I feel like the echoey quiet at the end of the song is a metaphor for the canary in the coalmine. You can hear a bird tweeting, normal at first, and then increasingly choked, strangled tweets accompanied by the light yet frantic and helpless flapping of tiny wings before the last verse. Do with it what you will, but that realization MOVED me. 😢

The lyrics...God those lyrics...and Joel’s voice. The musicianship is perfect, everything is perfect. Yea I cried, they detailed everything out in sound that I have been going through recently, thoughts I thought no one else had ever had.
