      Oh that was so nice to hear, this definitely made my day 👌. Just let me know if there is anything else i could help you with in the future. I have a bunch of videos coming up about job hunting in Finland that im sure your daughter will find helpful especially when applying for her first jobs (e.g. for a summer job next year). Im also planning on releasing a full length job hunting course somewhere around new years. The idea of the course is to give a super comprehensive look into the finnish job market, job hunting, employment contracts etc.. and im sure that its going to be super useful for every international student applying for a job in Finland. Im partnering with an old colleague of mine who is extremely experienced in hiring young university students and i hope that this course would help your daughter get a job on the first go 🙂.

    Hey bro. Nice video. I wanted to ask some questions. I am studying in Malaysia as an International student in Civil Engineering. Are there any possibilities that I can transfer my credits to any Universities that is situated in Finland? I am studying in a English based Program. Also can I get a scholarship too? How is the tuition fee there for international students as I am not an EU citizen...

      Hey Ayushi and thanks for the comment. There are a bunch of videos on my channel that i would recommend you to start with. Applying to study in Finland is a wide topic and you would need to be a bit more specific in your question for me to be able to help you. So what i recommend you to do is the following: watch all the videos in these two playlists
      1. Want to study in Finland? Start here: th-cam.com/play/PLz4mqtlQagDzO2SS52m1jTPpAKr9UtqSb.html
      2. University admission in Finland: th-cam.com/play/PLz4mqtlQagDwFSUbGnaC22qZeWHqu0pJh.html
      Im sure that you have already seen some of these videos but i still recommend that you check them out. After you have watched a video, please write as detailed questions as you can into the comments of each video. I will give you as comprehensive answers as i can to each topic. Id love to help you out but watching those videos first will help me out in that i dont have to write an essay about topics that ive already gone through in these videos 😄. I hope you understand.

      Hey Mustafa and thanks so much for the great question. This is actually something that i have not looked into but my understanding is that unless you have dual citizenship, you cant get an exemption from the tuition. However, as i mentioned, i have not looked into this and i recommend that you contact any of the public universities in Finland to check directly from them. They will know the answer to this for sure.

      If this diploma would give you the right to apply for a bachelor's degree in your own country, yes you should also be able to apply for a bachelors in Finland. In terms of the cost of studying in Finland, each university has their own tuition fees so you need to refer to the websites of those universities that you are interested in.

    Hey Oliver, thank for the awesome video. I'm a European college student in the US but I'd like to do a exchange program in Finland, not move or earn a degree in Finland. How does it work? Would I have tuition free because I'm from Europe even if I'm a student living in the US? How do I look for those programs? Thank you again!

    • @RoadtoFinnish
      @RoadtoFinnish  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Rafaela and thanks for the great question! Exchange programmes never have any kind of a tuition separate tuition fees because they should be a part of your degree programme at your home university (in this case the college you are going to in the US). The way that exchange programmes work depends on the school that you are going to. Most universities and colleges around the world have a bunch of partner schools that are a part of their exchange programmes. How this works is that you apply for an exchange programme through your college's own exchange programme. So you need to start the process by figuring out how the exchange system works and whether or not your college is partnering with any schools in Finland.
      Does this make any sense? 😁

    • @RoadtoFinnish
      @RoadtoFinnish  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey and thanks for the question. Unfortunately there is no way around this. This is indeed an issue especially if you plan to accumulate the funding for the next year by working during the previous one. This is why i advice not to do this because it is rather difficult to accumulate the necessary funds during the previous year in order to pay the tuition fee in one instalment.

    hey oilver, is it possible after completing my master's degree to get permanent work permit in finland and become permanent resident?

    • @RoadtoFinnish
      @RoadtoFinnish  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Hey and thanks for the great question! You are not guaranteed to get a permanent residence permit but graduating from a finnish university is a great first step towards permanent residency. Heres a bit more information about how this works:
      Im sure that you are aware of this but when you get admitted to study in Finland you need to apply for a _residence permit for studies_. When you get close to graduation, you can apply for two types of residence permits. If you dont have a job at the time of graduation you can apply for an extended (1 year) residence permit in order to look for a job. If you find a job within that one year period you can apply for a residence permit for work. On the other hand, if you already have a job at the time of graduation you should apply for a _residence permit application for person with a degree completed in Finland_. After working for x amount of years in Finland full-time you are able to apply for a permanent residence. Do note that each of these permits are considered individually so the information on the Finnish immigration services website is a bit vague. However, here are the links to all the relevant pages you should check out:
      - Residence permit for studies: migri.fi/en/studying-in-finland
      - Extended residence permit to search for a job: migri.fi/en/extended-permit-to-look-for-work
      - Residence permit based on a degree completed in Finland: migri.fi/en/degree-completed-in-finland
      - Permanent residence permits: migri.fi/en/permanent-residence-permit
      I hope this gives you a bit more context 👍.
      Also, since you are interested in building a career in Finland, i would recommend a few resources for you to check out. First of all, i would recommend that you join our Discord server (i dont remember whether or not you were already a member). The idea of the server to build a community of people interested in building their careers in Finland. Second, if you are interested in learning more about job opportunities and job hunting in Finland, i recommend that you download this job hunting app: meetfrank.onelink.me/nwaQ/downloadFI Its a great tool for any international job seekers because its not only a tool for finding a job in Finland, but it also tells you how much money you could earn in your field in Finland. The app is 100% free of charge and ive personally been using it for a few years now.

    • @RoadtoFinnish
      @RoadtoFinnish  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey and thanks for the question! No, the borders are not closed to students, however there might still be some travel restrictions that im not aware of. However, if you travel to Finland from certain countries, there is a 10-day recommended (but voluntary) quarantine that you should do. You can follow the situation from the website of the Finnish institution of health and welfare (the official government website): thl.fi/en/web/infectious-diseases-and-vaccinations/what-s-new/coronavirus-covid-19-latest-updates/travel-and-the-coronavirus-pandemic
      About online studies - most universities in Finland are still doing their courses remotely even if you are in Finland. We had a few covid spikes at university campuses at the beginning of september when the semester started. This caused universities to close their campuses (again). We dont yet know when contact teaching is going to be resumed.

      @RoadtoFinnish  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey and thanks for the interesting question. May i ask what do you mean with living with parents? I would need a bit more context here to give you an answer.
      About teaching jobs in Finland, a general rule of thumb is that you need to have a master's degree in education from Finland in order to work as a teacher. The Finnish education system is highly regulated and has a very high standard for teachers and not only do you need to pedagogical skills to work as a teacher (either as a class or subject teacher) but you also need to speak Finnish to do so. So unless you have a prior degree in education in Finland, the answer here is no.

    Hi Oliver
    How far is national and international ranking important in deciding/selection of a particular university in Finland. How important / credible are the student reviews (TH-cam channel or internet etc)

    • @RoadtoFinnish
      @RoadtoFinnish  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Khalifa and thanks again for a great question! To be quite honest, unless you are applying for the best schools in Finland (Aalto and the University of Helsinki) people dont really care about the rankings. Also, when Finnish students apply to these two schools, they mostly apply to them because of the optics (people want to study at the best schools), not because of the rankings.
      In terms of student reviews, please take everything with a grain of salt and remember that people are reviewing schools based on their personal experiences that are based on a students' perspective. So i would not equate official rankings and individuals' reviews at all (the same goes to my opinions as well). However, i would still watch and read as many student reviews as you can because in my humble opinion, a student's study experience can actually be much more important than the official ranking of a school. This is because if you really, really love studying at a certain school (for whatever reason and regardless of its international rankings), you are most likely also going to do better in school. This in turn means that you are going to get better results and learn more - which in turn is directly correlated in your career. In Finland, employers do not really care where you went to school - they only care about your experience and expertise. So this means that the more you enjoy your studies, the more likely it is that you are going to do really well in your career.
      I hope that this makes any sense 😅

      Hey Fallon and thanks for the question. You have to confirm this from the Finnish immigration service because im only 95% sure. Having said that, my understanding is that all you need is a citizenship in a EU or EEA (European economic area) country. So e.g. if you are a EU citizen but have been living in the US for the last 20 years, you should still be entitled to study in Finland for free.

In Finland you can study medicine in the following universities: Helsinki, Tampere, Turku, Oulu and Eastern Finland (Kuopio campus) and none of them offer an English taught Bachelor's degree at this point.
      Please take into account that this is based on my current understanding but if you want to make sure, you could contact the Finnish medical association which functions as a link between medical professionals, universities and the job market: www.laakariliitto.fi/en/ They will definitely know whether its possible to do a degree in medicine in English.

      I know it sucks that the free education only applies to EU and EEA citizens but you have to remember that the education is paid by the tax payers and that the whole idea behind the European Union was to get this group of countries closer to each other in a number of ways. This also involves the right for EU citizens to get degrees in other member states (not always for free mind you) but at least easier than it would be to get educated e.g. in the US or Russia. So yeah it sucks but do remember that there are really good scholarship options for non EU citizens. I explain those in this video: th-cam.com/video/lyQL4NJwlWs/w-d-xo.html

    I must say, you make it out to be a lot harder than it is. Entrance exams are generally optional and Finnish Universities do accept foreign diplomas. You do have to demonstrate Finnish languages proficiency which, if you don't have proof of Finnish proficiency from a diploma, is as easy as doing a test to get a YKI certificate. As long as you know Finnish, it isn't hard to get into a Finnish degree programme.

    • @RoadtoFinnish
      @RoadtoFinnish  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You do have a point but i would still maintain my position. Even if Finnish universities do accept foreign high school diplomas, this is highly limited and does not apply to most diplomas outside the EU. So it is not a general rule that foreign diplomas are accepted when applying for a Finnish taught university programme. Second, saying that entrance exams are "optional" is pretty misleading. The university application system for Finnish taught programmes was changes a few years back and this means that the majority of students would be admitted to Finnish taught programmes based on their high school final diplomas. Since universities have limited spots available, this means that if your final diploma was not good enough, you would not be able to get admitted using it. This is where the entrance exam system comes in. Im not going to repeat what i said about the entrance exams in this video but to summarise, passing the Finnish language university entrance exams as a foreigner is extremely hard and also something that i would not recommend. Just passing the YKI language test is absolutely not enough to do this.
      So yes, you could theoretically get into a Finnish taught university programme with a foreign high school diploma. However, i would still stand behind what i said in this video because statistically speaking, it is much, much easier to get in to an English taught programme with a scholarship than getting into a Finnish taught programme (and not having to pay for tuition).

      Hey Precious and thanks for the great question! My understanding based on the information that the finnish immigration service has given is yes, your family can move with you after they have been granted residence permits based on family ties. There are some specific requirements for your spouse to get a residence permit. One of these requirements is that one should be able to secure their means of support without relying on any governmental support. You can read more of the individual requirements here: migri.fi/en/spouse-in-finland-with-a-residence-permit
      This is the website for residence permits based on family ties. Do note that there are subpages that address the different type of family ties that you can see from the menu on the left side of the page: migri.fi/en/moving-to-finland-to-be-with-a-family-member
      I hope that this gets you started 👍

If there’s a slight change, I would apply , oh and my GPA is very high and my IELTS score is also very high

    • @RoadtoFinnish
      @RoadtoFinnish  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey and thanks for the excellent question! Also sorry for the late response, i hope this does not come too late.
      So based on what you said there should not be anything that would not allow you to apply for a scholarship. Scholarships are meant for all non-EU or EEA citizens who apply for a bachelor's or master's level degree in a Finnish university or university of applied sciences. There are no age restrictions and i have not heard of a single case where a scholarship would have been denied from someone because they already have a prior degree. However, do note that scholarships are always granted on a competitive basis and the limited number of scholarships means that only the best applicants are awarded with one. However, based on the fact that you have high grades and test scores and IN ADDITION the fact that you have a prior degree (this can actually be a benefit for you), i would definitely recommend you to apply to study in Finland.
      Btw, if you have not yet seen my video on scholarships, i really recommend that you check it out here: th-cam.com/video/lyQL4NJwlWs/w-d-xo.html

      Hey and thanks so much for the positive feedback and the interesting question! This is a wide topic so i would need to write you an essay to cover all the themes. However, i would say that the best thing is simply to learn how to dress up properly for winter. Summers in Finland are actually quite lovely and warm. Not too hot but not too cold. Funny enough, recent years have seen an increase in tourists coming from the Middle East and e.g. central Europe because the Finnish summer is more mild than what many countries further south have. So winter is the season that you should think about. However, this is mostly a question about clothes and knowing how to dress for the weather. Aleksi Himself has a great video about winter clothes and other things that you need to take into account during the winter: th-cam.com/video/l5dp2KsMHiw/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=AleksiHimself-VideosaboutFinland

    Is there any subject in Master degree that choosing the subject get highest chance to get scholarship. I just want to come in Finland as it's my dream country.

    • @RoadtoFinnish
      @RoadtoFinnish  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, there are not specific master's degrees that would make it more likely for you to get a scholarship. Also, i have to say that choosing your field based on which has the best chances to get a scholarships is in my honest opinion a bad idea. What if you find a field that might have better chances to get scholarships BUT you end up hating that field? Do you really want to study and work in a field that you hate / dont have motivation for for the rest of your life. I always tell people to apply to study subjects that they are actually interested in. Every single university in finland has a scholarships programme for degrees taught in english. Some might be more difficult to get than others but none of them are impossible. You have to accept the fact that you have to work hard as f to get a scholarship in finland. If you are not willing to put in that effort, i dont think its the right idea to apply to study in finland. This is, again, because applying to a field just because its the easiest is a very bad idea and will most likely lead you to work in a field that you have no interest in.
      In summary: try to find a field that you are interested in and you have motivation towards. This is because that makes you more willing to work hard for a scholarship. This is the way.

    I am from sri lanka. Is the msc in psycology is also taught in finnish ?

    • @RoadtoFinnish
      @RoadtoFinnish  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My understanding is that you cannot currently study psychology in English but im not 100% sure because there are so many degrees available in Finland. However, i have not yet found any English taught psychology programmes in Finland even though i have spent quite a lot of time searching.

    How to apply for work permit in Finland and how is job opportunities in shipping n logistics

    • @RoadtoFinnish
      @RoadtoFinnish  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Sumeet and thanks for the questions. For work permits, please refer to the Finnish immigration service on this website: migri.fi/en/working-in-finland Im not an immigration specialist and i am not that well aware of the process to apply for work permits.
      About jobs in shipping and logistics: naturally i cant say for sure because im not working in the field myself. However, do note that Finland is basically an nation of export and we sell most of our products abroad. So i would assume that there are plenty of opportunities in shipping and in logistics. Again, i dont have experience in the field so cant say for sure about what kind of jobs there are and how well they are paid.

      @@RoadtoFinnish Thanks for your reply. Really appreciate it !! However, i came to know that usually getting work permit is very hard, the only option is unless i get a job offer from any Finnish company or I have to apply for tourist visa and then search for job and convert tourist visa to work visa.

    Can you explain the process of applying as as an eu student?

    • @RoadtoFinnish
      @RoadtoFinnish  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The application process is the exact same BUT you do not have to pay tuition AND you do not need to apply for a residence permit. I have another video where i explain this process in more depth that you can watch here: th-cam.com/video/nN8Amqu_cVA/w-d-xo.html

    Didn't quite expect that honestly lol,i thought the finnish government would encourage studying in finnish.

    • @RoadtoFinnish
      @RoadtoFinnish  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah unfortunately not. Basically those spots have been "reserved" (not a publicly stated fact, but its my interpretation) for Finnish students since 2017 when the tuition fees were imposed to non-EU citizens by the government. Also considering how much there is to do in order to get a degree from a finnish university to begin with, the fact that you would have to learn a totally new language would make it simply impossible. One more thing, even though learning Finnish can be beneficial if you live here, there is no point in doing a degree in Finnish. Finland is very international and most of our business is done globally. This is why most master's degrees are taught English for everyone. Learning your professional lingo in Finnish simply isnt beneficial for anyone (with some exceptions).

      @@RoadtoFinnish oww ok i see now ,so they neglected the cultural benift for the economical benift so they'll delay the net negative taxes that's being estimated for the future and fill the EU tax that's caused by Brexit, that's kinda smart.

    • @RoadtoFinnish
      @RoadtoFinnish  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well i would not necessarily read that much into that because these decisions are also deeply rooted in the Finnish education system and the way that our entire education infrastructure has been built for a long time. I dont remember the exact reasons for why the tuition fees were imposed in the first place, but even before the change it was not possible to international students to study in Finnish without going through the same process that i explained in this video. As a small country it is logical that its own nationals are prioritised in terms of education - both for economical and political reasons.
      It is true that there is a complex economic aspect to it. Its extremely expensive to educate people especially if they come to Finland just for school and dont stay here for work . In those cases there is no incentive for Finland (or any other country) to invest in individuals for 5-7 years especially since universities have a limited capacity to educate people each year. Each admitted person means that someone else didnt get in and its simply better for the nations economy to educate those who are going to stay there to work (and pay taxes).
      On the other hand, as you mentioned, there is also a cultural aspect to this as well and keeping a balance between these is not easy. What makes it even more difficutl is that its a political question. Im sure that you can understand that it would not be too popular if Finnish universities (which are publicly funded) were to give free education to international students who move to work abroad after graduation (if we make this assumption). It simply would not sit well with the tax payers. So its a super complex problem. Any changes in the system will take years to take place. After this, one has to test and measure the impact on different national and international indicators for a bunch of years before it can be determined whether or not the change had a negative or positive impact.
      Again, i dont remember the exact reasoning behind the change. There are pros and cons for both systems. However, the fact that we nowadays have tuition fees for non-EU citizens is pretty much in line with all other European countries.
      Oh and about Brexit. Thats an interesting perspective but the decision on tuition fees was made years before brexit was even a thing. So it actually has nothing to do with the matter 👍.

      @@RoadtoFinnish Yea i understand that and I'm all in with prioritizing your own people over foreigners, and i think a better alternative would be if the foreign students decided to study in finland then come back to his/her own country ( or anything other country except finland) then they should pay for their education in two ways either by paying the tuition fee up front (let's say 50000€ for the whole education degree if they stated that they'll leave finland) or later if they changed their mind and decided to leave finland after that which also could be also solved by two ways :
      A/ either to pay the "50000€" that we mentioned before but after they graduated and decided to leave.
      B/ or the finnish government could make him/her an offer of working for a period of time in finland that way they could get their money back by taxing him at an interest rate that the finnish government decides then after the period he/she could work were ever they want .
      PS. And if he/she decided to stay in finland and work there forever then he/she won't have to pay for the education and it'll be a win win situation for both the student and the finnish government.
      And actually the decision for paying the tax gap that the UK left was proposed by the finnish government itself after the announcement of Brexit by the UK government.

    • @RoadtoFinnish
      @RoadtoFinnish  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is actually one of the best takes on this issue that ive read in a very long time 👌. These kind of tax solutions could work really nicely. A simple way could be to do a tax exemption equal to the tuition fee. This could be given over a period of 3-5 years (the time your been studying) giving an incentive to work here at least for that amount of time. Really cool. I would actually enjoy having a longer discussion about this topic because there are so many different perspectives and ideas that could be implemented.
      Oh and about brexit, i might have misunderstood your original point. You are correct about the tax gap. I was commenting on something else because i didnt get your original point.

    Can I get work permit after one year master or one study course ??

    • @RoadtoFinnish
      @RoadtoFinnish  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are allowed to work during your studies if you are doing a bachelor's or master's degree in Finland. However, there are limits to how many hours you can work per week, and you have to progress with your studies or your residency is cancelled.
      After you graduate from a Finnish institution of higher education (university or university of applied sciences) you can apply for a residence permit to keep working in Finland. This means that you have to complete the entire degree to apply for a work permit. Please see this webpage from the finnish immigration service for more details: migri.fi/en/after-graduation

    Hi if u don't mind to answer me im from morocco im a university student on my second year major in management and i want to pursuit my studies in finland my question is if i did apply are they going to let me continue my third year Means my last year in bachelor and then start my master or i should start the university there from the begining ?

    • @RoadtoFinnish
      @RoadtoFinnish  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately you would need to start from the beginning. The credits from your home university in Morocco are most likely not transferrable to Finland. I would recommend that you finish your last year of bachelor's studies in Morocco and apply for a master's in Finland after that.
