND Quirrel Dream Nail Dialogue with that. I might do that one day.
@@MadameRhapsody It does take a while, but it's not too bad. Just get all of the geo mounds in the crossroads. Then save as many grubs as possible in the crossroads. If you lure enemies to pogo off of them you should be able to get all of them. Then I just keep going back and fourth from the Crossroads stag station and Dirtmouth benches making certain to kill both Husk Guards each time as they give you about 45 geo each. (At the top far right guarding a grub and in the room before false knight.) Sometimes I would get bored and take different paths, but I always made sure to kill those two Husk Guards every time I made a circuit of the crossroads.
@@MadameRhapsody I actually found that Hornet has interesting dream nail dialog in the first fight. False knight just says stuff like, "This shell belongs to me," and "I'm the strongest." I didn't think to dreamnail Quirrel at the black Egg. The Mace bug doesn't have any dreemnail dialog sadly.
Oh but having the dreamnail early makes the Baldur stupid easy! LOL

@@shadowbolthaseo1861 thats kinda wrong. it makes it much easier to dnail enemies making it quite useful even to pretty bad players since they can get dnails in where normally they cant. this is especially true when exploring. its a lot easier to dnail something like those crawling spiders in deepnest (not devouts) and gives you heaps of soul

Wow I didn't that charm could do that! BTW is there any use for hiveblood outside of free heart regen when doing the white palace?( Would've died 12 times over without it ) . I find the 36~ish second regen time too long to be useful in an actual boss fight.
It's a 12 seconds regeneration time lol, it's not that bad. I've recently found use for hiveblood, because I was playing a randomizer seed with randomized charm notch costs, and hiveblood happened to only cost 2 notches. I managed to defeat the watcher knights with no nail upgrades and no spells, thanks to it, my 0 charm notch deep focus and my 1 charm notch quick slash(yeah, in some ways this seed was pretty good).
