    The lady raising the bird has a huge heart, A good soul And only wants the best for that bird. It's wonderful it gets the best of both worlds growing up with that lady. Lots of work to feed and care after a fledgling . The fact it was raised without limits it seems, ,,It can be taken outside , It knows it's home . I loved the fact you were showing it what to look for in nature on its own as a food source.

    Thanks for sharing snippets of Morris the Myna's day. It made me smile to see the care and freedom he has. This species of myna delights me, because they sometimes reply when I whistle to them as they forage.

    Hi John! I am from India. I just suddenly came across this video the other day as I was searching more health related information on Indian Myna chicks or the bird. Till that time, I watched all your videos couple of times. In fact, I also found three chicks of Indian myna fell from the nest. I discovered them when I was taking out my car from the garage. My maid picked three of them and I ran to see whether anyone was hurt. I got scared as she was telling that they were underneath the tyres. Anyway, I started feeding them since then and its about two weeks now. In between, one passed away. May be because of the paralysis in the leg, Other two were also showing the symptoms, but I gave antibiotic (Cefixime - a good antibiotic available in India) and now they are alright. Tonight I observed very closely that one got completely well and having good amount of food, walking properly and jumping, another is just one the way to get recovered - may be by tomorrow. Your video is very influencing and inspiring. Thanks for sharing.

      Hi Dipankar. Thanks for the message. I hope at least one of your chicks survives. We found Morris as a 1 week old baby at the base of the tree they were roosting in. In New Zealand Indian Mynahs are considered a pest as they are introduced and invasive. Everyone who meet Morris changes their opinion. He is a great pet, very loyal. He flies free outside every day and comes and goes from the house. He comes for trips in the car. He got into a strangers car one day and was lost for nearly a week. Serendipitously he was noticed acting nonbird-like in the main street of a suburb 10km away and brought back to us. If your bird grows up he/she will stick closely to you. We now have to feed him meal works, the grub of a beetle.Where in India are you?you can contact me at john.underhill@aecom.com

      Hi John! Best wishes from India. Sorry for the delayed reply as I got bit tied up with my research work. I read your message the next day you wrote me but couldn't reply or email you because I was sad too. None of the chicks survived ultimately. I mentioned in my earlier message that one got completely cured of the splayed legs and other was on its way to recovery. But after a week, the chick, which got completely cured, suddenly died. I don't know the reason. In the morning, I took them in open air in my backyard so that they get some fresh air and sunlight. One drank water and went underneath a rose plant. So, I lodged another (which couldn't walk due to splayed legs) in the same place as I thought it was a good idea to keep both together for they will give company to each other and also it's being safe underneath a plant (my backyard is comparatively safe from stray dogs since its bounded by 8 ft walls but fear of cats remains there). But in half an hour, my wife told me that one is dead. I ran to see what happened and found that one is dead and it was that chick which got cured of paralysis. It was very sad and so shocking! But I continued to feed the other chick and started having tension thinking that it remain creepy for the whole life. I was also losing time needed for my research work and therefore decided to hand it over to our maid as she also pets birds and recently petted one Indian ring-neck parrot (I also have a parrot but she's Alexandrian Parakeet. I found her from a chicken butcher when she was just 3 months old and grew her up by hand feeding. Now its almost 3 years old). The maid came next day and told me that the chick is alright and eating properly. So I concentrated in my work although I was feeling sad, helpless, and selfish inside my heart for being done with the chick and couldn't get him well. Actually I tried a lot many ways to make him stand on both the legs, and for that I learnt a lot of techniques from the Internet, thought to consult some avian specialist like Dr. Ross Perry in India (Dr. Perry got lots of videos on youtube and while searching the solution, I suddenly found your video which I liked very much) but there is no such vet in India, and specially where I live. It was so sad to myself that I couldn't take care of a life. After two-three days, I went to my maid's home to see how the chick was doing but came to know that in the previous day, it was taken away by a cat. So John! I am not lucky as you are. In India too these birds are dejected by the people. There is no good hospital or doctor for these birds and animals. A year back I felt the same for a street dog in Varanasi whom I fed for more than 4 years. There was a gang of 8 street dogs whom I used to feed very regularly and they loved me so much that I can't forget in my life. And, this dog was the leader of the gang and he always come and fall on my feet and lick. But I couldn't continue to feed them as I had to come and stay in Dhanbad due to my wife's job. She's a school teacher here. After a year or so, when I went back to my home in Varanasi, I found that some dogs were taken away by the municipal guys and few escaped from that catch. This guy, the leader also escaped but someone hit its back by his car and since then it was unable to stand. I tried many ways to find if there was some good hospital to get the xray done or so. But careless is the government or people here. Our society is not like your's. Your society and culture us still better than us in many many ways. My email is deep2901@gmail.com I am from Varanasi (I think you must have heard about the city) but currently living with my wife and a 4 yrs old daughter at the outskirt of Dhanbad.

    • @deep2901

      Yes, but I feel a lot of time helpless and powerless. I don't like to be a mere helpless human but feel like to have the power of God to protect those who can't speak or save themselves from the humans. I couldn't protect the street dogs who loved me the most.

    I am in Australia, and you probably know the reputation that mynas have over here. I have raised many of them, and I try my best to educate people and show them that mynas are beautiful intelligent and very funny birds. I like to remind people that they were introduced, like a lot of other species, by humans. It is not their fault they were brought into an environment in which they are able to thrive.
    If you have instagram, I would love to follow you! Mine is "ploppystink" and I mainly upload photos and videos of my eldest myna, Ploppy

      G'day MC. I am seeing another side to these birds which is fascinating. Although there is no place for them here in Australia. I do my best to eradicate as many as I can as they decimate the native bird population due to their aggressive behaviour. We call them flying rats but I can see they make great pets. I hope you don't release them back into the wild after you raise them

      Morris can come and go as he pleases during the day all year round. He willingly gets into a cage inside at night and sleeps. He doesn't like it in the rain or strong wind. It doesn't get very cold here in Auckland in winter.

    What did you feed him as he got older? I found one and she’s doing well with a variety of things, but I’m always looking for ideas. What is the purée you hold out for Morris? How did you get him to stick around? We have loads of mynahs nearby and I wonder if mine will survive if I release her. She’s still being hand fed so that’s a way off yet. Thanks.

    • @johnthegeo4316
      @johnthegeo4316  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      We fed him meal worms as an adult although he still likes the baby food (purée). Grapes, cherries, cheese, banana, weetbix with milk. No red meat or citrus, bad for them. We rated him from a baby and let him out for short bursts as he was learning to fly. He sleeps inside, gets into his cage to sleep. Flys around outside all day. Where are you?

    • @sheilahight9071
      @sheilahight9071 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      John the Geo We’re in Napier, NZ. I’m feeding this one lentils, scrambled eggs, rearing mix, blueberries, cranberries, an occasional dried mealworm, raisins soaked overnight, apple, (no pips) , cooked rice. I sometimes combine the eggs, rice, together in a mushy mix, although she is tolerating the food a little chunky. I leave some dry rearing mix and fruit in the cage so I can see if she will try to eat it. She’s just started jumping up on her perches. We have cats, so I’m afraid to let her free fly or hop around right now. I may let her have free flight in a spare bedroom though. Thanks for responding.
