      I think HTME's saw is too thick & they didn't bend the teeth as well as this one.
      However they're trying to make it so it fits in a machine, rather than a handheld saw like this one.
      HTME also kinda cheats, in that they have the rule that if they've made it once (e.g. a bar of iron/steel, or natural fibre rope) then they *don't have to* make it again by hand & can get it by other means. Be that straight up buying something of similar quality, or maybe getting some made by someone who knows what they're doing.
      Now, I'm not going to say with absolute 100% certainty that our Primitive Skills guy here doesn't buy some iron ore/scrap & then forge it into the bars he uses, but he definitely stays truer to the primitive lifestyle than HTME does.
      Then again HTME is meant to be going through the technologies of our ancestors to get to the equivalent of at least the steam/industrial age. One of their goals is to make a steam engine after all. So it's not like we can properly compare the two channels.
      Edit: Sorry for the paragraphs, I just needed to write down what was in my mind.

    • @hibahprice6887
      @hibahprice6887 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      To do this, the blade must be hardened at least a little, otherwise the sharpened sharp teeth will quickly bend and become dull .. hardening at least to 35 HRC will solve all problems .. and the file is not difficult to make, only sharpen the chisel sharper, and forge a square bar .. make an angle risks and then the most important thing is to carry out cementation. In an earthenware vessel, hermetically sealed, without access to oxygen, place a raw file inside and fill it with coal, then this vessel must be heated until red and held for about half an hour so that the cementation penetrates by 1/3, and then you can harden it .. if something is done not so the teeth will simply fly off during operation (

      @@jackturner3803 I don’t even think he produced one billet on his own. That video was obviously edited. He put out the effort though and a person could eventually form a billet the way he showed. It just seemed really fake to me and of course edited. He received quite a bit of backlash because of it.
      Cant blame him for not trying though. He puts a ton of effort into these videos. Gotta give him credit, this video came out better than I thought it would even with the bought steel and coal.

    I know a lot of people have probably said it before, in this very comment section even, but I really like that you're making actual advancements that, to me at least, seem practical for the resources and skills you have, and reasonable in the thought process used to get to them. If stone tools don't work, get bronze, or iron, as you did. If the knife or axe you made aren't working as well as you'd like, make a saw. or a chisel set or hand plane.

    Hey! Your videos are always awesome. I am always amazed at how talented you are everything you do and make. I know you use rocks to sharpen your tools, which work very well, but it might be helpful (especially on the teeth of this saw) to have a file for sharpening. If you're interested, check out Clickspring's video on making files the ancient way th-cam.com/video/SOw9WqMOHjA/w-d-xo.html. I think it might make a pretty neat video since you're not only making a file, but also experimenting with making case-hardened steel which could be applied in other places. Anyway, I always look forward to your original videos. Keep it up!

    • @xkblxcripple
      @xkblxcripple 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The chisel method makes sence here if he fliped the blade over when making every second tooth to give every second tooth a sharp side edge for pushing and every other tooth for pulling. Coating the tang of the saw in clay and and coating the blade in charcoal and wrapping in clay so its air tight and heating it to a white glow could have impregnated the blade with carbon while the tang remains less stressed.

    To make the saw blade work for you , you should bend every other saw tooth to the outside just a small amount that way when you saw it throws out the saw dust from each tooth before the next one cuts into the wood , making it easier to cut the wood & always cut using the full length of the blade . It will make it easier & with less effort so you don’t work so hard . Ok I didn’t watch the end of the video .
