Great sounds with the G-Force. I bought two of them for my two classic rigs. When you use it in parallel mode your original sound will not be altered. Then you can enjoy the fantastic effects in the next 10 years without beeing worried of sound quality. It will not get any better (but different). I predict that some of us experienced guitarplayers will go back from modeler units to the analog/digital rack fx gear (guitar amps, tube poweramps). Everyone will build his second vintage guitar rig.
I just reactivated my G Force today. Got it in 96 and haven’t used it in a while, so you got me curious mentioning the parallel mode, could you elaborate a little on how to achieve this? I always put my ADA MP1 right through the GForce into a Rivera TVR-3 Hammer stereo power amp, for imagination. It would be great to get some advice, no TH-cam back then😅
This is a great video. I got mine sort of second hand and always wondered why my effects especially chorus & flanger weren’t that good. So after watching this video i went in and hit the FACTORY RESET and mine finally sounds this good. really ticks me off it took me 10-15 years to figure out the guy before me must have mucked some stuff up - but at least now i’m back in gear!! Thanks mate.
For modulation in your delay I would try putting the delay in a branch of the signal path (making it part of a.side chain) and then to set mix level of the delay to 100% (making it all wet signal) and create the modulation by placing another effect after it such as a detuner, vibrato, chorus or whatever. Feed the output of the sidechain back into your main signal path or keep it in l or r channel only. You can then control wet/dry of your modulated delay by changing output level of the last effect in the sidechain.
I had the pleasure of trying one directly from TC when they came out, for a month. To this day is one of my favourite pieces of kit, all these years gone by. Making a very long reverb rise one octave slowly is a very cool trick you can do with it.
@@witeshade yes. You play a note and that note rings out with a full wet reverb that goes up very slowly for a long time. It sounds like a slide guitar without the attack and tracks the crescendo flawlessly. Makes some very interesting ambient sounds. Pitty I never got the chance to try it with synths. Need to get my hands on a G Force soon to try it
This unit really reminds me of starting out and seeing the gear SERIOUS dudes players used in their rigs. This is like the Nintendo 64 and now we're on the liquid nitrogen cooled, overclocked gaming PC that is the Axe-Fx III
Crazy, my old touring rig circa 2008-2010 was a signal split a) 2ch Dual Rec, b) jmp1 > tc gmajor > fx rtn (ch1 only) Had Mullard EL34s in the Mesa for funsies
I have been a TCE guy for almost 20 years and they have been good to me. A few problems here and there but the factory service always fixed me up. I still run my old G-Major in my main live rig and have a G-Major2 in my backup rig. I have never considered replacing them and learning new tech until I discovered your channel. Now, it seems time to move on since I have you to help me setup my future Fractal unit.
Hey Leon, great video, helped me decide to go out and find a G Force unit. Would love to see a video on how you hook up all your rack stuff for recording. Thanks and keep up :-)
@@LeonTodd i don't know about the g force, but i've got the Nova system, and i use the shifter effect, with 300 ms of delay, and +/- 15 cents of detune. I don't know about the g force, but i guess it should be the same
@@LeonTodd the gforce was Indeed never made with mod delay. However There is One sole way to do this. Build a New preset with the delay and Place the chorus after it. Man this sounds amazing, so did the intellifex.Great fucking tones man. When is rack gear gonna make a comeback, i wanna see jmp 1 reissues and brand new rack effects units!!!
killer man!!killer playing,i would like hear the g-force more sounds, but you modified, very good ears man, congrats, from charlie iglesias buenos aires argentina
What's with people bitching about the converters in gear? I've seen so many reviews of fantastic, popular gear run by top end professionals where joe random forum warrior swears that the converters suck tone and they'd never be caught dead using one because it sounds like a wet sock on top of their gear, etc. It's like... really? world touring musicians use it and love it, but in your bedroom it can't even pass a clean tone in bypass? its hilarious.
well remember a lot of the world touring musicians have a profession wire up their system with mixers, switchers, etc. and just bring processors like these in/out in parallel, so they never have to run straight through it ;)
Just saw this after your recent G-force demo. The question about Delay Modulation if you put Delay block and chorus block with in parallel by putting the Delay to 100% before the chorus block you should get a mod delay.you might have figured that out by now. Also try to get a G- Card for this uniti as it has updates...Keep up the awesome demos!!
I had a similar setup like you: JMP-1, G-Major into a Engl Rackhead 850 - loved it and still do. I tried modeling stuff, but still the JMP-1 is the best in terms of responsiveness and how I can steer the tone with my playing. My G-Major starts to fell apart and I am looking for a replacement - maybe it wil be a G-Force...
Man I wish there was a modern equivalent to this in 1 or 2 rack unit height. I've thought of getting an older Axe-fx model just for effects but it seems messy to integrate with a tube pre + still a huge box for the needs...
Hi Leon, am I correct that the stereo dual delay became mono after engaging the reverb at the 10:50 mark? The manual states that the reverb mixes any stereo input into mono. Does this also includes the (effected) dry-through of the reverb? I can't seem to find any answer online, so hopefully you can provide me one..
Wow, Leon! Great to see / hear that you're bringing this classic unit back to live👍🏻 19" times rulez 🤘🏻 when your gear is almost heavy as your riffs 😉 Keep on rocking, Harry
I saw that listed but had no money. The old simpletons TC G-Sharp works ok for me and my skill level but the G-Force would open a world of possibilities. I've noticed people using older Fractal stuff now purely as their effects units in racks as I presume they are a lot more flexible and easy to program than older rack units with small screens?
The G-Force is one of the best effects processors for delay hands down super quiet you can shape the tone of the delay too match your your guitar without changing the signal from the guitar and super easy too operate , will sound just as good as any 3k one today for delay's but most of all you can easily get these for $400 used no way you will find anything today at that price too match the rich delays of the g-force one of the most dependable solid units ever made I have had mine for years still sounds like new , now the G-major is way too noisy , no comparison to the rich effects of the G-Force BUY ONE TODAY .. if you want insanely great delays and a cheap price starving musicians cannot afford 3k for the axis 2
does the G force have analog mode like the old G- Major , should I switch to the G-force I paid $100 for my G-major years ago still works great never had any issues but has no auto wah , you know how to get a wah effect out of the first g- major with a midi pedal
How about a G-Major ll? I've been wanting to pick one of those up but it seems like they've had some shutting down issues so I want to get one at a good price. Haven't seen any good reviews of it.
Forgive me I am new to this, but can I use this as a stand alone unit directly to a powered speaker and have vocal and guitar effects at the same time?
Some nice patches shown here. I've recently bought a g force (after watching this video) but i can't find any patch exchange site online. Do you know of any?
@leontodd can you help? I'm still trying to figure out why the connections aren't labeled "to loop send and to loop return". Please don't laugh, im disabled and not savvy on electronics terms. The back of my Randall Thrasher has "send and series/parallel return" ive been afraid to even try hooking this g force up in fear of frying something.
@@LeonTodd : Thanks Leon and wonderful playing brother! I also like the Yamaha REV100 and REV 7. Both cheap units but the reverbs have something to them.
