Scariest thing on this one is number 3. I don't believe the spine and the crayons were unrelated at all. See, if the spine was the size of a dog's, I think it might as well have been the size of a child's. Plus crayons, in the attic? Seems like someone was keeping a child there and wanted them to keep quiet.
