  • This machine came in as a difficult starter, which also was not charging. In this clip, we see how the clutch was dealt with, as well as the discovery of the plain plates having not been fitted correctly. We also have some early signs of life from the charging system. Most of the mechanical noise heard is from the gears driving the Magdyno, this is heard on a good few old R.E. singles, although the camera mic makes it sound much louder than it actually is!

Again top job, mate. I'm afraid I'm dumbfounded dynamos, magnetos, et al. Anything electrical is witchcraft to me!!!

Simple fix but often the best ones are both with the clutch and the dynamo but it does make the difference between a running and useable machine and a pile of scrap... nice work..

I love the model G, particularly the later one, with the front mudguard that travels up and down with the wheel.. they just looked so much better than the earlier raised fixed mudguard.

You certainly get some interesting bikes at your place Paul, I like the added pressure plate with the extra springs, very ingenious, is that one of your mods you did for the racing Enfieds?

Hi Dave and thanks. That is just a later upgrade part by RE, which can be retro fitted to older models which didn't have them.

Would that 6 spring plate work with the lighter springs that Hitchcocks have for the Indian 350 clutches? Might improve the clutch action.

Looks like the rear plate to make contact acts as a spring?

No, or at least it shouldn't, but with the flat plate in first, it probably would have flexed and sprung to a degree, while not gripping on the friction material in the drum.
