I picked up a tip from TH-camr Felix Immler on how to prevent your Fire Ant tinder from fraying and getting worn out by going in and out of your pocket all the time. Go to any hardware store and pick up some heat shrink wire covering, it comes in a varity of sizes and colors, pick out the size you need that will slip over the Fire Ant Ferro rod, tinder, and corkscrew of your Swiss Army knife and then heat it up using a heat gun, blowdryer, or flame until it shrinks snuggly around it. It works great and your tinder spiral will last much longer.

Thanks for watching! Great tip! I'm pinning this one. Went out and saw the vid, was solid advice for preventing the fire ant from fraying 👍

I saw that too... ended up using a little strip of gorilla tape though... easier to apply and remove as needed :)

I have the same one you forgot to say that the flat screwdriver blocks when you push it, goes inside and blocks

I got this for 2 reasons. 1. A 3D Philipps is too useful to not have, but I have been to multiple occasions where a wine bottle needed opening and I happened to have an SAK w/corkscrew handy, so now I have both. 2. I get the inline Philipps while having an arguably more useful shared layer tool than the magnifying glass I never use, and said glass also seems to magically attract more lint and dirt buildup than any other tool. Basically it's a better Explorer, for my uses. Though I do miss the small blade and hook.

Yeah it really comes down to the tools you think you'll use most often. That was the biggest amount of research I did before picking one up for EDC. Thanks for watching!

I wished they'd have included a second smaller knife blade instead of the nail file.

Great video thanks. Great knife 🔪.
    Cap lifter locks I think.

A very versatile knife! I actually bought a mini Ferro rod that fits in the place of the toothpick. A multi tool is good to have for an edc.

Thanks for watching Dan! I saw those but couldn't think of which one I'd drop for it. I would actually drop the tweezers before the toothpick 🤣 I've heard the toothpick is the least used but I've used it and find the tweezers to be a bit flimsy.

Do you carry it in your pocket, or pouch on the belt?

I go side of pocket using the clip 👍

Does it come with the cliff? Also, nice review, New subscriber. @@DaveOffGrid

Great knife. What is the wrist watch you are wearing, looks really nice

Thanks for watching! It's the Garmin Instinct (non-solar). Great watch! I use it for navigation and tracking my hikes! Highly recommend. I also made a video on how to load .gpx files to the watch for turn by turn directions when you don't have cell service.

Nice review! Definitely a fair assessment. Do you think you'd use the firestarter a lot or is that an okay loss if it quits working?

    • @DaveOffGrid
      @DaveOffGrid  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks for watching snackbox! I'm jazzed about using this as part of my edc! Already used a bunch of the tools. Tbh I may bring the fire starter along as a novelty for car camping trips but practically will hopefully never need to use it. I have seen that you can get at least 100 fires started with this tiny ferro rod however. It's pretty impressive!

@DaveOffGrid good to use one for practice with Fire Ant and keep new one for emergency. I store a toothpick under the wood saw metal saw so I still have one after getting a FireFly ferro rod. The toothpick will not fall out unless I open both together at same time. I use toothpick for lots of stuff.

The Philips screwdriver on the knife doesn't lock it is only the blade that locks. The Philips head is designed so that it is harder to close than the other tools.

I have a similar model and the lock release sometimes catches on loose threads in my pocket. My solution was to get a case that attaches to my belt.

@@DaveOffGridthe fancy leather sheath that has the sharpening steel fits the EvoGrip s557 and other SAK's like the Handyman.
