Good Morning Sir Matt, Beautiful Fly Matt, And you Know there is nothing like MOTHER'S EYES that's what I would call it. Wish your Wife a Happy Mother's Day and make Mama Happy.
After adding my name suggestions, I started reading all the other ones. Good luck to the name choosing team. There are some great ones. After a few more holiday fly naming sessions, it would be great to put them all in a shadow box with labels to feature on the channel at some point. Maybe even make it a prize?
You're reading my mind Bob! I'm already planning to do this. I've tied at least three of each of these and am planning on making two shadow boxes. One for my wall and then one to give away somehow. It might be a random drawing between the winning entries, or just a giveaway like all the others.
Great looking streamer. Since it is May and Mother's Day, Bluebells come to mind as they are usually blooming around this time. The "Bluebell Streamer" sounds like a great name.
That’s a cool fly!! I’ve never seen buck tail tamed the you did on the body, that was awesome!! Thanks for sharing Matt, good luck with naming the fly!!
My Mother’s Eyes 👀. I’m going to use the Starling Cape I just received this week for the eyes. A cheap imitation for Jungle Cock Eye. I think it will work ok. Great looking streamer Matt. Thank you for the great video. Happy Mother’s Day to all of our fishing moms and all moms.
Nice comment Jeff and thank you my friend! And oh yeah, there are lots of great wet flies you can tie with that starling. I've got one I fish often called the Starling and Red and it has done great for me. Check it out, just don't give me too much grief as this was one of my early videos. :-) th-cam.com/video/vvYQyS5Uufg/w-d-xo.html
@@SavageFlies No grief at all buddy. I started with your first video and worked my way up. I lost track where I’m actually at. I’ve watched a bunch of them. The Starling is very pretty in color. When the sun hits it, I love the iridescent colors. I will definitely check out the video link. Thanks for sharing that. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
Very nice, thanks Matt, I look always your patterns this for me is the "Dutch mom", because need sheap and little stuf to make it. Greetz from Holland,🤗
"A Prayer for Mama" On Mothers Day, call your mother and say a prayer over her, If you can't call, say a prayer for her and the people she has loved during her life. After Mothers day tie this on and pray big mama trout grabs it..... Thanks for another holiday streamer Matt, I enjoyed the Video.
Good morning sir Matt. Very nice looking streamer like the bucktail body. Thank you for the info on the info for the jungle cock eyes. Think the Rolling Stones said it best Mother's Little Helper. Have a great day and stay safe my friend.
in honor of my mother who passed May 7th 2020 from Covid, I would suggest naming this the Flo flower - Matt thanks for another cool pattern and one more tying trick I can add to my arsenal
Sharp pattern. This might even translate to one of my bass jigs. As far as a name goes I like "Sweet Madame Blue" as my name of choice. Thanks for sharing. 😁
Cool looking fly Matt. I'd call it the mom's secret recipe. Theriaults fly shop up in Staceyville, Maine is an awesome shop. They have everything you would ever need.
Nice one Jayden! And thanks for the note on Theriault's shop. I definitely want to check it out someday. Just don't get that far up north very often. :-)
This contest is a tough one. Green and blue -- like grapes -- reminded me of smelling the grape arbours near Lake Erie during the early part of the steelhead run. I just can't decide whether it should be called Moby Grape or Don Cherry.
This is such a fun and creative series. Thanks Matt. How about “Who Needs a Caddis Hatch” as a name. Since Mother’s Day is often known for the famous caddis hatch that coincides with celebrating our mom’s.
Hey Matt good morning ☕️☕️ Man I am moving rather slow this morning. And my brain is doing the same. That is an elegant looking streamer. You really came up with a ringer! Maybe “Mother’s choice”
I like it Jim! I've been up and at it all day... a horse show, birthday party, and we took Lisa out for dinner tonight. Now I'm finally winding down. Tell Joyce Happy Mother's Day from us. :-)
@@SavageFlies Man, sounds like you have been busy! Tell Lisa Happy Mother’s Day from us as well. And hope tomorrow is relaxing. Took Joyce to Gibbs Gardens then went fishing got one rainbow. So good day all in all. May do another guide trip on Thursday.
Hey Matt, I'm curious of the historical precedence for the bucktail body (i.e. previous patterns/tyers). I don't recall ever seeing that in my catalog of fly fishing books.
I can't think of one off the top of my head Craig, but I'm sure I've seen a wrapped bucktail body out there. Maybe it was from the skunk caddis, a nymph that calls for skunk tail wrapped like this, but with bucktail as an option. Whichever pattern I saw it done on, it certainly wasn't a common one!
I’m reading Bates’ work on streamers. I can see why Mike Valla references it all of the time; very complete. If a bucktail as a streamer body is gonna be anywhere, it’ll probably be there.
Congrats! We just wrapped up the voting and this came out on top. Send me an email to let me know which hat you prefer (khaki or blue/gray) and I'll get it and the gift card on the way to you. :-) matt@savageflies.com
Nice pattern Matt. Lots of good names, my first choice was taken. So the way you wrapped that body I'll go with Swaddelini. Just like momma's warm hug :o)
Great job on the green body wrap. It’s very even & when viewed at at more than a couple of feet, it would be hard to tell it wasn’t floss or yarn. Name? I keep thinking “Mom’s Blue Hat” or “Mom’s Green Dress.”
Thanks Bob and I like both these names. With a slight preference for Mom's Blue Hat. I could see that name making it in a book someday. And we could vary the body color and still call it a "blue hat" as long as we kept the wing blue. Hmmm... maybe I'll actually try fishing this thing and see if it will catch something. :-)
Good looking streamer there Matt? When I name something, sometimes I'll think of a song title. Like my boats are named "Dark Star" and "Wharf Rat" (Grateful Dead). How about the Rolling Stones song, "Mother's little Helper" ?
Nice one Daryl! I think a lot more people remembered this song than I would have thought as at least five people have said this. (You called it first though so you're on the list. :-) )
Mama Knows - I like the colors of this one, it's really sharp looking! Obviously, don't enter me in the contest for gear and the gift card. I was just outside wearing my hat! And this weekend my mom asked about my Savage Flies T-shirt! It's great quality gear.
Morning Matt. I like the way you choose the colors. Wouldn't the buck tail body just break the water film. Yes I know we can use a sinking line. Would you add lead wire to the fly. Just thinking. I would call the fly "The Love Bug". Have a blessed day and spoil the wife.
I thought about that Nich, and it's definitely not going to be a fast sinker but I think it'll get down. Some 0.015 weight on the front half wouldn't be a bad idea though. Your "Love Bug" is on the list my friend. :-)
Interesting pattern. Unusual color combination but not gaudy. My name for it is Mother's Little Helper Streamer. Keep doing these fun contests and interesting, original flies.
How about "Sylvia's Mother" By Dr. Barbless Hook... 🤣 On a side note to your holiday series, I noticed you missed Easter... I would also like to add the first name for the father's day fly... Call it "Pull My Finger"... LOL Too soon? 😀
Holy cow Randy I can't remember the last time I heard a Dr. Hook song! Now I'm watching some of their videos while answering these comments. Oh man, this is pure 70s. But okay, Sylvia's Mother is on the list. And Pull My Finger will be a great one for Father's Day! But you're going to have to remind me again. :-)
Best holiday fly yet Matt.Great lookin fly.Looks a little French to me.So how about "fete des meres" Means Happy Mothers Day in french.Good luck everyone.
How about "la mouche verte". That's "the green fly" in French. Another nice simple fly, and like many others I really like the bucktail body. Keep the good stuff coming buddy.

Nice one Dean. And I like a fly with a name that has a little significance behind it! You're on the list my friend. :-)
Short and simple..."The Matriarch"
Deliberate or not, it was a good touch, Matt, to not give "Mother" a beard!
Ha! Nice one Jim. And I didn't even think of that when I tied on a pink tuft of marabou for a throat/beard.
I like “A Mother’s Love”. I think that’s says it all.

I love these "Name That Fly" videos. Good looking fly, and a new technique with the bucktail body. How about Mother's Little Helper for a name?
