    Update: So Quasar Science liked my Instagram post I made of the demo footage, so I guess that must mean these things look pretty good 😂

      Awesome! One tip I have for rgb tubes is to use JST connectors on the ends so that you can more easily connect and un connect them instead of doing any permanent soldering. They’re locking unlike the standard ones you find on the end of the led rolls and they work great for daisy chaining if you attach them to both ends.

    What about color accuracy?

      The strips I used list a CRI of 85 but if you need strips that are more accurate, I linked a 95 CRI strip in the description. In my use case though, I often have the tubes blowing out on camera so they are completely white.

    Great video! Do you think this would work with just one row of leds in stead of two?
    I'm looking to make them dmx addressable and create effects so having one row of individually addressable leds would make this more straightforward. I'm just not sure if the visual effect will be as good as in your vid.

      Yes you can do it with one row! I made some with one row of rgb leds to use on a stage in a church and while they’re not as bright, they’re fairly close and still look great. Brightness will also depend on which exact leds you go with. I have also helped make some tubes with individually addressable leds and they were to bright for the cameras so the output had to capped at about 75%. It will all depend on which leds you buy

    Where can I find those clear plastic tube? I've been looking around and some are expensive...

      I got my tubes from Menards. They have more recently changed the style of the end caps that makes it a bit more difficult to work with, so if you can find one where the cap goes over the tubes instead of sliding inside the tube, that will be much easier to work with

      They are around 100$ to 240$ those plastic tubes

      They’re $3.97 each right now at Menards. Check the link in the description

    Really cool build - I just finished a similar build/tutorial, and had looked at those light guards initially but was concerned with durability. How have these held up?

    • @michaelcarroll1670
      @michaelcarroll1670  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They’ve been holding up very well so far! I even installed them at my church for 1-2 months as stage lighting where they’re fallen down off the wall multiple times and they’re still going strong. I also helped install a whole wall of these tubes with individually addressable led strips to be DMX controllable at a very large church and they’ve had them for about a year now and they’re working great.
