I've been to the Myrtles Plantation. Was waiting on a tour to start, and was looking around the property whilst doing so. We were walking down an area with several doors leading into the house and we heard a click and creak of one opening as we walked by. Walked inside and it was a room that nobody was in. We quickly exited and shortly after we informed an employee of the place that the door unlocked and opened. The guy said thanks, locked the door and said yeah, that happens often. The place is definitely active!

Your entry on Myrtles misses the biggest story about the property. A judge who owned the plantation when slavery was legal lost his wife Sarah and his two children when the slave girl he was raping became concerned that she would lose her position as a house servant (if he got tired of her) poisoned a cake and fed it to the judge's family, with the intention of nursing them back to health. Instead, Sarah and the children died and they and the slave girl have all been seen as ghosts on the property. How can you miss the main haunting story for this location?

Jesseca Alvarez-Kuykendall, you neglected to mention that Chloe (that was the slave-girl's name) was hanged from a tree that stood near the house by the outraged surviving family members & other slaves. There was another theory regarding Chloe, she was said to be the Governess of the children & their father's mistress! There's a story that she eavesdropped on a business meeting being conducted by visitors to the plantation & her employer attacked her & cut off 1 of her ears for the spying. This was said to have prompted her to cook the poisoned cake.
The dull truth never gets in the way of a good story.
The wife and kids actually died from yellow fever in 1823 and 1824 and one of the kids, Mary Octavia, who supposedly died from poison was found to have lived until adulthood. The family is also recorded to not have owned any slaves, let alone one named Chloe. If the sightings of Chloe are true, then Chloe is not from that time period and can be an entirely different entity. I've been told from those who go on the Myrtle tour that some of the guides debunk the Chloe story because of records stating the opposite. Not sure if they're really supposed to do that or not.
The only confirmed death on the property was William Winter but there's a lot of speculation on how it happened with the whole stair debate.
He totally missed the real Myrtles story, the story of Cloe the slave who murdered the children with Oleander. She was hanged on a tree in front of the house. She is the alleged ghost seen in the most common photo of the house.
I have some books by an investigator named Troy Taylor, and he says he cannot find anything in any historical records to substantiate the existence of Chloe. So it is a mystery, and a legend.
petmom ful I'm glad you added this! So many stories are just that, but the stories can be so much creepier than historical evidance.
The story of Chloe is that her "master" would rape her and "favored" her and as a result the lady of the house would treat her badly so when the children fell ill and were found to have been poisoned with said Oleander, it was assumed it was done by Chloe who was then hanged in the front yard despite constant protesting that she was responsible.

Yes Chloe had a huge part to do with the History..when i worked on the Nat Geo special at Myrtles we were told she poisoned the Family as well

When I first heard chill's voice I was wondering why he sounds like that. Now I can't get enough of it and always like any video he talks in.

Why do you talk like that. It's a very sing song monotone kind of manner. Can make an appealing story sound silly...just my opinion however. At first I wasn't sure if he had a disability of some kind.
Tony Sherrod I was told that he has a vocal issue caused by an illness that causes his voice to have that tone. Not something that can be helped.

I worked on the Natl Geo Special..Ghosts of the Bayou in the late 80s..it was about the Myrtlrs Plantation...the place is very active

I did a tour of the rose hall plantation!! And despite the eerie atmosphere IT WAS SO BEAUTIFULLY OPULENT!! annie palmer's bedroom was my personal favorite

Oh man that was unexpected.... I live a few towns over from there our family actually has ties to Salmesbury hall, as well as a family member actually living there as one of the Lords and Ladies many many many years ago! I can vouch for it being incredibly creepy, local schools go there for school trips and I'm very happy to see it on this list! Thank you Dylan!

TOO LATE I visited it years ago. XD That mirror creeps me out.
As I'm excited that the monte cristo house finally made it into a top 15 list of haunted house on a TH-cam video and to get number one is awesome and I super happy about that I'm just at little sad you didn't talk about it more I've been waiting so long for it to get some recognition. It actually has so many more story's and deaths and it's truly scary but I should be happy that it finally made one of these list and made it number one.
And what's really great is that you can stay at the monte cristo house overnight haha my parents did and they definitely experienced some things. One day I will go and stay the night. But the only downside is that the ghosts deleted most of the photos my parents took my parents said that they took so many photos on this one camera and when they got home their was only one phone on that camera and it was an extremely buggy photo first it was a full black image that later when I checked it half the images came through and the other half was black with a line of read through it haha just disappointing that so many photos went missing
And you didn't even say why the boy was set on fire. He worked in the stable and one day he got so sick he couldn't work or even get out of bed and his boss mr crowley didn't believe him so when the boy was sleeping mr crowley set him on fire but since the boy was so sick he couldn't even move so he just burn alive in his bed

i stayed 2 nights at 15. loved it!!! orbs out the wazoo. the staff won't stay overnight. no tv's but heard voices all night

I went there and was soooooo disappointed in the tour. Maybe because there was so much hype and then you go and its.... idk. Just a strange house. The windows were pretty though. Maybe it was the robotic tour guide we had who was extremely peppy and ruined the ominous feeling i wanted. Haha.

I live in Australia and have been pretty keen on going to the Monte Cristo for a while now, I'm a pretty big believer in the paranormal and literally live for this shit. You should do a countdown of the most haunted places in Australia - there is a quarantine station in Manley (New South Wales) where settlers were brought in on ships and a fair amount of them never made it out of there alive. I visited it and did a tour of the grounds at night and it is freaky as all hell, but really interesting. My family and I all walked away with different creepy experiences and I think it would find a nice little spot on the top 15 haunted places in Australia 😁

As a paranormal investigator I can say hauntings are all around us there is no location on earth that is the most haunted its just not true. Some of the most unlikely locations have a lot of energy due to past events.

100% correct. My house is just as haunted as Gettysburg and Eastern State Pen -even more so unfortunately. Did you know... if you audio record from your phone in your house for a minute or 2 and it's quiet you will ALWAYS pick up evps? It's true. Most of them are the feisty little demon types but sometimes if you're lucky you'll pick up residual ones. Most people have average hearing ability, average speakers and headphones. That's why most people can't even begin to hear them, and if they do, they don't hear them accurately.
