Hey everyone thanks for watching the vid! I always hate spamming the actual video with this kinda stuff but if anyone wants to further support the channel, please consider joining our Patreon. The TH-cam algorithm can be a fickle beast at times and as a channel that doesn't upload a crazy amount of videos and prioritizes quality over quantity, it can suck to spend a few weeks on a vid and not have it perform very well. So extra support through avenues like Patreon can ease the pressure on us a bit and can really go a long way. Our lowest tiers are $2 and $5, and even those grant you access to our Discord channel where the chill vibes continue. At the end of the day though we're happy just to have everyone here watching, so if you aren't able to join the Patreon or simply just choose not to, that is absolutely totally fine! Just being here and watching our videos is plenty support, and we greatly appreciate that. Thank you everyone and link to the Patreon is below for anyone that wants to join! www.patreon.com/gamingbroductions
As I approach 50 😢 I've decided to pause my consumption of newer games to go back to some masterpieces like these. I love modern games and sprawling adventures but time is becoming more precious to me.
It definitely did lol. I’m sure most of us spent way longer than 20 hours on our first playthrough as a kid though due to probably getting lost occasionally, spending time figuring out how to recruit everyone, messing around with stuff at the castle, etc.
Those are all very valid points. I just prefer the SNES version as I like playing on a bigger screen and am not that crazy about the extra side content the DS version adds because I feel it messes up the pacing if you choose to 100% it and doesn’t really add anything that interesting in my opinion, whereas in the original the game still feels perfectly paced even when 100%ing. But obviously that stuff is completely optional and can be skipped so really not a big deal at the end of the day. I should have at least brought up that version so that’s my bad!
Why beat Chrono Trigger just once? It's worth playing on both SNES and 3DS. I think SNES is better because the 3DS XL screen is too small to fully appreciate this game, and there isn't that much additional content.
I know it’s the same intro every time, but it inevitably pulls a tear from me every time. It throws me back to a time in my that was unfiltered carefree joy and bliss. Video games over the weekends and at friends houses. If only I knew how much that time would eventually mean to me.
All these years later, the town music from Threads Of Fate still lives in my head rent free for some reason. I never did finish my first playthrough, but I’m sure I got pretty far. I remember the gameover/continue system with the different coins being pretty interesting.
Thank you! Yes I definitely prefer more compact experiences with tighter pacing these days rather than overly bloated games that overstay their welcome!
Great list. Makes me want to play through Parasite Eve and Chrono Trigger again. I also always enjoy that you put some highlight onto the music. Soundtracks back in the good old golden days sure hit different.
I remember being blown away by Xenogears length, finished around 80 hours on my first playthrough... nowadays thats the standard...maybe even on the shorter side of RPGs. I miss the snes/ps1/2 era where RPGs seemed to be 40ish hours and if you wanted to replay something it wasnt a multiple month commitment.
I have a friend who finishes streaming these 120+ hour jrpgs like the Trails games in 50+ hours by skipping all cutscenes. He just reads the wiki in advance and watches the cutscenes on TH-cam.😂
CT and FF6 are hands down my all time favorite JRPG’s! Can’t tell you how many hours of my life I’ve spent playing these two games alone, especially as a young teenager when they first came out!
There was just absolutely nothing remotely like those games when they came out. They were so above every other RPG, they really set a standard and a baseline that holds to this day.
I just played Soul Blazer and Superstar Saga for the first time within the past two months, and I'm revisiting Chrono Trigger after 5 years right now. Great list with great games!
We have such similar taste in games. It's wild. Love the shoutouts to Ark of Napishtim and Threads of Fate. Breath of Fire Dragon Quarter (the game everyone loves to hate) is one that I came to love over the years, especially with how fast it goes once you get the hang of it. Vagrant Story is an acquired taste but also one I regularly revisit for a quick playthrough. I also love that Vagrant Story is one of the only PS1 games I can think of that has its own set of achievements/trophies in the game, like clearing without using magic, opening every single chest in the game, 100% map completion, etc.
I haven’t touched Dragon Quarter in forever tbh, but I feel like I could have more appreciation for it nowadays if I just embraced it for what it is instead of judging it for what it’s not
Truly great video my friend. My favorite game genre by a mile and one that has kept me feeling warm and in good company for many decades now. Glad it’s still going strong, too! Thank you.
Thank you for this list! I'll definitely check out many of these. Also, it is ALWAYS great to hear Chrono Trigger getting more love. No amount of love is too much for that game.
Love the idea for this vid, guys! CT is always #1. I will say though; games like Bravely Default 2 or Octopath don't respect my time, but I know it's 'grind to win' so actually pretty chill to play over a long term and I can do handheld in between bigger games.
Parasite Eve was such a great experience. I did feel Aya's running animation was extremely slow (fast forwarded through emulation though). Well worth the time
Yeah I definitely did think of that as she does move pretty damn slow, if it was a really long game it would have been more of a drawback I think but since it’s such a short game it never gets overly annoying to me
Chrono Trigger was my first JRPG and I absolutely loved it. No other title could impress me more than CT... the story, the characters, the multiple endings, the combat system. I recommend playing the snes hack Chrono Trigger Plus.
Same, only sad thing about it was that I would have never guessed in my wildest dreams that it would be the peak of gaming. But it was. 30 years later and I still haven't played a game that has topped it.
Big fan of the channel and I've been watching for a while. Would you consider adding a link to the video in the interlude in the video description? Thanks for the great content!
Because you mentioned Ys 6 not having fast travel options: It actually does! The thing is, it wasn't availible in the old 2003(?) version of the game and was first added in the PS2 version of it, but it was more limited there in compare to the steam release. So technically, it does save time, but like you lose around 10 minutes if you do it in the PS2 version compared to the PC steam or GOG version of it. (Because one warps you to the entrance of a dungeon or town, the other warps you to all save points in the game no matter how deep they are placed in a dungeon.)
Great video. A couple of games that I should definitely look at and give a try or a try again. 😂. If you make another video about this then here is my suggestions: Live a live Golden sun 1(not 2, although it’s recommended after playing the first one) Voice of cards(any of them, highly recommend playing.) listed yet. Maybe: Star ocean 1 and 2 technically(if you just do the main story itself) Basically any Megaman battle network games(as long as you are doing the main story) Kingdom hearts chain of memories(it’s a card game too but it’s got jrpg elements and action) I am sure I am forgetting others but I am only listing what I played that you haven’t you
I remember when Threads of Fate came out. It was touted as "The Summer of RPGs". Legend of Mana and Chrono Cross also came out within months of each other. And GameStop had pre-order goodies like an OST for each game and CC had a neat clock. Unfortunately, I never ended up getting the OST for CC. Yeah... that was a good summer.
yeah of course, i meant like as far as respecting your time. i mean the game is attempting jrpg vibes but is technically and aesthetically western. also not weird enough! but i still like it
Suikoden will forever be my n1 game ever. I SO hope modding will be possible with the remake on stream, i fiddled with the sprites so many times and made my owns
Thank you for talking about Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim. I love that game! The boss fights are so much fun. People who dislike it just never got good at dash jumping. xD
Nice, this film is beginning from two of my best experiences with jRPGs. I just love Chrono Trigger and Ys VI. And about rest from video i think that i want to play most of them in the future, especially that they aren't last for dozens of hours. I will gladly watch more about this kind of RPGs and maybe also about second site of medal, RPGs that seems too long than they should.
Chrono Trigger really is that good. And I agree that despite a few mistranslations (relevant to the story/events), it feels the most charming. The only exception to the time is the rom hack 'Schala Edition' which does change the translation, but does a lot of QoL updates and adds in an entirely new section in 12,000 BC where you save Schala after the Ocean Palace disaster.
I mean I know you put these 2 games in every video but the lack of Grandia 2 and Breath of Fire 4 hurts my soul 😂 I think being a main game in their respective series they clock out at the 30-40 hour mark in which to me is perfect. Also a fantastic entry to Suikoden 1 with the 5 games having each of their own greatness. I'm also in the same boat that S1 is the most replayable out of all them. I love S2 to my core but every time I have to replay specially with the remaster coming I always have to mentally prepare myself as the game gives you a roller coaster of emotions
A couple great choices and a couple I've never heard of (but now want to try.) The only glaring omission to me is Golden Sun 1 and 2. Those are the Chrono Trigger sequels we should have had.
Yes, DewPrism (aka Threads Of Fate)! That game doesn't get enough love. Part of the incredible year that gave us Chrono Cross and FF9. Squaresoft was really on to of the world back then, huh?
Regarding Ys VI: You don't _need_ to use the dash jump to finish the game. You only need it to access an optional item and a secret boss - both in the same area - and neither required to complete the game. Even then, you only need the dash jump at one point (the point Broductions shows in the video). I personally enjoyed my time playing Ys VI more than Oath or Origins. The story's good, too.
Sea of Stars is heavily inspired by Chrono Trigger, Golden Sun, and others and can be completed in the 20- 30 hour range. It's definitely a love letter to the genre, but fortunately doesn't feel like you would rather be playing what it is inspired from!
Threads of Fate is such a top tier game to me. I've never finished it as it is crazy tough and the stupid platforming sections, but I love the characters, world, and overall gameplay systems. It's a game I keep playing over and over and never getting to the end cause I suck haha. A short rpg that doesn't waste time I would add is Nier Automata. Excluding all the side quests you could likely get through the central story within 20 hrs give or take. I beat the main story and a bunch of side quests within 45hrs so it has a good spread of extras to do. That and I probably got distracted just enjoying the scenery and music.
Superstar Saga is my favourite out of all Mario RPGs! Also, Soul Blazer is pretty unique and really fun too! Can vouch for both of those! Threads of Fate intrigues me, I'll keep it in mind and check it out at some point! As for a couple good RPGs that aren't too long and are pretty fun and well-paced, I'd say Swordcraft Story 1 and 2 on GBA are pretty good picks! With the first game coming in at 20 hours, and the 2nd one being around 25, both have a lovely cast, an engaging story that feels like an action fantasy anime, and really fun gameplay with dungeon crawling, a side-view action battle system, and a weapon crafting system! Also, Dragon Quest IV and V would be good picks too for more traditional RPGs, neither of them is too long, both are very beginner-friendly and also very engaging, with great stories, well developed characters, and everything you do in both games feels meaningful! But I wouldn't be me if I didn't give major shout-outs to the original NES version of Dragon Warrior IV, that's honestly the best NES RPG I've ever played, and still a surprisingly smooth experience, once you get past the very minor hurdle of having to use a command menu to interact with the game's world, it holds up surprisingly well! (But make sure you use the cheat code to enable you to directly control the rest of your party in chapter 5)
I'm looking forward to the Suikoden remakes coming out. Never did get to play them on the ps1. And threads of fate looks pretty fun too! Random question, but what's some of the non-coziest games in your opinion? Excited to hear more about Koudelka.
Do you mean non-cozy as in the atmosphere is dark and depressing like Koudelka to use as an example? Or non-cozy just in the way how the game actually plays?
@@GamingBroductions that's a good question lol. I was thinking the opposite of whatever you think is cozy, so maybe unsettling? Koudelka would probably fit that.
My brother and I played Suikoden 2 first. Then we played Suikoden 1 and we were surprised that we finished it so fast we wer not sure that we finished the game lol. We really love the Suikoden ps1 games so we're excited for the remaster!
Persona 5 Royal is the JRPG that respects your time the most. It eliminates the time you waste deciding what to play next by giving you 150 hours of a perfect game

Maybe the best channel focusing on JRPGs.
I find the narrator's voice so soothing. Plus the intro is lit.
Easily the best
and also the best channel with good choice remix JRPG game music
The best channel on TH-cam…period.
Maybe?? You mean it is, not maybe.
As I approach 50 😢 I've decided to pause my consumption of newer games to go back to some masterpieces like these. I love modern games and sprawling adventures but time is becoming more precious to me.
might even consider learning japanese then, since many region locked games are a hidden gem, like Tales of Rebirth, Ys: Dawn of Ys, Shining series
its precious for us all. you're blessed you realise it.
A perfect video to watch while filling up the compendium in SMT V!
Hell yeah love to hear it, happy grinding!
Chrono Trigger is the best 25 hours you'll ever spend in a video game, even in 2024.
Sure
Hard to argue with that, and if you've played it a million times and it's lost it's challenge you can download some rom hacks
That 20 hours in Suikoden felt way different when I was a kid lol
It definitely did lol. I’m sure most of us spent way longer than 20 hours on our first playthrough as a kid though due to probably getting lost occasionally, spending time figuring out how to recruit everyone, messing around with stuff at the castle, etc.
@GamingBroductions excited about the remasters? Ever talk about sea of stars & elyuiden Chronicle?
Stand by DS version of Chrono Trigger being the best way to play. You get the cutscenes, loading times, and best controls.
And on a DSi XL for that juicy bulky pixels.
Why beat Chrono Trigger just once? It's worth playing on both SNES and 3DS.
I think SNES is better because the 3DS XL screen is too small to fully appreciate this game, and there isn't that much additional content.
I always miss Frog talking like Cyan when I play the DS version
I just said it and it's cheaper than the SNES version by far, I have the ps1 version myself
I know it’s the same intro every time, but it inevitably pulls a tear from me every time. It throws me back to a time in my that was unfiltered carefree joy and bliss. Video games over the weekends and at friends houses. If only I knew how much that time would eventually mean to me.
That intro is just so chill
More Broductions = good news
All these years later, the town music from Threads Of Fate still lives in my head rent free for some reason. I never did finish my first playthrough, but I’m sure I got pretty far. I remember the gameover/continue system with the different coins being pretty interesting.
That town music always makes me so nostalgic. There's not enough accordion music in games
Great topic! I hate when JRPGs or any game for that matter does not respect your time! These are great!
The music plays a vital role in creating the amazing atmospheres many of these games have so it only feels right to give it their due appreciation
The bass hit nicely in the Chrono Trigger outro 👌
I’ve always used both Chrono Trigger and Parasite Eve as two JRPG’s that are perfectly balanced and never wasting your time.
They just nailed the pacing in these. Everything matters and nothing ever feels like wasted time
Exactly, Chrono Trigger is probably the greatest rpg ever created.
UK here, we only got parasite eve 2 but it's one game I played multiple times
I remember being blown away by Xenogears length, finished around 80 hours on my first playthrough... nowadays thats the standard...maybe even on the shorter side of RPGs.
I miss the snes/ps1/2 era where RPGs seemed to be 40ish hours and if you wanted to replay something it wasnt a multiple month commitment.
Why did it take you 80 hours for Xenogears? Thats a ridiculous amount of time. Were you doing 100%?
@@shugo1047 ahh makes sense. I was gonna say, just the main story is about 50 hours but you went for the 100
I have a friend who finishes streaming these 120+ hour jrpgs like the Trails games in 50+ hours by skipping all cutscenes. He just reads the wiki in advance and watches the cutscenes on TH-cam.😂
Another great video. Chrono trigger is one of the few snes games I kept after minimizing my collection, and I will never get rid of it.
Thanks! It’s a timeless classic for sure
Threads of Fate is a must play. I spent hours after hours didn’t get tired! I miss the old days! Thank you for sharing brother!
It’s a really fun and charming game for sure. Thank you, appreciate you watching!
Too many people don’t know Threads of Fate, man. Loved it back in the day.
In need to remember the full name of the boat lol
omg i thought the intermission segment was just for vibes, but turns out its a 5 star promo too.
The editing quality of this channel always impresses me! Some great games.
Appreciate that!
You're the man for highlighting Soulblazer.
Quintet games were so good
You make very cozy videos and the editing is excellent. Here's one for the algorithm.
Thank you, we appreciate that!
the intro on this channel is s tier
CT and FF6 are hands down my all time favorite JRPG’s! Can’t tell you how many hours of my life I’ve spent playing these two games alone, especially as a young teenager when they first came out!
There was just absolutely nothing remotely like those games when they came out. They were so above every other RPG, they really set a standard and a baseline that holds to this day.
Thankyou so much for making these videos. I love rpgs and they are my favorite genre. You have very high quality and the passion shows
No problem, we appreciate you watching! We do put a lot of passion and time into our content so glad to hear that reflects in the videos
I just played Soul Blazer and Superstar Saga for the first time within the past two months, and I'm revisiting Chrono Trigger after 5 years right now. Great list with great games!
All classics for sure. Thank you!
We have such similar taste in games. It's wild. Love the shoutouts to Ark of Napishtim and Threads of Fate. Breath of Fire Dragon Quarter (the game everyone loves to hate) is one that I came to love over the years, especially with how fast it goes once you get the hang of it. I haven’t touched Dragon Quarter in forever tbh, but I feel like I could have more appreciation for it nowadays if I just embraced it for what it is instead of judging it for what it’s not
Please do more! It’s so helpful when you are an elder gamer that no longer has infinite time in the day
We’ll likely do a part 2 sometime in the future!
Truly great video my friend. My favorite game genre by a mile and one that has kept me feeling warm and in good company for many decades now. Glad it’s still going strong, too! Thank you.
Chrono trigger still is the best paced JRPG. I feel like its the gold standard
Totally agree
14:07 I loved the shoutout to SNESDrunk
Thank you for this list! I'll definitely check out many of these. Also, it is ALWAYS great to hear Chrono Trigger getting more love. No amount of love is too much for that game.
Love the idea for this vid, guys! CT is always #1. I will say though; games like Bravely Default 2 or Octopath don't respect my time, but I know it's 'grind to win' so actually pretty chill to play over a long term and I can do handheld in between bigger games.
Excellent as always. Also, there is something special about those PSX era menu screens and in their sound design... 🤤
The editing is so artful on this channel.
ow ow, sidequests being free time is hurtfully accurate.
“I need you to get me 20 goblin knives before you move on”
-No thanks bro
Love the threads of fate, it has the same vibes with brave fencer musashi
For sure, they’re both real similar with the charm and the vibes
Short RPG time with GamingBroductions another great video
Thanks dude 👍
Parasite Eve was such a great experience. I did feel Aya's running animation was extremely slow (fast forwarded through emulation though). Well worth the time
Yeah I definitely did think of that as she does move pretty damn slow, if it was a really long game it would have been more of a drawback I think but since it’s such a short game it never gets overly annoying to me
Really cool to think about this kind of criteria. Mario rpg and superstar saga are ones that definitely respects your time !
For sure! A lot of the Mario RPGs are great with this, I love the first Paper Mario a lot too
Love the hook in the intro! Great audio choice!
Rip Murayama. You were my absolute idol.
This is something I need more of as my gaming time has drastically reduced in recent years 😂
Definitely know the feel!
Thank you for mentioning Threads of Fate, it's one of my favorite RPGs of all time ^_^
Chrono Trigger was my first JRPG and I absolutely loved it.
Great video as always! Looking forward to the next one!
Thank you, got some cool stuff in the works!
Big fan of the channel and I've been watching for a while.

This is the exact title I was hoping to see pop up somewhere, similarly for novelists
Threads of Fate looks incredible, Im suprised i havent heard of it before. I want to get it sometime for sure
Great video. A couple of games that I should definitely look at and give a try or a try again. 😂.
If you make another video about this then here is my suggestions:
Live a live
Golden sun 1(not 2, although it’s recommended after playing the first one)
Voice of cards(any of them, highly recommend playing.)
listed yet.
Maybe:
Star ocean 1 and 2 technically(if you just do the main story itself)
Basically any Megaman battle network games(as long as you are doing the main story)
Kingdom hearts chain of memories(it’s a card game too but it’s got jrpg elements and action)
I am sure I am forgetting others but I am only listing what I played that you haven’t you
I remember when Threads of Fate came out. It was touted as "The Summer of RPGs". Legend of Mana and Chrono Cross also came out within months of each other. And GameStop had pre-order goodies like an OST for each game and CC had a neat clock. Unfortunately, I never ended up getting the OST for CC. Yeah... that was a good summer.
i feel this way about Sea of Stars
The character designs, writing, etc makes it extremely obvious that game isn't Japanese
yeah of course, i meant like as far as respecting your time. i mean the game is attempting jrpg vibes but is technically and aesthetically western. also not weird enough! but i still like it
Watching this before work. Can’t wait to watch the rest tonight!
Hope you enjoy!
I just finished jack over after picking it up on sale, and for under $10 & 10hrs it was a good time throwback rpg
Suikoden will forever be my n1 game ever. I SO hope modding will be possible with the remake on stream, i fiddled with the sprites so many times and made my owns
Glad to see Soul Blazer on the list. I revisit it every couple of years, pretty much more than any other classic game.
quatera woods music from ys 6 always gives me chills.
Such an amazing track, I forgot how good it was
Please do a video about long RPGs that are worth your time! 🙏🏾
Thank you for talking about Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim. I love that game! The boss fights are so much fun. People who dislike it just never got good at dash jumping. xD
Great list and topic. Illusion of Gaia I would recommend as well.
Another great video guys, kudos!
Thank you!
20:59 it looks like the game my uncle used to play, it's a dwarf samurai with 2 swords sucking enemies with it.
Exactly what i needed. Thanks!
No problem, thanks for watching!
Nice, this film is beginning from two of my best experiences with jRPGs. I just love Chrono Trigger and Ys VI. Oh nice I’ve been doing jrpg month so this was good. Maybe will post about some of these games to get them out there
Hi everyone. Hope you're all having a great day! Always love the videos! Glad I could be here early.
Thank you! Hope you’re having a wonderful day yourself

oh man those classic games hits different.
I picked up Threads of Fate a few weeks ago at a convention. I really like the PSOne aesthetic in that game.
It’s a got a real charm with its art style and overall vibe for sure
Course imma need that part 2 my dudes
In due time homie 👌
Always excited to see a new video!
With the very first two games mentioned being two games I love and two games that I have installed on my iPhone!!!!
Let's go !!
I mean I know you put these 2 games in every video but the lack of Grandia 2 and Breath of Fire 4 hurts my soul 😂 I think being a main game in their respective series they clock out at the 30-40 hour mark in which to me is perfect.

I love S2 to my core but every time I have to replay specially with the remaster coming I always have to mentally prepare myself as the game gives you a roller coaster of emotions
34, replayed Chrono Trigger the other day.
After all this time, this is still my fav game ever.
A couple great choices and a couple I've never heard of (but now want to try.) The only glaring omission to me is Golden Sun 1 and 2. Those are the Chrono Trigger sequels we should have had.
This is not about solely good games but good games that respect your time, so GS games can't count here.
Yes, DewPrism (aka Threads Of Fate)! That game doesn't get enough love. Part of the incredible year that gave us Chrono Cross and FF9. Squaresoft was really on to of the world back then, huh?
Torna is such an underrated game. Far and away the best dlc I've ever played for a game.
You know there’s a few games here I’ve never heard of and want to check out, Threads of Fate seems sick
It’s definitely a cool little game. Wish Square would port it to more modern hardware one of these days for easier accessibility
Superstar Saga no doubt! Also makes battles very active.
Top tier channel. God, I love it here
Thanks for watching and the support!
Gonna be honest, I saw a Xenoblade come up and I was wondering if you were 'aving a giggle, I had no idea the DLC for 2 was a condensed experience lol
Regarding Ys VI: You don't _need_ to use the dash jump to finish the game.
The snesdrunk shoutout had me rolling, fantastic video bro
He’s an OG in the retro game space. Thanks dude!
Loved it bro!
Thanks dude!
There’s no place for excessive grinding in 2024! I love RPGs that pull you through an epic adventure without feeling like you are overpaying time-wise
That intro… 🔥 🔥
Awesome list!
Thank you!
Yay! Threads of Fate mentioned!
About time right?
@@GamingBroductions Right! Like the other guy said, the town music still lives in my head. Not a perfect game but such a charming JRPG...
nver could get behind Suikoden not being able to "run" with a B button or something
Lot's of classic bangers
Chrono trigger is legit my favorite game ever. I love it. Takes about 16 hours to beat it all
I love you Broductions!!!
”Respect your time”
2 minute intro
Persona 5 Royal is the JRPG that respects your time the most. It eliminates the time you waste deciding what to play next by giving you 150 hours of a perfect game
