What should you tell your pitcher when he's not pitching well? [Office Hours w Coach Madden Ep.109]

In this episode we talk about mound visits and what to tell your pitcher if he is not pitching well, throwing balls, or giving up base hits. Today's question comes from Coach Pete and it's a great question. The answer is that we as coaches have to know each of our pitchers. So there is not just one thing we can say to all our pitchers. Instead, we need to know what type of pitcher they are and how we can get that particular pitcher back in the zone and dealing again as quick as possible. So in one example, a pitcher might need to be told a joke to calm him down and ground him. While another pitcher might need to be shaken up a bit to get him in the zone in the first place.
