Fill part of the upper rod with silicone. Otherwise when water gets inside the rod and you tip it up, it will go right into the control box and fry the circuitry. Put some where the coil wire enters both the control box as well as the coil.

Just tried mine that I got on a discount coupon awhile ago that's been sitting in my garage for a while now .Once I got things dialed in I've found lots of things . Unfortunately most of it has been junk eg. nuts and bolts, nails , spark plugs,washers,wires and various of mystery objects that are made of metal but they're so far degraded I can't tell what they were.
It's not bad for a entry level detector and it does do the job . I quickly realized just how much of a junk pile is hidden under my lawn waiting to puncture a tire or a foot . A previous owner had an automotive repair business they were running an illegally out of the shop on the property and buried all the evidence . Lucky me ! Time to start scraping up the top soil . After discovering half of a lawnmower engine buried in the driveway I decided enough is enough . Glad I got this detector but wish I could find something other than junk .
