    One of the most relevant discussions ever.....all this is the basis for at the very least, staying sane day to day, and better yet being happy and content and grateful within one's own skin in the PRESENT moment. This conversation was a lot more spiritual than most will realize, maybe even including Thomas and Brian themselves. Most excellent gentlemen!!

    I have been using Buteyko nasal breathing as my default habit for many years. My usual rate at rest is 4-5 breaths a minute. I am the calmest person I know.

      Interesting. How do you perform the Buteyko Breathwork?

    First half all I could think was Wim Hof Breathing Technique…EVERYONE do the Wim Hof Breathing Technique….you’ll be AMAZED when you go from holding your breath 60-90 seconds to holding it 5+ minutes literally in a few days.
    The other standout was falling in love with the process vs just keeping your eye on the prize. The most successful people in health, wealth, relationships, and EVERYTHING learn to embrace the process and celebrate the tiny wins each day along the way.

    Interesting conversation. he is right that CO2 drives respiration but at low oxygen levels oxygen does too. Curious as to why the bicarbonate buffering system of our blood did not come up? When CO2 builds up carbonic acid is produced in solution and blood PH goes down. The bicarbonate buffers this Ph range and I suspect people who cannot produce enough bicarbonate or reabsorb it in the kidneys have little CO2 tolerance and get short of breath easier. In the past I have taken baking soda and noticed immediate improvement in my breathing especially as an asthmatic I can attest to this. The kidneys produce bicarbonate buffer and no doubt there is a genetic component to kidney function and levels of bicarbonate buffer. Interestingly enough I think it may be linked to ketogenic and ketoacidosis states in diabetic individuals. I suspect high blood sugars reduce the kidneys ability to make or resorb bicarbonate and buffer the blood CO2 and Ph because a less carbonic acid concentration with less buffer causes a greater change in Ph. The greater the change in blood Ph the less well ALL our Proteins like hemoglobin work properly to transport and deliver oxygen. This is why if I get occasional heart burn I turn to baking soda over calcium carbonate tabs. Dr. don't like to recommend sodium bicarbonate because the general population already have hyper tension and eat too much sodium. if your diet is normal sodium and your kidneys function well I recommend sodium bicarb aka baking soda for a breath of fresh air and improved respiratory function. I actually like to take it as one of my zero sugar electrolyte mixes I make. salt is dirt cheap stop paying gold money for it. I do one with Sodium bicarb and one with sea salt the other two ingredients are Potassium chloride and Magnesium glycinate.

    Weirdly, back when I used to bike commute I would barely breathe when I was sitting around other people and I felt self conscious about it. I made myself breathe more often instead of a few large breaths.

      From what I understood if you are only moderately exercising then exhale through the nose, but when in higher rate of stress then exhale through mouth. I could be wrong but that's what I got out of the answer

      Good question…Wonder how it compares to cardio exercise,like if sauna counts as exercise even tho not moving bc it stresses body & balloon filling does too, could it also be considered exercise & thus healthy?

    • @TransformNatch4U
      @TransformNatch4U 23 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      I blow up balloons every day to increase my vital air capacity, the amount of air you can expel from your lungs after taking a deep breath. An adult should have a vital capacity between 3 and 5 litres, (depending on age, sex, height, and weight) and is an important element of lung function. As a lifelong asthmatic I need to have the best lung capacity and function possible.

      @@ThomasDeLauerOfficial You deleted my comment? I wasnt talking about the breathing. But since you brought it up, you went all over the place and now I have no idea what to do with breathing.
      If breathing is so simple, why are there so many mouth breathers?
