Honey Ham vs. Watermelon "Ham"
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 29 ก.ย. 2024
- There's nothing like a good spiral ham. Now, if given the option between ham and most other meats, I'd probably choose the others. But there's something special about a caramelized, well-glazed honey ham. You'll likely buy this pre-cooked, and all you have to do to bring it to the next level is mix a few common ingredients together to make something truly special.
But what about vegans? Not to worry. I've also made a watermelon "ham." And you might ask, why on earth would anybody EVER turn a ham into a watermelon, but don't knock it til' you try it. This is one of those things that sounds a bit odd, even looks incredibly weird, but somehow...kinda works. It's soft, juicy, slices just like meat and almost has the texture of raw fish the more your watermelon dehydrates. So, so unique.

Yeah, no. The watermelon idea has a good root. but it's execution is just not there. I get that imitation is the highest form of flattery, but i reckon making watermelon ham a sweet dish with a honey and anis glaze would fair much nicer.

Quite an interesting recipe :) Of course when it comes to regular ham, there's nothing to talk about, it looks (and probably tastes) great, but as for watermelon ... First of all, in my opinion any attempts of this type are a bit pointless - vegan or vegetarian food can be (and very often is!) really delicious, but to be like that, it does not have to pretend to be meat - and why should it? However, if I were to prepare this "watermelon ham", I would probably approach it a bit differently :) First of all, you used a lot of sugar and sweet, fruity flavors (like oranges), which I think watermelon already has. I'd rather go for meat-like flavors, adding a load of umami to it - like the Worcestershire sauce you used. Maybe soy sauce? A bit of intense dried mushrooms or their extract or dried ones? Maybe miso or tomato paste, which in a glaze could work quite well :) I think all of them will add a lot of that meaty, rich flavour that watermelon is lacking by default. I would rather not try to make this recipe, but if I did, I would go this way :) These umami boosters would play nicely with spices, and a good watermelon has probably enough sugar :) Also, as you said, I would leave it in refigerator for some time to dry up and concetrate this sugars and taste a bit before cooking :) Anyway, interesting episode, you get a subscription from me and keep it up! :D Cheers!

Nick, love your channel. In fact in my eyes it's surpassed she am the cooking guy and Guga. I want to agree yet disagree with your American wagyu versus Japanese wagyu segment. I think you would do yourself Justice and get a lot of likes if you were to visit Joseph Dequis farm in Columbia City Indiana. You will need an entire day just to tour the farm and see how special it is. Besides raising 100% Japanese wagyu, they raise mangalista hogs, goats, chickens or anything else you can think of. It is a true farm to fork restaurant. The produce they produce on the restaurant, 6 mi away in Roanoke Indiana, is ridiculous. If you don't believe me check out some TH-cam videos. You'll need one day just for the farm itself because it's overwhelming and even probably have you speechless. The second day just for the restaurant. If you decide to go on this journey, they have the Joseph Dequis bed and breakfast right in Roanoke four blocks from the restaurant. Or if you prefer you could stay at the homestead which is right across the street from the farm, sleeps up to 12 people. It would be cool to have a response from you, I requested you as a friend online a few hours ago. I think this might be the best two or three days that you don't even realize it's right here in little old Indiana. Best for guards, Aaron clay
How about poking some holes into the melon to get rid of more water from the inside? prob helps with gettin marinade inside as well
Now try it with mustard
I ate ham and plaine bread for more than a year every morning.
