Thank you very much for this educational video! I learned about James Connolly by accident, one of my friends mistakenly attributed his statements from the article Socialism and Nationalism to Lenin. I replied that Lenin did not use the term "nationalism" in a positive sense (e.g., in his article Critical Remarks on the National Question). Of course, it is important that Russia was at that moment an imperialist power, while Ireland was a British colony fighting for independence. If anyone is interested, in the USSR, the attitude towards James Connolly was positive. In the Great Soviet Encyclopedia, he is described as "an Irish revolutionary, fighter for the independence of Ireland": "... Despite some syndicalist-leaning mistakes, he did a great job of propagating Marxism. Connolly is the author of numerous works on the problems of political and ideological struggle, the history of the labor and national liberation movement, economics and military affairs. Hi comrade. Would love to see a video on Seamus Costello, founder of the INLA/IRSP, given that one of Connelly's granddaughters (I think it was) said that this man best embodied the ideology and teachings of Connelly as applied to the context of The Troubles. I know that the INLA went in a very dark direction but there are lessons for revolutionaries in that history, which is overlooked and very much glossed over as an "ethno-religious" conflict by the British, despite the glaring class context. Costello saw the struggle through the lens of Marxism-Leninism and split with the also Marxist Official IRA over the question of armed struggle, hence the birth of the INLA. The Officials went down the "peaceful route" and so the Provos became the IRA, but many were anti-Marxist (also, it is believed that members of the Officials murdered Costello, even though they had supposedly put down their guns. The man was gunned down before he could really get going and the group he left behind was the other main Republican paramilitary group, but the Provos were bigger, had the countryside and overshadowed the INLA. A Marxist approach to The Troubles will always be welcome, but given that Connelly is so rightly respected and looked upon as a great revolutionary, I believe that we should take a second look at Costello. I visited his plaque when last in Dublin and the thought of him being shot to death there, supposedly by his own former comrades, was truly tragic. Just like Connelly himself, who knows what could have been achieved with the right revolutionary leadership if such comrades weren't cut down at such crucial historical moments? Saving this video as Connelly has a special place in my heart. Looking forward to watching it as with all of your content. Slainte comrade.
Hi chuck, yes I have a video on Seamus Costello in the works. It's been written and the audio has been recorded already, just have to get around to putting together the visual elements for it. Seamus Costello was, without a doubt, the greatest revolutionary socialist republican of the twentieth century after Connolly - strongly agree with Nora Connolly's sentiments on him. And you're also correct to point out how Costello maintained the revolutionary path while the stickies took the path of revisionism; by the 80s they had gone so far to the right that they were talking about "socialist Iraq" under Saddam Hussein - an analysis which has zero in common with historical materialism and scientific socialism. Costello, conversely, had maintained the revolutionary road and had been regularly appealing to the Communist Party of China for support during the Maoist Cultural Revolution period, visiting their embassies in Paris and London seeking material support and to build connections with the international revolutionary current for national liberation and socialism. It's terrible what Jim Flynn did to him - a former comrade and all - gunning down one of Ireland's greatest hopes in cold blood like that. Anyway, hopefully that video on Costello will be released in the next month or two - just need to find some time to edit the visual aspects. Cheers for the thoughtful comment. Hope you're keeping well. Sláinte a chara!
Fantastic! Can't wait to see this. Also didn't know about the link with the CPC - can you imagine? What a tragic waste of true revolutionary potential.
Other Marxist revolutionary leader's must include Ghassan Kanafoni (PFLP) Mahir Cayan(Turkish left) Walter Rodney (Guyanese Marxist) There are many Marxist revolutionary leader's who were both influential & militant. . Public ownership of the means of production & distribution remain the base on which socialism can flourish.
I want to start my comment with "We" meaning "Us" the working class within our home countries ... we had James from Scotland and another James from England (lLiverpool were I'm from) so we need to understand that We All needed a "Repuplic" without a monarch BUT we needed Socialism for all of us within our home lands. I recognised the importence of Irish Independence as the majority of Irish people had direct oppression from the British Imperial forces, but remember we on the Bulk Land NOT "Mainland wanted "A Union of Home Nations (and Ireland's full 23 Counties) with us as well Without the British ruling Class/Monarch ... we wanted a Union of Home Socialist inter-working lands.
His support was Urban working class Had no interest in Rural Ireland where farmers had no interest in suffering fate of Kulaks after just gaining control land from Landlords

Connolly is my favorite revolutionary in the ‘16 rising. I think it is funny that my conservative aunt loves Connolly.
Connolly would be conservative today if he loved Ireland more than socialism .I'd imagine him to be called far right in today's standard, if fighting for Ireland's freedom.
@ Connolly loved his people. Believed the Irish were there own different people who’s interests needed to be put over the English. On the other hand he was in solidarity with oppressed people everywhere. So he wouldn’t exactly be anti refugee.
@ he also believed the Irish people should own every thing. That the landlords shouldn’t own the country and its means of production.
@@seanhartnett79 Not to at the point of invasion of unknown illegals,I'd bet he'd back the native Irish that don't want to be outnumbered in their own country.
Close the borders to undocumented 🇮🇪
While he was in America did he meet Debs? Just find it so interesting that Connolly, Debs, and Lenin all came to the same conclusion on the opposition to WW 1.
This hero continues to be an inspiration to leftists around the world. This is an excellent tribute to one of the most important socialist leaders ever.
excellent, Seamus Costello next!
On my list of video ideas - hopefully will be released in the next month or two
I lean more anarchist/syndicalist, but I fucking LOVE James Connolly. The James Connolly Reader is one of my favorite books.
Mashallah daddy Marxist Paul has uploaded
Fantastic content as always.
Cheers comrade. Glad you enjoyed
Excellent well detailed informative video! Pity about the odd typo of the word Derry on the map. Who knew a word could have six silent letters huh.
They're probably confusing it with the future socialist republican stronghold of Liberated Derrylondon in the Eastern Territory of the Irish Isles
Got fucking chills at the end great job
Dig this. Always a pleasure. Keep up the great work.
Sounds like Bhagat Singh
Our day will come!
Great Video Marxist Paul ✌❤✊
Cheers Terry! ✊

Cheers Vixen, glad you found it useful. Hopefully will be able to make these kinds of videos weekly pretty soon
@@Marxism_Today Hope so Paul! Tiocfaidh ar la!
best 'breadtube' content creator, as ever. 😄
I am proud Connolly was Scottish, but even more proud of his actions and writing's in Ireland 🍀🏴🇮🇪🍀 Tiocfaidh ár lá 🍀
Did you delete old videos on the Provos and Connolly? I swear you had a video outlining Pearses socialism
What is the song at the conclusion part of the video
It's called Dublin fog
Amazing educational video comrade!
Other Marxist revolutionary leader's must include Ghassan Kanafoni (PFLP)
Mahir Cayan(Turkish left)
Walter Rodney (Guyanese Marxist)
There are many Marxist revolutionary leader's who were both influential & militant. .
Public ownership of the means of production & distribution remain the base on which socialism can flourish.
Don’t forget Bhagat Singh!
Yo, Paul, what's the name of the outro music?
IIRC, it's a song called "Dublin Fog". I found it a couple of years ago on the Storyblocks website (for stock music and video)
@@Marxism_Today I'll look it up on TH-cam. It's catchy as hell.
Good lord, I'm friends with some direct descendants of his.
They're not necessarily Marxists
They're gonna shit gold bricks. 🤣🤣
Cheers for this Paul
Rest in power comrade Connolly.

Ethiopian Marxist here! Love James
A true international hero......
Amazing video
His support was Urban working class Had no interest in Rural Ireland where farmers had no interest in suffering fate of Kulaks after just gaining control land from Landlords
Jim larkin too
wait.... you are left on replay, i just watched your video yesterday wtf lol
What is the primary contradiction of a socialist society?

I see you've been working on your Irish lingo ☘️
long live connolly
socialism could only work in Ireland, not so much in the US. To be honest, I don't know how long it could even last in Ireland if it was established.
The USA is as much a country as Northern Ireland is. It’s a settler colony masquerading as a multicultural state.
Wow, this guy sounds like he was far more of a Hero that fucking Churchill!
