But the IRA attacked RUC and British soldiers and other loyalist paramilitaries and yes when the UVF and UDA/R went around killing Catholic civilians alot of IRA men killed protestants indiscriminately but they were told to stop by the chief of staff and commanders of the Belfast brigade because the war was not sectarian but a war for freedom against an occupying force always has been. From the first armed rebellion in the 1600s to the 30 years war in 1969. I hate people that bring religion into it as if that's what it was. The IRA went political and honestly not much has come of it even 20 odd years after the GFA. Now with brexit happening and a hard border may being out in place I'm uncertain what would happen.
