Great job on this rack, way to match the angle and lines of the cab! I want to build a similar rack for my Gladiator with Uni Strut too, and this video will help greatly in that build.
AWESOME! Thank you for watching! If you have not started yet look at extruded aluminum also. in bulk on the internet the cost is not too too bad. It is also much more versatile in mounting hardware and attaching accesories later than the uni I used. Also ships powder coat black already :)
You are my hero, I wanted to make a strut channel rack. But the rack to bed brackets I want to be 3/16" but no way to bend. I guess I need to find a local shop like you did! Love your design! and how sturdy it looks with all your bracing. SOLID!
Excellent work! I want to build a kayak rack for my Tundra equipped with a Gator FX tonneau cover and your video is the best inspiration I have found so far without using 2x4 lumber or having to weld steel or aluminum. Online products that work with a tonneau cover are ridiculously expensive. I will probably attach the 4 UNI Strut legs into the 4 original cavities in the tundra bed body (the ones covered with plastic pop-out caps). Cheers Phil
Thanks! I tested it out on a track the other day. Worked great, but I need more lights! And it would help if the kayak was a little higher above the truck.
Man! This looks awesome and I appreciate your thorough insights on your choices because I am pretty certain I am going to copy this almost entirely but for a Chevy pickup bed.
My brothers friends shop, but I don't know the name. A lot of people told me that the bolt method would fail and I should weld it. I have gone 1 years with HUNDREDS of miles on my design. 30MPH cross wind on Oregon Inlet bridge and even had a bird strike at 75MPH. Still standing.

Nice work. Thanks for the inspiration.
My pleasure! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
How much did this cost to make? A materials list would be amazing too!!
Now let's hurry up and do my trailer
Did we solve the problem of WHERE to do your trailer? Remember, that is the only delay here.
So you mind sharing measurements, I was thinking of the same build
what machine shop did that work? amazing!

@@WAEofFishing Oregon inlet gets some serious gusts! Thanks again for the video
To the saw horse and pounded it. Lol
Hey now! LMBO!!!
sweet deal brotha im looking to do the same thing but what did you use to bolt to the track ?
Thanks! The track was already on. You can get T nuts pretty easy anywhere. I think it used a 3/8 bolt. amzn.to/44Tc7nc
What did you use to mount your paddles to the strut?
Fist grips. Intended for axes and things on overland rigs
Metal shop that doesn't know what Unistrut is should be out of business IMMEDIATELY
Sedimentary layers of saw dust lol 💀
How the hell did a metal shop not know what unistrut is?!
LMBO!!! Do you know how hard it was to NOT blurt that out in there face!!!! Just like BPShops when you hire a body.
