Great great history lesson man. Back in the day having multi tape loops was very desirable. Lotsa folks had at least two tape machines and (like me) often dubbed tapes. The Marantz "story" I know says Saul started building amplifiers in his Queens, NY garage in late 1950's for friends. I was just a kid then so this ain't first hand knowledge. I purchased a Hitachi SR-804 from Tech Hifi at 12 West 45th St, NYC in 1979. As the receiver would be out-of-stock for a few weeks the manager let me choose a "loaner" component of compatible power output. Who would do that today?? I chose the Marantz 1090 integrated amp. Not as elaborate as this 1120. Almost hated to give it back but I've used my SR-804 ever since. Always dug the almost "industrial" look of the Marantz lines, these things were boss and positively ooze hifi nostalgia which explains their sometimes exorbitant prices today, fuhgeddaboudit.

Love it just got a 1120 myself and appreciate the historical significance within MARANTZ that you outlined. I have the same Chanel imbalances and after watching your 2nd video decided that I keep this as a “ Show piece “ in a nice African Teak enclosure. There aren’t any Vintage Hifi repair shops here in South Africa and parts are even more difficult to come by then in the US. On first listening this unit does not come close to my 1060 or 2230 it lacks a lot what the before mentioned have in abundance. Great Channel I subscribed Best Regards from Cape Town South Africa
