This version was great, but "One Day More" from the 10th Anniversary Concert is one of the greatest live performances of any song I've ever heard in my life.
No Nick Jonas ' s voice does not and is not very strong. I totally agree he wasn't right person to play Marius.
@@M.L.7The Welsh of the West End did a version online during the pandemic that rivals the 10th anniversary version. Both are spectacular. This one, not so much, because of Nick.
He is not that good. I dont know what the director was thinking. Micheal Ball is better, but needs to work on not biting down.
@@gregoryharris7766 Most of the time when they bring in celebs that don't have strong voices it's for the publicity and attention that their name brings to the project. I'm not sure why they bothered doing that for the anniversary though. I don't think it needed it.
The fact that Jenny Galloway is the 10th and 25th 'dream cast' for Madame Thénardier speaks volumes about how much she fucking nails it.

Of course. Same reason the cinematic version stars Wolverine. I get that he's a good singer (by Hollywood standards) but they turned away Alfie Boe for that role.

Samatha is just so fantastic, she’s been my favourite Eponine ever since seeing her in the movie!
She carried that movie on her back. She was easily the best part of the movie. Eddie Redmayne also did a great job for what it’s worth. Especially for someone with no prior singing experience.
Lea Solanga is a far better Eponine but Samantha did a great job as well.

nick jonas isn't a bad singer by any means but he isn't a theatrical/operatic vocalist. he gets completely eclipsed by everyone else to an almost embarrassing extent
I remember looking at this performance on TV, and thinking (not knowing the cast, Nick Jonas included) that the Marius was sub-par.
Yeah, you can hear him straining his voice to try and make it work. And I have zero training in music/vocals what so ever.

My friend has worked with him for years as musical director for his concerts and I've met him several times. He is truly one of the warmest, sweetest people you could ever meet and the first time he spoke to me in person I almost fainted...🤣

This has always been my favourite song in the entire show. I just adore how all of the harmonies gradually come together to create a whopper of a tune!

The ending polyphony and the harmony of the last 3 words kill me every time. I relisten to it like 10 times just so in awe of how beautiful it sounds. It makes me sort of irrationally upset that something so beautiful can exist and that a person could make it when the world can be so horrible at the same time.

In my opinion Nick is a good Singer but not for Musical, His voice is too soft
If he had some training he could be better even for a pop singer. He’s so nasal. You can actually see him tense his nostrils to stifle the notes.

Saw Les Mis in Belfast last week on the Arena Tour. Stunning evening all round, but One Day More was utterly sensational. My goosebumps had goosebumps! What a song.
Even though Phantom is easily his magnum opus, Ramin Karimloo feels like he was born to play Enjolras, if that makes sense.
He's definitely a perfect Enjolras- and a perfect Phantom! Though I would personally argue that Jean Valjean is his magnum opus. He always puts everything he has into a performance, but still the amount of heart he throws into that role is stunning.
I adore Ramin as Phantom but his Enjolras owns my heart
Karimloo was the best f all Enjolras players.

Other comments have already pointed this out: Nick Jonas is not a bad singer, but he is definitely not one built for theatre or for this musical. He sounds whiny and forced. And putting him aside Alfie Boe, Ramin Karimloo, among others, is just insane casting decision. Especially when fucking Hadley Fraser is *right there* and somehow was not cast as Marius.
Edit 1: Nick Jonas's voice definitely benefits from a bit of post-production tweak. If you watch the version recorded from the audience (also here on YT), Jonas voice is completely and utterly buried when sung together with Ramin Karimloo and Alfie Boe.

Best Eponine honestly, I know a lot of people prefer Lea but Samantha just has a charm to her that I’m just so in love with. She has my heart!

Can't believe it was the 25 year anniversary in 2010 - and now it's 2024 and it's still going strong. We are going to see it in London in early September to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary - 10th time we've seen it.

Plot Twist - Enjolras survives the shooting but his face is heavily wounded, and he crawls to the Catacombs, eventually ending up under the Palais Garnier

And Grantaire somehow becomes rich but Enjolras, vengeful about what happened goes real mad especially when a love triangle forms with a singer/dancer
Each to his own, but through the literally thousands of musicals created over the century, Les Miz is the greatest. Theire aren't many absolutes in the world, this is one.
Wonderful. This has been and always will be my favorite musical. I went with my mother when I was small to a local production of Les Mis and was breathless. I became obsessed, I then remember my first time watching the 25th anniversary so years ago and I was gripped. I only wish it were easier to view it in its entirety again. Copy rights and strikes aside. If only it were on one streaming service.

This would’ve been a perfect cast if it wasn’t for Nick Jonas. He’s not a bad singer but definitely wasn’t right for this role.

My favorite song from Les Miz. I wish they could somehow combine the 10th and 25th anniversary casts with Michael Ball, Judy Kuhn, Lea Salonga, Ruthie Henshall, and Philip Quast from the 10th, and Ramin Karimloo and Alfie Boe from the 25th.

I just went to see Les Mis and loved it. Goal is to see Ramin perform in real life one day. Why is Nick Jonas there? Did he get lost and wandered on the wrong stage?
They really did that. It's was like WOW! the sound and timing was perfection.
This still affects me the same way it did back in the late 80's when it first came to Broadway. Was on a trip to New York and all I can say is I cried and got goosebumps then and I still do all these years later. ❤
I recently retired as a deputy sheriff. One of my interest was to go to the Wharton center in East Lansing to watch Moore Broadway I have seen wicked which I love, Six which was OK, but I’m going to see this in October. I have gone to these place myself, my friends looking forward to this wonderful things about it.

Nick isn't a bad singer. His pop style is just out-of-place in musical theater, especially among the heavyweights on that stage. Alfie also stands out with a somewhat different style, though opera meshes better than pop.

Nick Jonas is talented. But not theatre talented. It's a different beast. When Enjolras came in, Ramin ate him alive in one note. His voice gets lost in the mix. Again. He's a great singer. A great pop singer. He doesn't have the force or protection needed. Because he doesn't need it. The reedy voice is perfect for pop. In theatre? You'll get lost and forgotten in the wall of sound.

new age musical, yes they will come with new beats and slick tunes. But this. This should always be regarded with a high form of respect always. There's something operatic yet modern. A bridge towards every musical these days.
This and At the End of the Day have been in my head all week. I can't get over how beautiful all the overlapping themes and rhythms are. I haven't actually watched this particular performance yet though I've been listening to it on Spotify. I need to get on that!

Stunt casting to get viewership
I don't doubt that in some capacity Nick Jonas is talented. But putting him on the O2 Arena stage surrounded by actual West End and Broadway alumni is like covering somebody in meat and shoving them in a lions cage. The poor boy was going to be eaten alive.
Jonas had lots of stage experience. Why do you think Cameron McIntosh hired him for 25th Anniversary special?

Nick Jonas was 17. He did an incredible job all things considered, but he was also surrounded by Ramin Karimloo who is one of the most talented Broadway vocalists ever (imo)
Samantha and Karie were around if not the same age not to mention Gavroch (who I can remember the name of) his age had nothing to do with it this just isn’t his venue
