LOL "Famous last words". Great information once again sir. My favorite knot is the FG, but in a pinch, let's say on a boat deck with a bit of waves, I will rock the Alberto. One thing that I have come to do when tying the FG knot is to have a chair with arms on it about 4 feet away from me. Since you need tension in your main line while tying the knot, I lean the rod against the chair with the tip facing away from me at about a 40 degree angle. I say use a chair with arms because with the main line in your mouth, yes that is the easiest way for me, and you tilt back to get the tension on the line and lift the rod off the chair the arms will keep the rod from swinging. This will make it so that you can worry about tying the knot and not trying to keep the rod balanced and off the ground.
Thanks for putting out good videos that I can watch! I am getting some good info for the tourney that I am in at the end of the month. Heading to Norton Kansas with my local chapter of BASS. I catch some fish, but not the biggest one. All the tips help, and this is actually only the third time that I have fished from a bass boat. Been a bank fisher the majority of my life.
The FG knot is great if you're using a heavier leader... but it starts to get hard to tie when using anything under like 12lbs flouro. That's when I use the Alberto. Great demo!
Thanks, I'm moving up to Alberto knot as I have a new Daiwa Kage rod and it's got micro guides. Thanks Devon! Oh, them some nice Tanned thumbs you got there in the video Fella.
I've used the uni to uni for years until I saw how to tie the FG knot , but let me say that it sure isn't the easiest knot to tie , there are several ways to tie it like holding braid with your teeth , which I chipped my tooth with the braid , that sucked Now mind you I had all last winter to practice tying this knot and I finely found a way to tie the darn thing with out biting braid , wrapping line around your legs , using your fingers and what have you , and it actually works pretty good , I've even used a magnifying glass to check to see if the wraps where correct . I wish I could send you a vid on how I tie it . Any more if I get bored I just tie the FG for s - - - s and grins. Yeah I didn't get notified of the vid ether FYI
@@DEBOSFishing any thoughts on the the cheaper fishing tackle lures available at Amazon and elsewhere VS. The insane prices of Rapala, kvd, strike king etc? Including fluorocarbon lines?
@@whfoulk I've not used many of those. I try to find deals on lures at Walmart and other spots and stack up. For 100% fluorocarbon I've used Seaguar red label. Has a little memory but for cast and retrieve baits it's not really an issue. Hope this helps man!
I’ve been trying a lighter setup with braid to mono and the Uni Knot is hitting the last guide on my Rod limiting my Cast so the Alberto may be a better option, thank you.
Thanks Debo! I think you watch Salt Strong's vid's for tying knots too? You did a good job with both. Those guys go all out with their testing and the fg is the strongest, but I've not had an Alberto knot break and they are simpler. For me anyway. Thanks for the time you take and making it simple.
I use a 9 loop each side Blood knot(by no means is it a a small knot, but it has no slip and is very strong) and going through the line guide isn't an issue I've found. I only fish braid to leader and 90% of the time i use 7-10' leaders. I've used the same leader tied to my braid for several days of fishing and had no problems with the knot going through the guides or the line guide. I know I usually don't need a leader that's 10' long but it allows me to continue fishing without always having to retie my leader or because of changing lures or having frayed line after fishing rocks. When i fish crankbaits i will use up to 15' leader for slightly better depth and longer leader life since the cranks will dig in the rocks and tear up the line really quickly(especially flouro, stuff is so frail sometimes).
Good video man. Still love the uni uni knot but that alberto knot is solid. Caught many a bull redfish on both. Figure if it holds to that then it’s good. 😂
🔥 Vid. Here recently I have been using a modified alberto knot. Wrap 3x up. Hit the valleys 3x coming back. Run tag through same direction as main line (but to the side opposite from what you showed in the video) and wrap around the right side of the loop 3x Pull tight! Tight lines!🎣 Let me know if that made sense 😄
Welll, thanks for this tip for the connection knot. Alberto is a great knot and quick. Only snag is getting it all tied up and cutting the main lines instead of the tag line .... did it twice before I decided to turn a light on to get a better view
I use the FG knot for leader and a blood knot for using backing or the rare occasion I need a leader tied while fishing. My 1st successful FG knot took me over an hour but it does get much easier with practice.
Just started using leaders & also just recently learned how to tie the FG Knot. Can tie it in under a minute. Have to thank Salty Scales & Salt Strong for that 😎.
I think that’s the point use a knot you can tie well. I use a uni to uni and also use a uni for direct tie as I can tie it the fastest and with cutting off the smallest tag too. May not be the best but also never had a issue so it works for me. 30 lb 5 wraps 20lb or less 7 wraps.

Hey is there Debo. I have been wanting to try the braided with a leader set up, but I do not know how long a leader should be. How long do you normally keep your leader? Love the video.
Thanks for watching! I keep the leader out of the reel on my spinning rig. So about 6' leader on my 7' rod. I've only done it a few times on my casting rod for pitching. I use about 5' so it stays out of the tip guide. Everyone is different though.
Awesome!! Ive been waiting for you to post a "leader" video. I'm also glad to see the Alberto works well for you. I think ive told you how im a big fan of the FG knot. I do like it and I can do it quickly however it can be a huge pain to tie correctly. I mess it up frequenty and have to start over alot. I've like the FG a lot when I tie it correctly. I've had a few people suggesting those salt strong or salty scales videos. I'll definitely look those up. I'll troubleshoot what I'm doing wrong and share with others. Thanks for watching, Chris!
Both mono and flouro are great leaders, is all based on preference if you like stretch or flexibility. I personally use flouro because it’s so damn invisible that fish are more likely to bite, at least that’s my preference. Hope this helps you out a little.
The Trilene, Turle, Rapala Loop, Palomar, and the FG Knot are great to use. The PR Bobbin is the strongest braid knot but requires tools. A beach of a knot to tie. The FG is almost as strong.

Hey Debo, I use the Uni to Uni knot now, but am probably going to eventually switch to the FG knot skipping the Alberto. I have used braid in the past but mainly used spinning reels so I'd usually just go with a decent mono line for simplicity or a light braid (15-20lb) to a 3-4ft flouro leader so I could keep the knot out of the eyes/reel. I am however getting more interested in mastering baitcasters and tossing lures into the snag-a-licious spots so I am switching to 65lb braid with a 20lb flouro leader. What length of leader do you find works best for you as an all-around setup that you can go from fishing a jig, to a texas rig, to a spinner bait etc. I have a couple baitcasters and a ton of spinning setups, but don't like taking a bunch of poles unless I'm on a boat so I am trying to find a good utility setup for the baitcaster with my spinning rod rigged for finesse for when I am bank fishing. Keep up the good videos man!
