- This is a long, detailed walk through of JD Hobbies in San Pedro CA. There are loads of still photos of the inventory on the shelves as of 04/26/2024. There is mix of the old & the new. Aurora, Revell, Monogram, Tamiya, MPC, AMT, FROG, Airfix, Zvezda, Testors, HAWK, ERTL, Lindberg, Hasegawa, Aoshima, Fujimi and well, the get the point. Enjoy.

My wife has banned from this store. She knows I would easily leave with about a hundred kits, a couple hundred bottles of paint and many pieces of memorabilia .😊👍

Hey, Capt. Max, thanks for mentioning the "Battle of Palmdale" on the livestream. On the morning of 16 Aug 1956 it was going on all around us and we were completely oblivious. Nothing in the news. They managed to keep lid on it. I first read about it just a few years ago. Bad day for the USAF. Gillion$ invested in air defense fighters primarily armed with the Mighty Mouse which were effectively useless. Interestingly, the first operational F-102A squadron was then based at at George AFB in nearby Apple Valley. They could have demo'd the F-102A and the AIM-7. Of course, if that didn't work the embarrassment would have been compounded. We were on summer break that day and things seemed very good despite the Cold War. We were probably watching _I Love Lucy_ reruns on TV that morning. Do I ever wish I could get back all that time spent watching old reruns in the summer.
Ah for the days before the internet and constant info overload.
So many memories. I remember a lot of those old kits. An old style hobby store it is. They are few and far between. Need at least a week and a winning lottery ticket to buy all the dreams that this store carries. Thank yo Max for taking the time to get the pictures and compiling this montage. And a very big thank you to Mrs. Louis Lee for letting you share this with the glootroopers.

I do think about that from time to time. The thousands of hours of labor that went in to designing and making the molds etc.
An awesome hobby shop! Times are a changin’, remember the days being able ride the bike to several hobby shops (within pedal range) growing up in the Garden State to spend hard earned chore & paper route money on a kit and paints (the good Model Master and Pactra stuff!). Ross tube cement was preferred over Testors.

Never had that joy, no hobby shops where I grew up. Prepared me for adult life.
@@kudukilla Squadron mail order! Don’t get me wrong, those hobby shops were not around the block nor the next block, they were in the next town or several towns away (for NJ, not the panhandle of TX next town - remember driving to Shallowater general store to set up my phone service for pilot training at Reese, cool time!). My brother and I visited recently and drove one of the trips, a helicopter “parent” would’ve had a stroke at the distance from home.

Funny timing on this video as I stopped in there today, was worth the trip.
Sadly, our last great Hobby shop (in this area) similar to this great store closed about in 2015. A very sad day.

The store was D and J Hobbies in San Jose California. I would drive from my town 1 hour to get there. The best thing was this huge store had arts and crafts to entertain the wife (like Hobby lobby) as a ran down the isles like a kid. RC, Trains, die cast, board games.... You name it they had it.
Would love to have that SKY 1 !
Reminds me of Frank's hobby shop in Crystal lake, Illinois that I spent a lot of time at as a kid. The only thing missing is a slot car race track and a single seat barber chair in the back as Frank ( the owner). was a barber.
