For all the folks looking for the information. (I have a 2018 vw polo) : if you want to change sound system, just changing speakers won't cut it as the main radio don't have enough power and the sound will not improve much (in my case at least with J794 radio). But when you add this amp and correctly set the gain, oh man this is night and day. So for truly PNP system you need to buy the amp, the Y harness for wv and also the extension cord. If you don't want to buy the last item, you gotta solder some wires but be aware at least in polo there is no space behind the radio so you need to root cables either to the glovebox or to the passenger feet area like in the video. So I had to extend cables myself as I didn't bought extension câbles myself. Hopefully all this info will help someone. Cheers :)
Does a more powerful solution with bass capability exist?
The 4320 seems to be 4 channels only :(
Actually head unit in Golf 8 has decent amp. Same head unit in Octavia 4, and changing speakers to Focal (IS VW 165 in the front, and IS VW 155 in the back) brought major improvement in SQ. Of course additional amp brought another improvement, but it wasn't so big this time.
Will the IY-AC cable work for a VW? Arteon 2019
@@kristianslot1272 I think personally to modify my setup, suppress rear sound or wire it back on the stock radio, add an active spare wheel sub from esx and add a dsp before impulse, from impulse use 4 channels to drive tweeters and midbass separately. Hope it'll work cause I feel like I need to tune this kit very much, and my RTA measurements gave me some bumps everywhere on the spectrum.
@@szczeslaw did you experience any crackling in your tweeters before installing the amp? I have IS 155 in the front of my Golf 8 and the focal tweeters seem to be crackling a lot when i turn up the bass/mids or my volume. Not sure if the solution is to buy the amp or not?
Focal has by far the best audio solutions designed for full integration combined perfectly with the original equipment 👍
After installing, this transformed my focal speakers big time.
I installed this on an ARTEON 2019. Install is not as simple as this unfortunately. What the installer fails to show is WHAT cable he has connected to the amp. From other comments I’m seeing, it’s the extension cord. Luckily I ordered the amp with the IY AC harness and the VW harness. I cut the power cord connected the the IY AC cable to crimped to to the VW harness and it was great. There is no space for the cables behind the radio. You have to remove the glovebox which was very hard. There’s a screw behind the radio I finally found. Then you can route the cables from on top downwards.
Let me know if you have any questions for install on an arteon I’m glad to help.
Did you take photos of your installation? I'd like to see exactly where you routed the cables. Also, where did you store the amp? I have Golf 7 (2017) and it doesn't seem to fit behind the glovebox nor on top
@@randomyoutubenickname hi I didn’t take photos. But I took squeezed the cables through a hole behind the glove box and was able to screw the glove box back in and slam the glove box shut after many attempts.
I slid the amp behind the footwell fabric under the glove box
I have the inside premium 8.2 in a 2021 arteon, my isub twins stopped working but the impulse is fine and not in protect mode, did I blow out the subs or is it a wire issue?
Hello, in the configuration of the amplifier, 10:58 ,could you tell me exactly where to place it exactly to be able to install it that I can't distinguish your image, IMPUTS LEVEL, FRONT CH. MODE, INPUT SELECT, thank you.
Front ch.: 75hz (set switch to the left)
Mode (for rear channels): LPF (set switch to the left)
Input select: 3/4 (set switch to the middle)
Is there a guide to install it in a BMW E93 please? Thanks

hello, the installation in a VW Jetta 2023 MK7 is similar? thanks.
Hi, one question, I saw the Amp and the Isub were feed with the same power line of the stereo, the Factory fuse of the car is enough to protect the components? no risk in feed all components with the same power line of the stereo?
Same question !
Car audio installer and Focal dealer here, No the factory systems fuse is to small (around 10-15 amps on average) and the fuse on the Impulse 4.320 is 25 amps, it will work but will blow the factory fuse when the system is turned up as it could potentially pull 10-15 amps for the factory stereo + 25 amps for the Impulse amp, they want it to look easy to DIY when in reality it needs a new power wire run from the battery like all other after market amps, the only exception to this is when it is replacing a factory amp that has a dedicated fuse (30 amps or so) and thick wires to power it.
What if using just the amp (no sub)? Thanks
@@GETS0MENUTS although your comment is 95% true, I'd also argue that the original radio won't be pulling the full 10-15A anymore as the amplifier isn't putting out true watts anymore. Especially if the Focal amp is connected through low level inputs instead of highs, the OE amp will take far less current.
Still, I'd recommend upgrading the OE 15A fuse to a 20A, and see where that takes you. I don't think the Focal amp can actually deliver 220-320W of power (it says 4x 55W or 2x 160W) at 90% (that gives 250-350W input power) efficiency. Realistically you're looking at half that in true power, so maybe 160W peak absorbed, which is about 10-15A, peak.
With the OE system now "only" using about 5A peak, and the Focal amp at 10-15A at full blast, you're looking at 15-20A tops. The original wiring can handle that, so I'd just opt for upping the fuse a little bit.
@@muizenissen how do I change the fuse?
Is there an installation process for BMW f22?
what about the REM wire? Dont see a bluw wire. Does the amp turn on upon high level input?
Hi,
Please contact your local dealer who is your main contact and will be able to advise : store.focal.com

Focal
When connected in high level, it will automatically turn on. Otherwise if you connect with RCA, you need to manually connect the amp to a remote

I'd like to know the same answer
I am going to install this amplifier to my cupra leon (leon mk4). Except the IY-AC focal cables that are sold separately, do I also have to buy a different ISO harness, in order to plug this amp?

Did you figure out if you needed a different iso harness?
I finally cut the car's speakers output and soldered new wires according to what I needed and how long I needed them... Also, whatever else was going to cost about 70$ more... So I did not choose to buy any additional harnesses...
I have the inside premium 8.2 in a 2021 arteon, my isub twins stopped working but the impulse is fine and not in protect mode, did I blow out the subs or is it a wire issue? Also my installer didn’t amplify the rear speakers, is there a reason for that?
Its only a four channel amp when you add the isub twins you cant have the rear ones amplified solution is to buy a 5 channel amp
@ I wish focal dictated that on their website lol this is the first time I’ve installed aftermarket speakers on one of my cars. Just an update though: I took the messed up sub to my installer and it was under warranty. There was only an issue with the one sub, they fixed it but now it rattles so I have to take it back again lol
Just one question. Why the input level (front side of amplifier) is put on "High"?. When I were install it on my bmw f30, sound is much better when input is put on low.
Hi, did you find the reason of this? Got the same issue
I have Tiguan R with the standard hifi , i have the front focal speakers and the 4ch amp … is it possible to run a powered sub in this situation like a focal bp20 bomba ? Im worried the non powered subs won’t have the bass i want to achieve
If you want a nice sub you gotta power it up. Dont think the impulse has enough juice to power a sub. But bomba one is active so all good it already has 300w of power.
Hello. A few days ago I installed this amplifier with the 2 ISub Twins on my Golf 7.5 following the instructions in the video. But I realized that it doesn't work for the rear speakers, or rather, it doesn't work as it does for the front speakers and the 2 subwoofers.
What do you think is the problem?
How did you solve it?
What do you mean it doesn't work for the rear speakers? When using this amp with I Sub Twin, only the front speakers and the subwoofers are connected/amplified. The rear speakers remain connected to the headunit (thanks to the IW IMP 2.2 cable) and are not connected to the amplifier at all.
@@randomyoutubenickname HI. So the amp doesn't power the rear speakers?
I thought it made everything amplify.
How can I solve to amplify them?
@@ToledoTurbo92 yep, that's what focal doesn't clearly say. They say the rear speakers will continue to work but do not say they won't be amplified. It's a technical limitation, so you need to make a choice. You cannot plug the front speakers, the subwoofers AND the rear speakers on this amp. If you want to amplify all of your full range speakers and your subwoofers, you need to add a second amp for either your subwoofers only or your rear speakers only. The easiest route is to replace your current amp with another amp powerful enough (a 5 channel amp for example) to accomplish that
@@randomyoutubenicknamehi, so if i do not want the subwoofer in my Golf i can use the amp to amplifi the front and rear Focal speakers now, right?
@@DaviCupra correct
My factory headunit is 1 din in a 2 din space. (VW T6). Will it be ok to position the focal amp in the empty din space below the headunit or will it get too hot under there?
I've installed it in my trunk and it gets quite hot after some good pounding haha. But it never shut off or something.
please make a better wiring harness like the vw helix sub ,this iso crap adapter ,is just so wrong in the newer cars, ill gladly pay the extra money for a better harness with zero adapters in it like the vw version helix.
iam very tempted by the this amp for my skoda fabia, the speakers are going in in 2022, i have a spare wheel /and a tow higts so no room for the vw helix sub. this would be nice other wise i would have to modify the loom you have made(easy but would rather get it plug and play with out the iso in the middel)

Sören
does it have volume control by cable?
the foam under the glove box is just a shame from VW .... Thank Focal !
Hola qué cable es el que utilizas? quadlock?Me podrías pasar referencia/marca?
You can get a quad lock extension and just cut the wires, to the amp and back from the amp
Serve em um passat variant 2018 (b8) mib2???
Is the amp just being used to power the subs or is the amp being used to power subs and also the car oem speakers. ?
i see that the amp has 4 channels, so theoretically it can power 2 subs and two front or back speakers.
that harness provides amplification to the front speakers and the two subwoofers. The back speakers run on the factory head unit.
@@writetobill2 In a BMW F10 the front door speakers and the subs are parallel connected so i guess that i don't have to run seperate speaker cables to the subs but they are connected already with the harness?
@@writetobill2 How is this amp working off the 15amp infotainment power along with the infotainment. That's super confusing because the infotainment is already amplifying the signal
@@catinthehat5140 the Focal wiring harness intercepts the signal as it leaves the head unit in the dash, that signal goes to the high level inputs to the amplifier, which inputs are designed to accommodate the signal voltage output of the head unit.
The Focal amplifier feeds amplified signal back to the front speakers and bypasses the rear speakers so that they continue to run from the head unit.
Channels 3and 4 of the Focal amplifier run either a single subwoofer (typically PSB200) or dual subwoofers (typically ISUB TWIN).
The end result is 'front stage, rear fill' which is a standard setup in car and home hifi systems.
The amplifier requires B+ power and an earth connection but the current draw is so low that this can be sourced under the dash somewhere, without having to run battery wire out through the firewall. You can usually tap into the B+ to the factory head unit and change the fuse to 20 amps, that will cover the Focal amp and original head unit which has been relieved of most of its amplification output.
