- The Acolyte was the final nail in the coffin. Disney Star Wars doesn't know what they're doing and they still, after all the failures from previous projects, can't seem to understand what they're doing wrong. In this video, I'll explain some of the projects that failed and why they really annoyed me quite a bit. Strap in and let's get going.
The Force Awakens was supposed to be the return of Han, Chewy, Leia, and Luke in one scene but Darth Kennedy refused.
That's one of the biggest misses, I think I forgot to mention it, but fully agree
I think the other problem was that leias actress is deceased, so you would have to get a different actress to play her.
Kenobi was planned to be a movie but was changed to a TV series because of the reception of Solo, so fluff was added just to fill runtime. I think Kenobi COULD have worked as a film and Solo as a TV show. (But, that's just my opinion.)
They should just make movies and not series.
and Solo was badly received and lost money mainly because the sting from tlj was still only 5 months fresh.
I think they both could have worked as either show or movie just as long as they have a good story to tell and everything in place to execute it well. With that being said, I could def see solo be ing a more episodic show of him and chewy going on random adventures. Obi is better off telling one main story. Not sure what i would want that to be, but I didn’t like the save leia angle or Reva plot. I think they needed something totally different.

I agree with almost everything in this video, the sequels and the Acolyte were not made with the care and attention that Star Wars deserves, and Kenobi felt rushed in many areas. But I will always argue that the Book of Boba Fett is incredible! It was a pure passion project made by fans for fans. John and Dave had already planned Boba's redemption for a while, and used the canceled Clone Wars episode about Boba as inspiration. Boba's near death experience in the Sarlacc did change him. His time with the Tuskens helped him learn about the sanctity of life. Because of that, he was sick of people dying just because someone "in charge" wanted them dead (again, something built off of his canceled CW episode). So he decides to take control of Tatooine, so he can put a stop to the senseless killing straight from the root.
Additionally, the other 5 projects very clearly had a political agenda. The Book of Boba Fett doesn't fall into that same trap, thankfully.
I'm not saying everyone has to like the show, there are plenty of valid criticisms for it, but I personally believe that it is leagues ahead of the other 5 projects mentioned in this video. This is just my opinion, though.
Hey, thanks a lot for the insightful comment! I do agree with you that there is a perspective to be had on the book of Boba Fett where it shows a life changing story of a man that's basically gone through hell and lived a life of regret. The clone wars tv show certainly did already set him up as more of a good guy already in general, so it is consistent in that regard. I just would find it more interesting if we'd get a series in the perspective of him during his prime as a bounty hunter, as that could offer so many different interesting avenues, but the Book of Boba Fetts placement in the timeline isn't really feasible for that type of narrative.
@@StickmanAnakin Fair point! Thanks for being respectful of others' opinions! I agree that it would be cool to see Boba in his prime. Now that they've told his redemption story, I bet that a Season 2 would be able to use the same "flashback" format to show times in his "prime" that become relevant as other ghosts from his past come to stir up trouble in his new life. That would keep it different enough from the Mandalorian.
I’m glad The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, Andor and all the animated Star Wars shows are not on this list, and I disagree strongly with Kenobi and Book of Boba Fett.
I still remember back in 2000s when there were only six Star Wars movies. I’ll always defend at least the first 3 Disney Star Wars Movies, but since then, the movie side hasn’t really succeeded the way you would expect Star Wars to and the TV side is now starting to becoming a mixed bag instead of leaning decent/good
There's only been 5 movies. I don't think anyone would defend Rise of Skywalker and even Disney admits Solo was a failure. Where the Disney magic really takes place is in animation. Rebels, Clone Wars season 7, Bad Batch. Their all great.

As far as I'm concerned, Star Wars is the OT, the PT, Clone Wars and its cartoon spinoffs, Rogue One, first two seasons of Mando, and Andor. That's plenty.
It is NOT the "sequels", Mando season 3, BoBF except for maybe two Mando episodes in disguise, the REEva show featuring Kenobi, Ahsucka, or anything from the "High Republic" which include the Acolyte.
The Last Jedi is still the low point, but the Acolyte comes very close in matching that idiocy.
TFA never set up anything resembling a story connection, so I don't think there was ever intended to be any explicit reference to Darth Revan. At most it was just an easter egg.

Big brain of Kathleen Kennedy to have Luke's arc mirror that of Mark Hamill. Return to the mainstream, only to be insufferable, do nothing special and then linger on as a ghost.
I’ll always love the first 6 movies and some of the tv shows(Also Rogue one) but honestly Disney has just destroyed the brand
When discussing The last Jedi’s failures, you should have mentioned Admiral Ackbar’s plain bad death.

Man, i'm jelaous of all the disney canon fans. I personally just couldn't enjoy the newer star wars material after The Last Jedi, sure Andor and Mando early seasons might be good and all but with the continuity being kind of what it is now, just nah...

Disney saber duels: a lot of smacking, and using the force too much to stop the blade of a saber, and if stabbed, tis but a scrape (unless needed 4 the plot)
P.S, i wouldnt really consider episode 7 a failure because it was anticipated for 10 years and got that monehhhhh. but it does fail the built up lore from the decades prior
It was a failure in the same way that a farmer selling off his seed corn is a failure. Yes, he made more money in the short run, but he has no more seeds for future crops.

Agreee, overall, it is a good setup movie for more to come, but the execution afterwards is just flawed imo

Watched every video analyzing the trailer, re watching the trailer, going to shady web sites to watch the full movie b4 it released (spoiler alert, didn't work) and I was like 8, 9 or something during '14 or '15 and I loved the cliff hangar. But the others left me disappointed and in '17 I fell asleep in the movie theater and conviently woke up right at the ending with the kid during the night xD
I didn't liked force awakens first watching it. Its get worsed after 8 and 9.
8 is actually a really enjoyable movie to watch if you don't think about anything to hard and you consider it fanfic.
Ashoka also deserves to be included in disneys failures, awful show. The exact same problems with the acolyte, pointless story and terrible acting.
I want to make a video on Ahsoka at some point, though I'd say already, I don't fully agree with your comment, but certainly, there are some bad aspects in it imho
I genuinely liked Asoka, villains were cool, costumes were dope and the plot was decent, seeing thawn and the zombie troopers was dope too

They only way Star Wars can get back to the quality we all remembered is if the rights to Star Wars is released from Disney's corporate political greedy claws. But knowing Disney they aint ever gonna let something as recognizable as Star Wars go, they'll burn Star Wars to the ground before they let that happen. So only hope now is let's hope Disney doesn't make it to their 200 anniversary.
I love how you insist that when Disney lets go it Star Wars everything will be magically fixed and we will go back to that nostalgic time you remember when nobody has any problems with Star Wars whatsoever.

Hey, thanks for the comment, these are certainly topics I planned on covering in a future video, overall though, I think these series have flaws, but are enjoyable nonetheless.

The Kennedy era needs to be erased and forgotten, apart from Mando 1 and 2, Rogue One, and Andor. There's no other way to save Star Wars. Too much damage has been done to go forward in any meaningful way.
Maybe the cartoons can stay too. Not sure how canon they are.
clone wars season 7 and tales of the Jedi are easily 2 of the best projects to come out of Disney Star Wars

Personally I really really like Rogue one, Solo is a failure in the financial sense for Disney, but it's inoffensive overall despite explaining random stuff noone wanted to be explained, I really hate the Millenium falcon droid liberator or whatever it's called, but yeah, didn't include it, could've made the list though.

I'll never forgive Disney for decanonizing the eu. Not only did they scrap tons of lore, but they had zero creativity to make up for it. Everything they came up with is either rehashed, pulled from the eu, or pulled straight out of their ass. The new stuff from the force awakens that made us have a million questions were pulled out of their ass because there's zero explanation except for two things.
The first one explains who Snoke is, and it's pulled out of their ass because what's a standcast?? The second is just a last-minute fix when the damage was already done.
The E.U. was NEVER canon in the first place! Only the movies and The Clone Wars was!

Disney literally could've adapted those stories into movies if they really had no creativity to make a story on their own, which they don't. Also, wouldn't Lucas have to ok the stories before they were made?

Call me a feminist, but Rey being a strong female character was never a problem for me. She is literally the granddaughter of the most powerful force user in Star Wars Cannon. Not to mention being raised as a child in a brutal junkyard environment and learning to defend herself with a staff from a young age.
The force awakens was the highpoint, it went down hill when Snoke was never explained, and Rian Johnson failed to pick up on the hint that Rey was written to be Luke’s daughter, not to mention not making Finn a Jedi and her boyfriend.
If the writers committed to the original plan of Rey as Luke’s daughter, Jedi Finn, and explained that Luke was stranded on the island by a fully developed Snoke I think it would have all come together nicely.
But in defense of the sequels Kylo Ren’s slow turn to the lightside was an amazing choice. I liked how his arc was the opposite of Anakin’s. While Vader went from good to bad, Kylo went from bad to good.
Also, his tragic romance with Rey Palpatine beautifully ties all nine movies together. Showing that love can save to the day. Do I wish I knew more about how Palpatine returned, of course, but I am also satisfied with the “dark magic” explanation. The final message that evil is not genetic really hits at the core of what the Skywalker Sage was all about.

Opinion. If some of these story points you mentioned played out in that way and were explained properly while sticking to continuity, I think the sequels could've been great! Rey's power in the force could've been explained by Amnesia or something, where she had received previous training as a kid or something, there are so many possible avenues that could've made sense and worked within the lore, but they kinda ignored the previous stuff and just did it their own way. Training is necessary for every force user, no matter how strong they were in the force, that was established all the way back, so Rey being able to mind trick people without any explaination except she has a great lineage is what breaks it for me. I'm just a big advocat for continuity and keeping within the rules the universe established.

And I could say Episode 12 and 3 break cannon. Bad love, story, and overall, only one good movie came out of it, and that's ep3 The original trilogy still is the best because it was a team effort. The sequel trilogy is a huge success! Disney has made billions of dollars with these three films, there are a lot of fans who enjoy these films and it is so popular that it will have a new film with Rey! We must never let ourselves be blinded by hatred! We must not mix our opinions and reality! You have the right not to have liked these films but to say that they are failures is false! Lying and spreading misinformation is wrong!
