    Important thing to note, these guys keep their hands relatively high up. A lot of people who don't spar in WC drop their hands too low or stick them out too far and end up eating a fist sandwich.

      That’s funny - I noticed the exact opposite at the end of the video. He went for that big heel kick and dropped his arms for balance. In a TKD match the defender typically sidesteps the kick and swings for the head….and he left his head wiiiiide open.

    The effortless movements makes Wing Chun look and sound like a soft martial arts. What really impressed me was how the practitioners were able to keep a very good balance while landing high kicks in close quarters. Another thing I found really enjoyable was how flexible the martial arts was. Many martial arts do not take into account every possible scenario in a fight but teach general moves to use against predetermined moves. One example of this was at 2:15 in which the red helmet practitioner was able to catch the opponent. He did not hesitate confused but instead quickly went into action and landed a fast and decisive blow to the head. Both practitioners seem to be experienced as neither falls for the feints that were common throughout the spar but keep track of the overall situation while keeping the fight in close quarters. Great material here, and I really enjoyed the video. Don't take my words too seriously as I am just an observer that has little to no experience in fighting, let alone professional fighting.

    The guy in red had some great footwork, a lot of side stepping and circling to create space and then re-emerge to the centreline, which gave him some different options. Guy in blue looked very rooted and more what I'd expect with weight distribution mostly on his back leg, but looks like his left side is his strongest as he didn't switch it up once. You’re a boxer so it’s illegal for you to turn around so you’ve never even thought of doing it. 1:44 Sometimes it is more natural to do so then turning the other way that wouldn’t expose your back. Red helmet struck diagonally and ended with his back already facing blue helmet who had both of his hands ready to do whatever he wanted when Red turned clockwise, so red turned the other way unfortunately exposing his back, but if it was a real fight he would return to a neutral position if he did it quick enough.

      Great observation. I would say that would be accurate. Wing Chun fits in multiple classifications of a style of Silat, Kung Fu, or Bareknuckle Boxing. Silat is simply a generalized term for Southeast Asian derived martial arts such as Indonesian (Penchak Silat) and Filipino Martial Arts (Arnis), but can also include various styles of Okinawan Kobudo with a heavy Malay influence, and SE Asian Seafaring Chinese Pirate styles (Kuntao Silat & Wing Chun). Chinese travelling monks have made an influence on and also borrowed from Thai martial arts, especially Muay Chaiya.

      Wing Chun is very rich for techniques, but it doesn’t mean that one should use them all in every single sparring. In fact, one can only use a kick and a punch, if it’s enough to win. And often it’s a more realistic way to apply Wing Chun.

    Well, I have been doing Kick Boxing, Boxing and Muay Thai for many years and I have never actually seen a Wing Chun sparring.
    I don't like the use of high leg kicks,as it is used a lot here, since legs can be easily caught and then you are wide open for anything (punch, kick, knee, throw, takedown etc). What I also don't like is how soft the punches are,not because the practitioner doesn't apply much force, but of how the punches are thrown don't generate much power.
    Another observation I made is the very low hand position. In the video both practitioners get some slapping or puches to the face because of being their hands much lower from their heads.

    This is what wing Chun looks like, i know it looks stiff. Not like in the movie. That's why modern martial art is way more effective. But still don't forget with Legacy of ancestors.

      Ip Man himself, at a very advanced age, knocked out a Kung Fu master [known for his kicking] who stormed his kwoon with a head kick [& he was documented as using sidekicks against muggers]; his students had to carry the man to the hospital. This happened routinely in those days. Duncan Leung [my lineage] recounts this in his book; I remember many stories from my Sifu [a closed-door student of Duncan]. Ip stated he rarely taught the kicking form as most couldn't handle the pain of conditioning the shins. He said: "Wing Chun's kicks are the most dangerous."

    if this is real wing chun then I don't even wanna think how fake one looks like. It's like "the worst of kickboxing sparring compilation". No power, no speed, technique looks lousy.
    In our judo dojo we have something we call "french sparring" where one guy is only attacking and the other is defending and escaping. We often have fun with the escaping side, being overly relaxed and moving like a wobbly zombie. This here looks like a sparring between 2 wobbly zombies.

      Wing chun is falls under category of striking ,
      Its not an grappling martial arts
      U can learn both striking and grappling its on u , dont go to a muay thai gym and say teach me arm bar u go to a mma gym

    so basically you learn loads of ways to fight with your hands, trap punches, fight at close quarters.....then you spar and you use terrible kicks that are weak and all your hand skills are forgotten.
    What this video shows is that you fight to the size of our surroundings. Have a big room like that any TKD person would kick them 20 times before they even got close. If you want see actual wing chun sparring then make them fight in the corner with no kicks.

      @MydadfasiYodad 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah most ppl who see wing chun from ip man believe it’s like that, that is why most people from mma backgrounds think it’s useless mostly due to it not being realistic in a real fight and due to fake wing chun masters not having any sparring experience and getting destroyed. But the wing chun in this video is actually really good and realistic because they spar which is good because they apply the wing chun theories that work and sparring is essential to being a good fighter.
