The major difference this year is he has embraced a shoot first mentality. Earlier in his career he was trying to be too perfect with passes when the Devils needed him to be a goal scorer. He is still dishing out some assists but his shot total has went way up. The sky is the limit for Hughes. It's fun watching the video and seeing all the different ways he is scoring. One timers, slap shots, wrist shots, rebounds, bank shots, deflections, backhands. He is silky smooth hitting the five hole. "Lets Go Devils"
And he's 21! Anything is possible!

As a Sabres fan I believe the Sabres have a bright future, but I can see NJ winning a lot of cups. Add Nemec and Luke Hughes to an already stacked NJ team, and pity the rest of the NHL.

@@thewolfdoctor761 Eh as a devils fan I look at it like this Jack, Hischier, Mercer, Bratt vs Thompson Dahlin Power Cozens probably a wash long term it really comes down to how guys like Luke Hughes Nemec Holtz Muk Gritsyuk Stillman Foote vs Savoie Ostlund Rosen Kulich Quinn Krebs Peterka which maybe favors the devils due to the potential star power but the depth maybe favors the sabres there its just so hard to predict teams with this many good young assets

The Ottawa Senators also have a good young core with Stützle, Tkachuk, Batherson, Debrincat, Norris, Pinto, Sanderson, and Chabot.

His wrist shot came out of nowhere, and it's what makes him so lethal now. He can pass as well as anyone, but he also possesses a wicket release. It really makes him that much more of a threat.

Hughes has more points in his career than Kakko and Lafreniere combined.
Its crazy how the devils were able to get a deal done on the cheap. Now their reaping the rewards. The way contracts are being handed out now a days, i cant imagine what he would of got on the open market..
He was in busy territory at the time! He got 8 mill solid which is epic when he didn’t prove himself yet

I remember Flyers fans laughed that we took Zacha and not Provorov. I mean Zacha’s not a top top player but Provorov has always been average at best and I wouldn’t want him anywhere near our current roster.
