  • Maddens Forge was a hub for the community of Athenry for over a hundred years. Now in the care of the Athenry Heritage Centre, Eamon Madden the nephew of the last blacksmith of Athenry talks about his memories of the forge, his uncle and the people who used his services. The forge remains the same as the day its doors were closed over twenty years ago and is part of the Athenry Heritage Trail.

    Wow --He sure looks like the Carrarea Madden's from Fohanagh Parish. Clonfert Diocese , County Galway, their DNA related to Peter Madden --who lived in Ballinasloe --but was born near Athenry.
