      Computer Science is math + building projects and applications on your FREE TIME. It’s brutal, I think we are almost tied with engineers. For things to do.

    As someone in my last year of my BA in Mathematics, it’s definitely harder towards the end with more proof based classes. Other than that the other courses can be done with a bit of studying and memorization.

      Certainly gets harder the closer you get to the end. Best of luck with the rest of your degree!

    math is hard for everyone that things makes difficult for many students is that it takes patience and percistence. For many students. math is not something that comes intuitively or automatically - it takes plenty of effort. It is a subject that sometimes requires to student to devote lots and lots of time and energy

    Mathematics is independent work and I enjoy that; it's quiet and peaceful and I like to figure things out on my own, but I miss occasionally studying near a few other people, deeply interested in and dedicated to the subject. It can be motivating, even when you might feel like you couldn't do any more if you were on your own, and we could collaborate every now and then to ask each other questions or share our findings.

    I did a masters in Applied Mathematics and I think one of the hardest part of it was the projects. We had tons of them. Whether it's doing finite element analysis or stochastic processes models, I think the programming assignments were the most time consuming.

    I completely agree with you. I’m going into my last year of a math major and Actuarial science minor, and I definitely struggle more with my Actuarial classes than I do with my pure math classes.

    • @BriTheMathGuy
      @BriTheMathGuy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It can be especially hard when you start stacking things on top of one another. Best of luck finishing your major and minor!

    While i agree with some points i mainly disagree with what makes math easy. Math at higher levels certainly needs mentoring. If you dont understand why a certain theory applies, then you need someone to go through it with you such that it would click. even having the final answer doesnt help. remember math is logical and rigorous, at least at the highest levels. in a way its a from of art. the art of problems solving and unpuzzling. Also these days math majors have to work on projects in a group specially if it has to do with some of the applied stuff such as probability and statistics, computational methods class required lots of lab work and collaboration. passing the test in my opinion is complete opposite of what you said, in my experience. again i say this is just my experience in university. I was almost always ok with lecture material. I felt like i understand it mainly and if i didnt i would read the book or go to office hours and resort to online material. but when it came to test taking, i wouldnt know where to begin. I suppose if you absorb material like you would in a calc class, you would breeze through tests. but if you had to work hard at understanding the theories and concepts then tests were nightmares because when doing homework or simply studying you have the luxury of taking your time and referring to your resources other than your brain. but test is usually an hour or so and its designed for a person to have just enough time to read the question and immediately start working on the derivation of the solutions. It would have been easier if they said here is a take home test and try to be honest. if you wanna use resources other than math teacher down the hall to do the job for you, help yourself to what a real mathematician would have access to as an employee or as a researcher.
    I felt like some group of folks in some of my classes did better just because they had other friends within that circle that took the course the semester before and had all the answers or knowledge. i had to be a full time student while being a full time employee working 40 hours a week monday to friday during math years. just imagine if i didnt have to work and i could live on campus and be 5 minutes away from tutor center or dorm or grad students or library or office hours...

    Math in my opinion, starts off being the easiest STEM major and later on it can get ridiculously hard. At the high level it caught me off guard how abstract it gets and how tedious it can be. I was an engineer major before I changed to an applied math major, I thought it would be easier. I was wrong, its very hard in its own way. STEM is just going to be challenging regardless. I generally agree with what you say though, it is less work.

    Yup we have a hard time in the Engineering Department compare to Math Department...Yeah we have more work however it is worth fulfilling to do it all...yup I agree to you that we have tons of workload in that dept.

    Hi, great video ! Just what I was looking for. What country are you from ? I could not decide between physics and math but after your video I think I am going for math. I hate group works and all this unnecessary stuff. Last time I was at Uni I was doing biochemistry and the main factors that put me off were those. I just wanted to work on my own and get through the year but unfortunately it was like : work in a group, do this project together, go there, come back bla bla bla. Well thanks again for sharing this. All the best. Subscribed.

    math is not hard. its just been taught very badly by the school systems.

    • @Krispio666
      @Krispio666 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      This is silly. Either you have not taken a course in higher math, or you have not yet realized how easy everything else actually is. Math, as a subject, is as hard as it gets. It's no mystery why the greatest minds to have ever lived have been first and foremost mathematicians, while contributing greatly to other fields. Math is not easy for humans - we are not built for it.

    • @teknul89
      @teknul89 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Krispio666 I think he means in general and it’s true math as a subject is not hard to learn but if you don’t know the basic it will be harder when you go to the more advanced math the school system is failing children’s now in these days without teaching them how to solve it and understand it

    It's the proofs that are the hardest IMO. When there are not proofs, I find it way easier to do.

      @@nomarxistspls90 lol this is a throwback, I wrote this while in high school and my only exposure to proof were geometric vector proofs. Currently in my second year at university studying maths and stats. Really liking the proofy maths classes now (real analysis, group theory, etc).

    Hi Bri i want to ask is being a maths teacher in college or school which is better?
    And are you still pursuing actuarial science as was pursuing it before but i drop it as i later don’t feel like doing it or investing in it as I heard there are less jobs in actuarial and i have a really good interest in teaching so I decided to do that now
    Have i taken the right decision can you help me out

    • @BriTheMathGuy
      @BriTheMathGuy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've never taught high school so I can't speak to that. Right now I teach at community college and I'm enjoying it a lot. I no longer pursue anything with actuarial science. Best of luck with your career moving forward!
