    Wow! I unfortunately have no use for this, but seeing this level of testing and information from a channel other than GN or LTT is incredible!
    Just looking over your channel it's sad to see how little views most of your videos get!

      I could make your words mine, I love doing this stuff myself as well, you should try it, just messing around with hardware for fun is a good way to spend your time, you'll learn a few things. c:

    Great detailed video, as always ! I discovered your channel when I was choosing my RTX 30xx card 1.5 years ago and your videos helped me quite a bit !
    I noticed a mistake in the "%age difference" bar-plots at 4:00 and 7:40 : the 1st "power difference" bar is correct (18.75%), but the 2nd and 3rd are wrong (should be 31.58% and 56.25% respectively, not 47.37 and 75).
    I think I remember seeing a theoretical result that states that multiplying a clock-rate by X requires multiplying the power by (at least) X², which seems to match with your benchmarks results.

    This is great, thanks. I use an acer Nitro 5 3060 laptop as the main PC for my off grid solar lifestyle. It's always plugged into external devices, so it's docked. I've been wanting to do more to get more out of it since I got it. I use a direct DC line from my lifepo battery array instead of the power brick that shipped with the machine. It's always plugged in. So because of that, there is no limit to how much power I can supply to the machine. This is my first gaming PC since 2005, and I've learned a lot from it. I don't play FPS or anything, I got it as a replacement for a PS5 to play Japanese games like Elden Ring, Death Stranding and Final Fantasy. It's been great, but already looking to the future where I will want a 4070 or 3070 ti laptop someday, but first I'll definitely try this.

    Thank you for this video, after not even knowing that there were different 3060 mobile variants, to having to hunt down the wattage on google rabbit hole trips since many product pages don't even list the wattage, to reading random users make blanket statements like the "full power" 125-130w 3060 "destroy" the lower wattage ones, this was both comforting and informative to watch/read. Due to sciatica and neck/back problems and nerve damage, sitting at my pc desk for extended periods of time causes fatigue/pain, I've really been wanting to chill out in my bed on a laptop and be able to game as well. Considering a decent 6 core 12 thread ryzen 5 laptop with a 95w 3060 gpu and 8gb ram I'll upgrade cheaply to 16gb for the task. Should be good for quite some years to come at only 1080p, especially with DLSS becoming more common or AMD's FSR as well. Father time has not be kind to my couple year old budget Acer Nitro 5 laptop I got on sale in 2018 (it was a 2017 model I believe...) with only 4 core 4 thread i5 7300HQ and 4gb 1050 gpu. I heard the meltdown/spectre patches hit older cpu particularly hard too. Even Fortnite or Dead by Daylight is a stuttery mess with input delays I can feel on the poor old 4 thread i5. It was actually way more of a bottleneck than only initially having 8gb ram, doubling it to 16gb didn't help due to the cpu not being able to keep up anymore.

    it`s nice to know you can beat a 3070 (i have one of those at 95-100 watts) and it`s sad to see other companies don`t deliver better bioses for their laptops (hp and acer)

    • @Anggelos876
      @Anggelos876 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't think it is a "better bios" situation. The aim of the manufacturer is stability. Customers would be angry if the tdp was too high and cooling does not match and there was pure instability. Also the gains may not be worth it.
      But we as cuaumers can take the risk.

    • @doomslayer8985
      @doomslayer8985 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not better bios, the TDP is adjusted by thermal capabilities of the laptop, for example a thin laptop will usually use 80W tdp cause it's small, thin and the fans aren't as bulky, meanwhile in the other hand, a big, heavy laptop will support up to 130W TDP

    Why do you think the laptop 3060 doesn't scale the same with power as the desktop 3060? It seems the laptop 3060 at 125 watts does almost as well as the desktop at 170 watts. Is the laptop GPU running closer to the limits of the silicon like an undervolt? Also, the desktop 3060 at 100 watts loses a ton of performance.

    • @OTechnology
      @OTechnology  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes Nvidia picked the best chips for the laptop version to be able to run at more optimal efficiency. Actually you can check the specs and the laptop version literally has more cores enabled than the desktop version. So it can run at lower clocks and get similar performance.

    • @Chaos_-_
      @Chaos_-_ ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe if it pulls 150w combined gpu + cpu. There is no mobile rtx 3060 to pull 150w alone . It must be an error or something, especially if its stuck at 150.1 must be an error

    • @cuttyscustomdubs553
      @cuttyscustomdubs553 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      More vram can't be soldered in, it doesn't work like that unfortunately. Having a perfectly good gpu turns obsolete when games start calling for more vram. That's why there's a lot of controversy with the 3060 ti - 3070 ti desktop gpus being only 8gb. Had there been more vram available these cards would have a much longer life span

    • @benperkins2929

      @cuttyscustomdubs553 ปีที่แล้ว

      @benperkins2929 I agree that it has been done, but there's a lot more to it than just soldering it in. I'm assuming op wants to only solder in the memory and get the results, which would be an easy task, and everyone would do it to achieve more vram on their GPU.

      @benperkins2929 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @s8JTD

      Vbios controlls the power consumption and it is possible for your RTX 3060 (95W) to go 140W (Max power) but it will stabilize around 95W and will not continue to consume 140W continuously.
