This was the last ep before the anime went for a hiatus. That's why it feels like the finale of the arc. Seeing Levy in the end surprisingly made me tear up a little even after all these years. Now we say goodbye to the old art style and enter FT 2014
As someone who read the manga first, I do prefer the art style of 2014+, since it sticks closer to the source. I'm also a big fan of reserving magic circles for only the really strong spells, rather than splashing them in every single thing... except when they don't (like Happy's wings that sometimes come out with and sometimes without a magic circle in the Satelight run). I just think that putting a magic circle on even the most minor of spells just diminishes their impact. Though I still hold a grudge toward the new studio for that Dolphin guy *grrrr*
people love to call this fight plot armor, but the real truth is sting and rogue just weren’t ever very strong to begin with. they just were always hyped up, and since they didn’t have any more dragon slayers to compete with, they were seen as the strongest.
The problem with this fight is it would've been perfect if they just got rid of the stupid speech mavis did about the power of frienship making him stronger. I fnot for that then it would've just been natsu being stronger than them and no one would've complained about the power of friendship thing... But of course mashima had to add that speech lol .... Also i think there was to much alternates between who's stronger like it was natsu and gadjeel then they got bodied then it was them being stronger again like... He should've made the fight a bit more homogene i feel like
There's also Natsu's second origin that a lot of people like to forget about and just the fact that his strength is dependent on his feelings. As he was fighting for his friends (side note- people like to bag on ft for power of friendship) who were Sting and Rogue fighting for. To prove who's the strongest. Even when they had 7 years to catch up it didn't matter. I could speel on ans on but you get it.

Seeing Natsu dominate both Sting and Rogue after he sent Gajeel rolling down that mine shaft is one of the best highlights of the series, in my opinion for all Sting's bragging and boasting he never really stood a chance even with Dragon force activated
This was a great fight. Absolutely love the 👆🏽. And that one point coming back to bite Sabertooth was satisfying. Can’t wait to see what I think of the new animation.
Fun fact: In other translations, Levy said to Lucy in her letter; "They died, even though we loved them" instead of "That person died, and that one too, even though I loved..."🙃😭
To us who grown up watching FT that episode is very emotional. I don't had read the mangá at that time, so I waited so long to discovered what happened hahaha The Levy speach on the final make me tear up, and thinking about it now, she said "that person died" and she's not liying. The second part of this arc is unbeliavable, is crazy, Ultear has the BEST charachter developement. And I can't even discribe how Erza vs Kagura vs Minerva is AMAZING. One of the bests fights of this second part from anime. Thank you for your reaction guys, I've been here since episode one, look how far we've came

This episode was aired in March 2013 and the next episode came one year later in April 2014! Imagine waiting 1 year after this cliffhanger.. Luckily I started watching FT in 2016. So never had to wait. 😁😁
The major different between the Dragon Slayers generation is not that they been taught by actual dragons or got implant with a lacrima ! The main different lied on their body !! First gen Dragon Slayers can not activate Dragon Force on their will because their body must be on the perfect condition to hold it power, while 3rd gen Dragon Slayer can activate it on their will because they just ignore the fact that their body can't hold the power !! That's lead to the result that 1st gen's Dragon Force seem weak in destructive power, but in contrast, their attack hold more force, deal more damage ! 3rd gen's Dragon Force unleash more power, meaning their spell were much more destructive, BUT that's also mean they consume more mana, and will soon got tired !! While 1st gen's Dragon Force last longer because their mana were not for unleash spells, but for strengthen their body to withstand the power of the technique ! 3rd gen's Dragon Force consume tons of mana just for some fancy spells that not sure could do any damage to actual Dragons or other 1st gen Dragon Slayers. They just good at destroying things around ! All that informations bring up a fact ! That's true Dragon Slayers or the 1st generation Dragon Slayers are using their ability to mimic the power of a real Dragon. They literally a "Dragon in human form" when they are manage to activate Dragon Force !! While 3rd (and 2nd) generation Dragon Slayers are just "human wizards who trying to be strong as a Dragon", they not a true Dragon Slayers, and their ability though strong, but not enough to deal with real Dragons like the true Dragon Slayers !! This theory are come with a fact that only 1st generation Dragon Slayers could actually kill a Dragon in a fair fight ! The 3rd gens will just tickling them with their fancy spells !

A premonition of the end. A lot of people seem to miss what that Levy scene really means, be it because of disbelief or memory (Specially those who watched this and had to wait a year), but it's such an incredible moment and it's so impactful on both the first watch when it surprises you, as well as on a rewatch when you have the context and actually know what happened.

My deepest respects to the architect who designed the arena and the people who built it. They broke through the floor and several levels down and blasted a big hole into the side, but did it crumble? No. Not a single audience seat fell down, you can't even see any cracks running through the construction up there. That's really great construction! Hmmm... the twin dragons weren't bad guys? Are you sure? They proudly professed time and again that they killed their adoptive fathers with their own hands and then either cut off or ripped out a piece of thir corpses to implant it into themselves. Not to mention how much of a kick Sting got out of Lucy being tortured (though Rogue turned away and closed his eyes, bless his heart). By the way did you notice how Natsu only used fire? He didn't even need to pull out lightning flame dragon mode to win, meaning the stomped them without going all out. "It's giving me chills" I'm pretty sure that's exactly what it's supposed to do. :P I am of two minds with Levy's narration. In the anime it felt unsettling to me that someone other than the dedicated narrator or Lucy was narrating from the very start of the arc. And if you pay attention you notice it's Levy's voice, so the big surprise that it is her is somewhat diminished, only extending to her being scarred and bandaged and about what she's saying. In the manga on the other hand you just see the text and don't know that it's not Lucy doing the narration like usual and then *bam* "IT WASN'T LUCY, IT WAS LEVY!", adding a bigger shock moment than the anime did. Both work in their own ways and even if it didn't, I can't really see how else they could have done it in the anime anyway without resorting to cheating by having Lucy narrate the initial bits until the Levy reveal comes this episode (which would suck).
Now imagine being an anime only viewer, having these 3 cliffhangers being setup only to have it go on hiatus for TWO YEARS because it did so well that it caught up too close to the source material at the time. It was one hell of a painful part to leave off on and one more episode would have been a much better part to leave off on. The only thing leaving this off on here did for a positive was encourage a good discussion about the show and the potentials of each cliffhanger and what they meant.
Next episode will be having some changes because they changed animation studio on that point. So magic circle will be no longer there in the next episodes of Fairy Tail and the artstyle are more closer now to the manga source.

GMG is the best tournament arc and I will die on that hill. I do prefer the manga more tho as the animation kinda suffers the more we get closer to the end of the arc.
That fight made no sense though. 1. In the first part of the fight after Sting activated Dragon Force, it was 2 vs 1 and they got bodied. 2. For some reason, afterwards Natsu beat both Dragon Slayers in Dragon Force mode without being in Dragon Force mode or even in Thunder Flame mode. The most explanation is that he has Second Origin, and that somehow made him more powerful? Even though its been established that Second Origin doesn't necessarily make you more powerful, but just gives you more ethernano (this world's version of mana) Even if you said Natsu got used to their attacks, it still makes no sense how he able to outpower full Dragon Force mode with his normal magic. 3. He basically stood there doing ABSOLUTELY nothing for 5 minutes straight and then defeated a Unison Raid of two Dragon Slayers charging up their ultimate attack. It would have made more sense if he was charging up his mana or something, but nope. He just stood there and just threw his ultimate attack at the last possible second. 4. I love this fight, but how he became so powerful with ABSOLUTELY no reason mades ZERO logical sense and brought this fight down a few pegs. That's what made this arc one of my least favourite in Fairy Tail.

The Grand magic game can be broken into 2 arcs ... when fairytail rose up the ranks and the Elipise arc... this episode transitiona the two.

natsu one of those fighters, you don't wanna have a prolonged brawl with, you gotta take him down quick and hard. Otherwise, he's what happened here, you think you cooking, but you're getting cooked.

GMG is the best tournament arc and I will die on that hill. I do prefer the manga more tho as the animation kinda suffers the more we get closer to the end of the arc.

That fight made no sense though.
1. In the first part of the fight after Sting activated Dragon Force, it was 2 vs 1 and they got bodied.
2. For some reason, afterwards Natsu beat both Dragon Slayers in Dragon Force mode without being in Dragon Force mode or even in Thunder Flame mode. The most explanation is that he has Second Origin, and that somehow made him more powerful? Even though its been established that Second Origin doesn't necessarily make you more powerful, but just gives you more ethernano (this world's version of mana)
Even if you said Natsu got used to their attacks, it still makes no sense how he able to outpower full Dragon Force mode with his normal magic.
3. He basically stood there doing ABSOLUTELY nothing for 5 minutes straight and then defeated a Unison Raid of two Dragon Slayers charging up their ultimate attack. It would have made more sense if he was charging up his mana or something, but nope. He just stood there and just threw his ultimate attack at the last possible second.
4. I love this fight, but how he became so powerful with ABSOLUTELY no reason mades ZERO logical sense and brought this fight down a few pegs.
That's what made this arc one of my least favourite in Fairy Tail.

Ah how easy it is for new uneducated fans. That is the point at which the Anime caught up to the manga and was therefore put on hiatus for quite a bit of time, not as long as bleach but still and when it came back they called it season 2.
