This is super cool. I just started studying cyber security, and I have been messing around with NIXOS. Been wanting to lean into turning it into a tool for me to use in cyber sec, as opposed to just another daily driver distro to replace windows. Being exposed to how you're using it like this is super cool and insightful.
Hey! Yeah turns out there’s some great cyber applications for nix. Nix let’s you use gdb, gef, and pwndbg all as separate programs while on most other distros you basically gotta pick one. You can use packages temporarily, so u can run that random python2 exploit you need. If you want to do binary exploitation, grab the fhs.nix I made from the shells directory on my repo. It emulates FHS on nix so you run dynamically linked binaries. I’ll prolly end up making a vid on nix for hacking cuz there is some sick functionality I’ve pulled together!
@@CosmodiumCS You should do an entire series on Nix. I can barely find any answers to the builds I want to do. I tried setting up hyprland in a virtualbox VM using the minimal Nix install, but I couldn't get past the keybinds breaking. There's so little documentation on HOW to actually use Nix, that any video you make on it that is easy to digest is going to be valuable. Be it explaining flakes or home manager in a simple manner.
It’s great, way better than I had anticipated! I’ll likely make a video on this to go in more depth, I have a nix shell to emulate fhs (in the dots) so i can do binex. It’s cool how you can use gdb, gef, and pwndbg as separate programs in nix. Nix shells are great for different areas of development i do and i don’t have to worry about conflicting packages. And i have all the hacking tools i’d generally need!
What obsidian theme allows transparency? I use i3 gaps also with polybar. I dont have dedicated workspaces but i do have two monitors and i anchor 0,1,9 to the left monitor, and this is where all utilitiy tools usually get openened up
I can probably make a css snippet I guess and p;ay around with it i was just hoping there is a theme with a button. why isnt there a button lol kepanoooo
What a nice i3 window manager configuration in NixOS, Nix is pretty good at reproducibility, rollbacks, and isolation, but i don't like the lack of FHS compliance, or systemd dependency.
@CosmodiumCS kali has yo stay the way it is...away from the other distro that keep spinning out of control nonstop adding styles...features and what not....but i agree with you linux is a choice...make it your own...btw i had troubles with hyprland b4 specially opening some apps thats mainly why i steer away from it.

@@johndoe1274IMHO, hyprland is currently broken on everything, especially in VMs. I'd use sway or i3wm in the meantime.
@ but.. it looks cool :’(
@@johndoe1274 that I cannot argue with :)
I'm also using NixOS as my daily driver, and I'm curious to hear about your experience using it as a cybersecurity lab - what are your thoughts on it?

Cool, would be cool to do a video how to use nixos on new/old hardware that is secure from the ground up.

Yo! I’m using picom for transparency and the theme is Mado Miniflow with the css customized. Sweet workflow btw 🤙🏽
@@CosmodiumCS Of course picom. All my shit be transparent af now, awesome
Great Video Bro !!
Wow, you got Konsh working? Let alone in Nix?!
LMFAO! There’s nothing a little blood, sweat, tears, and duct tape can’t fix

I understand that entirely. If you check my dots, i made a nix a shell that emulates fhs if you need it🤙🏽
@@CosmodiumCS thank you for putting your config as open source, sir!
Nice to see i3 getting used. I still can't bring myself to use Wayland/Sway when my i3 install is pretty much perfect.
I made the move from i3 to hyprland and haven't regretted it yet
Yea i3 is great! I tried wayland for a bit but did ultimately go back to i3 (as you can see, ha!)
At 5:10, the quote in Obsidian is from Carl Sagan, kind of an astronomer version of Bill Nye before Bill Nye, in a show called Cosmos.
Thank you, Zhwazi! I never thought to look into it. It’s cool to hear the show was named after me😉
Nice set up
Much appreciated!
What is the firefox wallpaper called, I cant find it anywhere lol
Ha, no worries! It’s in the assets directory in the dots🫡
no sway?
Tried it for about 2 months, wasn’t a fan ha!
Bro I am familiar to kali but I can't switch 😢 I use kali as a main os
You’ll never know unless you try! 😏
@CosmodiumCS I have tried ones and also arch linux but my hands are better on kali
very nice video
Nixos is cool but very outdated and very enclosed....kali linux is Not for any ricing whatsoever...is not meant for that ....
We’re hackers, our whole thing is using systems in way that they weren’t intended. But you are entitled to your opinion 🙂

Not gonna use NixOS thanks to their developer purge
I'm out of the loop. What happened?
