Danny has always had a special place in my heart for his performances of this song, and "Daddy Never Was the Cadillac Kind". Both songs describes my parents to a tee, and his rich, warm baritone voice is a Country classic!
What a tremendous song, how I remember the days when our son was a young one and country music like this filled the airwaves. And I would buy the 45's! Thanks for posting!
One of my favorite Confederate Railroad songs. It's kinda sad knowing that a lot of people go down the wrong road in life, and, by the time they get back on track, most of their loved ones are gone.
It is sad. I agree with you. People make bad choices in life about a lot of bad stuff ie: alcohol, drugs, smoking, sex, drunk driving, gambling. As for myself, I’m a straight edge person. No alcohol, no drugs, I don’t gamble anymore, and I don’t smoke. Although I do have a girlfriend
I lost my mom three and a half years ago. Sure hope she puts in a good word or two for me. She turned me on to Confederate Railroad back in the early 90s
My toddler grandson loves this song, so I changed the words....the chorus now goes like this: Jesus and Mama and Grandma love me, don't let the devil take control....now I need to find new words for that part about other men's wives :)
*Music is my Life* "Jesus & Mama" I made a wish upon a star I could have a brand new car Got tired of wishing So I stole one Seventeen and knew it all My dreams were big but my thoughts were small So many roads somehow I chose The wrong one CHORUS But Jesus and mama always loved me Even when the devil took control Jesus and mama always loved me This I know I felt tried most all my life Found new kinds of lows and highs Never been a husband but I had a lot of wives To hold me Headstrong, stubborn, couldn't be told Like a wild horse that couldn't be rode A rainbow chaser hungry for gold And still searchin' REPEAT CHORUS I wish mom could see me now And how I've turned it all around Lately I've been going down The right road Life's a picture that you paint With blues and grays and cans of canvas Heaven knows I'm not a saint But I know REPEAT CHORUS
I made a wish upon a star I could have a brand new car Got tired of wishing So I stole one Seventeen and knew it all My dreams were big but my thoughts were small So many roads somehow I chose The wrong one CHORUS But Jesus and mama always loved me Even when the devil took control Jesus and mama always loved me This I know I felt tried most all my life Found new kinds of lows and highs Never been a husband but I had a lot of wives To hold me Headstrong, stubborn, couldn't be told Like a wild horse that couldn't be rode A rainbow chaser hungry for gold And still searchin' REPEAT CHORUS I wish mom could see me now And how I've turned it all around Lately I've been going down The right road Life's a picture that you paint With blues and grays and cans of canvas Heaven knows I'm not a saint But I know

One of the many great songs I became acquainted with during my 90s sojourn through country music.

You're welcome, Thank You!

*Music is my Life*
"Jesus & Mama"
I made a wish upon a star
I could have a brand new car
Got tired of wishing
So I stole one
Seventeen and knew it all
My dreams were big but my thoughts were small
So many roads somehow I chose
The wrong one
CHORUS
But Jesus and mama always loved me
Even when the devil took control
Jesus and mama always loved me
This I know
I felt tried most all my life
Found new kinds of lows and highs
Never been a husband but I had a lot of wives
To hold me
Headstrong, stubborn, couldn't be told
Like a wild horse that couldn't be rode
A rainbow chaser hungry for gold
And still searchin'
REPEAT CHORUS
I wish mom could see me now
And how I've turned it all around
Lately I've been going down
The right road
Life's a picture that you paint
With blues and grays and cans of canvas
Heaven knows I'm not a saint
But I know
REPEAT CHORUS
Was my mother and son dance love it uppitty peopke didint get it but mother and son did

Yes it is....I've always loved this song. I had a Loving Christian Mother
Love it!
I made a wish upon a star
I could have a brand new car
Got tired of wishing
So I stole one
Seventeen and knew it all
My dreams were big but my thoughts were small
So many roads somehow I chose
The wrong one
CHORUS
But Jesus and mama always loved me
Even when the devil took control
Jesus and mama always loved me

I felt tried most all my life
Found new kinds of lows and highs
Never been a husband but I had a lot of wives
To hold me
Headstrong, stubborn, couldn't be told
Like a wild horse that couldn't be rode
A rainbow chaser hungry for gold
And still searchin'
REPEAT CHORUS
I wish mom could see me now
And how I've turned it all around
Lately I've been going down
The right road
Life's a picture that you paint
