Watched Gary Ryan play this piece twice live and it even better live. Not only does he remember his own pieces as complex as this, but also other insanely complex pieces composed by others. A truly skilled musician!
I didn't know this guitarist before I saw him in some video of trinity college. I don't know how it's possible he's not famous as others, he has a rare precision and tecnique. Absolutely stunning. Congrats 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Gary's performance in the 2020 Vision concert at the Bolivar Hall on 24th June was only surpassed when he London Premiered his new composition "Benga Beat"; a true master at one with his instrument drawing in his audience with suble colour expositions of complex cross rhythms and tonal inflections that had quality and crispness. His use of every percussionist part of the guitar astounds. This is another groundbreaking composition and in my mind ranks alongside "Generator". Simply brilliant.
This person is the best. I passed my Grade 8 certification with a “distinction” by just “following” his gestures and practicing less. That helped me inculcate a belief that I “can” and I just nailed it.
With this composition, Gary Ryan's classical guitar gains an important expansion of its technical and compositional possibilities, preserving the classical form and the pleasant conduction of themes and harmonies, which also makes it accessible to the lay public. Congratulations for the genius of this work, and much more, for the perfection of its accomplishment.

I recently rediscovered this again after hearing it a decade ago. I listen to it often: I can't explain why but it makes me incredibly happy. Something about the rhythms and the seeming simplicity of the thing (although I'm sure it's anything but..) What a wonderful gift!
What? Seeming simplicity? Have you ever tried playing guitar? I am 30 now, played since my 8th bday. 0 chance I can do this

Haha! Well that’s what I meant. Masters make complicated things look simple. It’s very elegant, clean sounding and all just falls into place (seemingly effortlessly.) I stand by my comment 😜
3 years already since I had a masterclass with Mr Ryan and saw him play this amazing composition live. Such a fantastic performer and great teacher. Still blown away each time I watch this video!
Everything comes together here: Soulful playing - Extreme technique - Rhithmically perfect - Very good sound - A beautiful composition. And a great guitar of Stephen Hill that does justice to the former mentioned items!
I wish he played rainbow because I have the cassette but no cassette player. Rainbow was a song my grandma would sing in the car sometimes. It is one of my fondest memories of her. Maybe he will see this and play rainbow. Thanks Mr. Ryan for blessing us with your gift of sound.
Saw this live at a six hands guitar trio concert. Definitely the most amazing evening ever. And this piece... if you ever have the opportunity to see it played live - TAKE IT!!!
I think this is wonderful and so unlike most classical guitar repertoire. I also notice the way he adjusts his right hand to get funky, nearer to the bridge with less of an arched position. I also love the singing, such a shock somehow to hear a classical player just singing. Magnificent!
Ran out of words on my last rant but just had to say what a stunning piece of music this is. Such a feast for the ears and senses. Not only that, its a remarkable performance from an obvious, genuine virtuoso, a man who truly lives up to that over used term. Finally, congrats to the video team, sound and light and setting are superb.
It's incredible how he doesn't miss a note, not ONE sound is wrong. He remembered all of this. That is a lot to remember. I wonder how much time it took him..
I have no words......this is. FANTASTIC, INCREDIBLE!, a mix of rthythms and wonderfull melodies that create a great dialogue between Gary and the public....It´s like an evolution of Andrew York´s music. Thanks you!
This is really marvellous, and so impressive !!!... It's gonna be quite hard to put my lazy fingers on my guitars, after this incredible demonstration. The most important thing is... : more than his perfect and stunning technic, Gary Ryan gives us emotion and colourful escape. So, thank you, great Artist-Man ! :)
Wow! What a fantastic piece of guitar mastery. I aspire to be able to play like this but am absolutely blown away by the fluid technicality of Gary's playing. What an inspiration. Stunning!!!!!
+Angelo Groot Hi Angela, not too sure what Gary is up to at the moment, but he won't be at the Sandwich Festival which starts on 1st October. Apart from workshops they've got quite a line up including Martin Simpson, Thomas Ford, Femi Temowa, Shaun Murray and Craig Ogden. You can visit Facebook/Sandwich Guitar Festival for more info. or contact laura@yellowstone-events.co.uk.
Angelo Groot - he is a full-time professor at one of the London conservatoires, so isn't touring constantly. But he does have some gigs scheduled for late spring 2017 alongside John Williams and John Etheridge.
We have so much enjoyed hearing you play this wonderful composition this afternoon at the University of Surrey Guitar Day and we'll be back this evening to hear more :-)
I absolutely love this! I've worked out just a small section from 6:35 to 6:56 - only a snippet but it fills me with irrepressible joy every time I play it. I can't wait for the score to become available.
Very well done Gary, a truly inspiring work of composition and performance. It's just so damn catchy! I look forward to the score appearing on your website with your other fine works.
This is amazing playing. What an artist. The composition is fantastic too. I am proud to know Gary!! I knew maestro Andres Segovia quite well and I can say that Gary is even better. He will go to history as one the best guitar players ever!! Congratulations Gary. You are just great. With admiration,Marisa Robles.
This is badass. Wow. Almost a unique style of playing; I haven't heard anything quite like this before. This is like one of those guys who beats on their guitars, except he seems to be classically trained. Completely changes the dynamic; much more precision. Also, why the hell isn't this on Apple Music?? Where can I get listen to this on the go?
I'm quite sure history will not do that. It's a pleasant tune made into an extremely difficult 'showpiece' which is an amazing spectacle to watch but ultimately quite forgettable.
@pederfi Absolutely. A great piece, wonderfully played. Haha, I've just caught the finger snap at 0.29! For me, it is vital for virtuosi like this all to have a sense of humour about their work. Thumbs up, as you say.
Wonderfull to hear one of my guitars being played so amazingly. Great pieces by Gary. One of the best!
Absolutely!

I discovered him at a brussels conservatory. Yeah he deserve something like Andrew York renommée obviously.
This is a ridiculously well composed and performed piece of music.

Was lucky enough to see him play this live last night in the Acapela Studio, Pentyrch. Couldn't believe it. Brought the house down. Incredible.
Me too

Absolute facts, I agree
PS:*rhythmically
The best of the best. And now rightly head of strings at the Royal College of Music in London. How lucky they are to have him.

Wow. Just wow. Thank you - what a wonderful addition to our repertoire and performed with such incredible virtuosity.
That guitar sounds angelic.
Would be nice to extract that sound...
Love to watch this over and over.
Clearly a top world class guitarist with any style of music !.
Saw this live at a six hands guitar trio concert. Definitely the most amazing evening ever. And this piece... if you ever have the opportunity to see it played live - TAKE IT!!!
I love this. Such a unique piece of music. Totally brilliant!
Briliant!! One of the best performances I have ever seen in this genre.

This guy is my inspiration. So glad to have had so much feedback from him, he seems a great teacher as well as a fantastic player
Saw Gary play this today, was fantastic live!

I reckon you've practised that. Wondrous. Thank you.
Mesmerising technique and stunning composition.
It's incredible how he doesn't miss a note, not ONE sound is wrong. He remembered all of this. That is a lot to remember. I wonder how much time it took him..
He is amazing! Can't believe I've had this guy judge me at a festival before and saw him perform this very piece!
I have no words......this is. FANTASTIC, INCREDIBLE!, a mix of rthythms and wonderfull melodies that create a great dialogue between Gary and the public....It´s like an evolution of Andrew York´s music. Thanks you!
I am a fan after one listen. Brilliant!
This is so beautiful. I love the music and its percussion

===== Whoaaaa ===== Love the percussion work and technical skills on the guitar. =======
Most wonderful! The Stephen Hill guitar sounds good!
That is mayhaps the most surprisingly amazing thing I've seen on TH-cam. Nycce.
Thrilling! Thank you for a wonderful evening of music at the Boliver Hall.
Well, that's one way to show off just what a guitar can do in the right hands! Amazing.
Bellissima composizione. Finalmente una boccata d'aria fresca per il nostro nobile strumento.
A very beautiful piece of music and the voice adds another dimension.
I can't stop watching this - it is utterly brilliant!
Had the opportunity to listen this song performed by Piraí Vaca some weeks ago. I didn’t knew the song, I was blown away!
fantastic, superb, I'm in love with this piece of MUSIC!
People this brilliant make the rest believe maybe we CAN do more than what we are able to do now. Truly inspiring.
jaw on the floor. wow.
Wow! What a fantastic piece of guitar mastery. I aspire to be able to play like this but am absolutely blown away by the fluid technicality of Gary's playing. What an inspiration. Stunning!!!!!
Brilliant. There's a Gary Ryan piece in the Grade 5 syllabus by the way ;-)
This guy's functioning at a high level of musical creativity. In other words he is damned good.
The Master! Heard Gary playing this at the Sandwich Guitar Festival a couple of weeks ago. Really hope to see him there again next year!
+SpexSava790 where is this festival? I'd really like to see Gary live!

Magnficent ! love all those extended techniques put into play TY
I just bought the sheet music. By the looks of it, it'll take some time to get this one flowing.. ^.^
Did you manage by now?
Nah, not really. This one will take some time. Mr. Ryans compositions can be tricky but very playable at the same time. I'll get there.
Have u managed?
Have you managed now? Would love to see a video of what you've got down so far
@Luke Nah, I had to give in. It's a combination of not having enough hours to put in but mostly; I'm just not gifted enough ^.^

Interesting composition with some acoustic guitar techniques, well played.
Hahah this is so cool! I just went to see him live too yesterday and it was definitely cooler hearing it in the same room!

Great piece Gary !
Extraordinary!
Wow, wundervoll und inspirierend. Ein sagenhaftes Beispiel von intelligentem Spielwitz und Virtuosität!
Well - that's made me realise what an amateur hack I am! Superb performance. Bravo.
Brilliant.
History will place him along with Tarrega, Sor, Guilliani, Carcassi, Carulli and Segovia.
I'm quite sure history will not do that. It's a pleasant tune made into an extremely difficult 'showpiece' which is an amazing spectacle to watch but ultimately quite forgettable.
@@allan2098 you are joking right

This is absolutely amazing!
the capture is fantastic
This was cool piece indeed. Reminds of Badi Assad.
@pederfi Absolutely. A great piece, wonderfully played. Haha, I've just caught the finger snap at 0.29! For me, it is vital for virtuosi like this all to have a sense of humour about their work. Thumbs up, as you say.
Amazing!! Great performance!
Best wishes,
Kei
Outstanding!
Simply great! ;)
Amazing! !!!
Thanks a lot.
Just incredible.....
Just fantastic! Some parts sound reminiscent of Bensusan.
Mike
I actually love this
Beautiful . . .
I was lost in this, so good
Makes me realise how much I still need to learn as a composer.
Awesome Gary!
this is so amazing
fantastic. could of made 3-4 songs out of all the little melodies going on. just love it, a total showcase piece.
Excelente, algún día llegare a su nivel
