I don't see what the fuss is about the backpack. The only 2 choices you really have is self contained with some kibble or partsforming. I can live with it.
At least it doesn't have the whole alt-mode hanging off the back. It's just a bit of the flat panels, and they're folded fairly flat. I'd say this is acceptable considering the front profile is fine. How often do you pose your figs facing bass ackwards?

Reading the comments and, of course, it is the usual drivel that is spouted every time anyone reviews a Fanstoys figure. When someone is positive about the figure, the comments accuse the reviewer of being a Fanstoys fanboy, when he is negative about a Fanstoys figure, the reviewer is accused of being nitpicky and 'biased'. You cannot win when it comes to the Cult of Fanstoys.
I don't know! Am not gonna lie! I absolutely love this figure. I think Fanstoys did an amazing job! The fact that the whole trailer is combined into the Bot is incredible. Not to mention the proportions, aesthetics, sculpt and articulation are Phenomenal. Might be the figure of the year.

Fan's Toys. I generally steer clear of them. They sure do nail the bots in both modes, but getting them there..... .....I'm really liking how XTB has been coming along.
I love the aesthetic of the Fans Toys Motormaster. The hard part is the always discussion of Partsforming vs Perfect Transformation. I don't mind kibble if it looks good from the front.
Where do you think that big chunk of trailer should go when it is a one piece transformation? Unless it is like TFM's where the trailer only come into use during the combine mode. Vehicle mode scale TFM is more in line with MP10's truck mode. But robot mode is definitely the best so far. This FT version probably not suitable for you Ben.
I noticed something when you have him in robot mode. The backpack has two small tabs halfway down on either that are supposed to rotate into the torso to allow it to secure a lot better. I respect your opinion on the backpack but I really have no issue with it and would have been fine with any company doing that. After a few transformations, the panels are not as daunting as they are on your first transformation. Everything moves into place logically. A tip, when going to robot mode, do the legs first so there is more room to maneuver.
Trailer panel portion that connects to the main body should have been on a swivel. It would all the panels to go into the body, leaving the back to be the tires. Which then could have been played out more esthetically. That said, the combined mode may have a reasoning for the way they did it. Let's wait and see.
I dont have an issue at all with the design the back is fine. I think it's awesome that Fan Toys was able to build the trailor in with the figure and make it work and still make the figure attractive looking. I'm sure that engineering something like this is not an easy task by any means. I personally don't care for Menasor as the whole set but appreciate a good Fantoys release like this one, as a result I will be buying this Motor master for sure. Also I think the head sculpt is perfect I don't have an issue with it either. This version of Motor master looks alot nicer than the DX9 version personally by a solid margin.
Love the review , the feet engineering was the thing that sold me on the figure . the face swap is actually pretty easy,just pop the brim off the front and then the face,I think the reason for removing the box part is for the combined mode to put that face on.
Alt-mode is where this definitely shines. It's a gorgeous tractor-trailer. And color scheme is really superb. Robot mode. I have a different taste on G1 cartoon inspired figures. I'm beyond nostalgia so I don't find many of them appealing. And this boxbot isn't an exception.
One of the most frustrating transformations I've ever had to do, and I fought through Suraking's transformations. Getting the leg joints to fit just right and ensuring the front and back sections can actually join is extremely irritating. I don't know if I will continue with this set if all of the transformations are this insane.

The head on mine was tight too. I just had to rotate it the opposite way a few times which somehow fixed it. I don’t know how it fixed it, but it worked. Haha.
“What a mission to replace the face plate” you slide 2 panels off and pop the face off, Christ it’s a lot easier than having to unscrew the head like on many other figures including other Fanstoys ones. The head is also on a screw, so just do 1 rotation left and then it should be loose enough to swivel in both directions.
I recently got one also, AMAZING Model. There is indeed one small question, how does he eventually change to combine/ Menasor, with the 4 others upcoming. I don't see any pins our point of opening up to attach the other 4 to. Kinda strange, hahaha does anyone else have that same problem.??
I think it’s safe to say that nobody could ever accuse Ben of being a Fanstoys fanboy, a Gigapower one maybe but definitely not Fanstoys. Some of these criticisms are beyond petty.
John Graham Urm not really , at the end of the day FT are normally more expensive than other Third party products and pride them selves on perfection with there QC passes etc. That being said both my Kup, swoop and hot rod have all been sub par appearing to be more complacent than improving. I like Motormaster it’s a good looking figure BUT all my Criticisms are valid ... the head has no downward motion and he’s covered in sprew marks ??
You say covered in sprue marks, I’ll assume that they didn’t show up on the camera then because I only saw 2 possibly 3 on the back pack. Is this figure really that expensive for it’s size, maybe when compared to a Zeta figure which felt cheap to me in hand which is why I only got the first 2 aerialbots. I agree on the downward head movement and the weird option of attaching it via a screw which makes it tighten when turning right. I have this figure and overall I think it’s excellent.

Benscollectables 100% agree. Motormaster, hotrod, and Kup feel like product from 2012, not 2018/2019. Hotrod has paint that peels off from taking the cellophane off? What kinda crap is that? It happened to me. Fanstoys went from number 1 in my book to the bottom tier. Maketoys, Xtransbots, MMC all improve with each release. Fanstoys devolves. I might get their Brawn, but I really hope Maketoys or mmc announce theirs first.
If I get it from KO companies or stores that stock a majority Of KO products such as sirtoys tfdirect showz etc then it goes up on the KO channel ... official companies and stores want to be separated etc
Both DX9 and Fanstoys are out of scale tho, MM was never taller than Megs or Prime. X transbots are better to scale (So far, their MM is still coming). Seems like everyone is trying to scale to Toyworlds Devy who scales to the old masterpiece prime not the current masterpiece scale
I understand the sponsors don’t like to share space, but it does make things confusing. I might be wrong, but I don’t think any other reviewers separate their channels. I preferred it when obvious real ko’s were in the ko channel and all other product was in the regular channel. That just my personal opinion though. Ben is free to do what he likes.
Ben sometimes I think you're inside my head about some of these figures. I think roadking looks awesome in alt mode effectively perfect except 4the excessive use of panels on the trailer, no consistent purple lines. Yes I like cartoon consistent design elements, but not hyper toon boring . The paint was a little disappointing I expected more of fanstoys for motormaster the leader. I went with XTB anyway
what a rip off...far too complicated and way over priced...no combiner parts and NOT even shown how to transform it into combined mode in the instructions ...also the cab transformation looks fragile....and fans toys are not the be all and end all of 3rd party transformers...people really need to stop looking at this company through rose tinted glasses as if they are perfect..they are Far from perfect.

I absolutely love this figure and enjoy transforming it! It’s become quite easy and pleasant for me and I’ll be buying another to display in alt mode.

You don’t have to take any screws out to change the face it’s just take off front cube, back cube, fore head in tabs and un-tab face

Sometimes rotating the head clockwise tightens the screw. You can loosen it from underneath. Also the face swap doesn’t require unscrewing

Ben the point is the head is molded exactly identical to the G-1 head is the reason being.
Actually just take the forehead off and then the facesculpt comes off, don’t gotta mess with any screws
