I made a bowling ball with James Bruton where it will steer left and right depending on how you lean. People lean anyways when the bowl to try and influence the direction so we just capitalized on that. It operates on the same principles of a BB8 ball.

As someone who works at a bowling alley and is about to start bowling on league, I’m not entirely sure how I’d react if someone came to my work with this sort of equipment.
There’s probably nothing in the rule book about it…yet.

it would be difficult to match the weight of a real bowling ball with do much empty space inside I think...
at the very least, it would be obvious by just picking it up hopefully

@@uniquename6925nah; just use a heavier material to compensate. As long as the center of mass is held in place at around the same place as a bowling bowl, it shouldn't be obvious unless there's a seam. Source: am engineering student

As someone who bowls straight only, I'd say 3:30 also depends on factors of velocity and angle. I've gotten strikes relying on that method at various styled lanes. I would be positioned at the edge sometimes, but I'd make sure it's angled enough to have the power make up for the rest of the speed needed. Granted it's not consistent, but I have gotten 4 strikes in a row, so I'd say it's a fine method.

Or just move over to where the sweet spot is then bowl straight from there that’s the best way for beginners
the "not consistent" part here is key. you were getting a bit lucky with things like messenger pins or pins just flailing around after being hit so hard. You aren't going to control them but they often times can breakdance in the lane or other things to knock down the pins that approach tends to fail to knock down.

this is amazing but im curious, how do you allign the axis of rotation of the ball and the axis of the counterweight when youre bowling with it?
It's the positioning and shape of the heavy mass, it will want to roll a certain way given those properties. There are great videos out there about bowling ball physics and how they curve differently depending on how the ball is made

I’d gladly play him for a $1000 a game. This isn’t ending any professional bowlers career. An RC ball doesn’t have the weight and can’t create the ball speed required to strike on a consistent basis. Neat to be sure, but you’re giving it far to much credit.
