E-Bike Question of the Day ⚡🚴 Considering the Ranger S’ weight of 72 lbs, how likely are you to fold and transport it in a larger vehicle? Let us know in the comments below 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼
No way. I’m looking at getting my first ebike, and one thing I want is a bike that is on the lighter size. I want to take it with me when I travel. It’s nice to be able to fold, but I wouldn’t be able to move it! I’m looking at REI CO Op Generation e1.1 or ??
I fold it, roll it into a big plastic tote, then slide it into the back seat of my Subaru Outback by lifting one end of the tote up. Reverse to get it out, and I tip the tote slightly to get it to roll out so I don’t have to lift it. It was just a tad too high to fit into the hatch, so it had to go in the back seat instead. I also use a bungee cord to keep it folded. My dogs were ticked that they couldn’t get into “their” back seat, lol!
This was a very good review. Regarding your question of the day, I'm not sure a few pounds either way makes a big difference with folding fat tire bikes. I think all of them make a wide and kind of awkward package when folded. No way around it since they are big bikes. I think most people that can grab a package of that volume are not likely to struggle with a few extra pounds. I noticed one specification for this bike that, if accurate, is really exceptional. The minimum seat height is listed on the website as 27.2 inches. I haven't seen a seat height that low on any other 20x4. The cast wheels look nice and will stay true but their hub motors often appear to have less torque for climbing compared to equivalent wattage spoked hubs. But that seat height seems to make this bike a really great option for short people.
I just got one of these and they updated the display. It's now color screen. The display also turns completely off. The lights can still be turned on, horn, and turn signals all still work despite the bike being "OFF". Heybike needs to make it where if the bike is off..it should be off! The steam for the handlebar doesn't feel secure. Also this bike has a lot of ghost pedaling and I don't like how quickly the motor takes over to assist. I've played with it a few times and it still seems to come on too quickly. I have not been able to reach 28 mph. The fastest I've gotten the bike to go is about 23 mph and I have the 750 version.
Bought two in September 2024. One broke and after a few emails back and forth to customer service, they sent a shipping tag to send the defective bike back to California. Just received the replacement yesterday via FEDEX. So far so good with customer service. Do NOT discard the shipping box!
On some saddles, you can move the seat fore or aft by an inch or two, try that in shortening the reach distance to the handle bars. Not sure if it’s possible with that seat, but it is on some of them.
I have been waiting for this moment!🤪✌️. FINALLY an E-bike that goes far, and DOESNT BREAK THE BANK!! Time to get one IMMEDIATELY and start peddling ACROSS AMERICA A.S,A.P.!
Is there such thing as a Ranger model, which is only 500w vs a "Ranger S" model, which is 750w, because that's what I am seeing on the Heybike website. I want the bike you're reviewing. The 750w model.
It's heavy because it is a folding cargo bike. Unfortunately, the rack is now rated only 120lbs on their website instead of your stated 150lbs. I consider that a minus since the load capacity is 400lbs. IMHO, Heybike missed a marketing niche by not featuring the cargo ability. I have ordered the 1kW version. We will see if they upgraded the controller to take full advantage of the larger motor.
Just got one 12/10/23. Totally agree on everything esp. gearing. Too bad they have not fig. this out. I.m going to try to tone down the PAS settings today but have heard it does not load well.
Not much that we could tell. The surprising thing about folding frames is you don't detect discernible amounts of flex as often as you think. The hinge is ovten so bulky to compensate for the possibility that it rides farily stiff.
🚨BUYER BEWARE 🚨My heybike ranger ($1200 ebike) battery died completely after 170 miles. Battery no longer holds a charge. Complete brick and customer service won’t help. I would not buy a HeyBike.
Don't spend your money here . They don't honor warranty , customer support is none I've been waiting and ignored months just to get the display replaced on a new bike
Battery compartment is not waterproof. Or even water resistant. There is no silicone battery seal. To keep water out. Also this bike is not Android or Samsung friendly i cant down load it on the app. . I wish I knew this before buying this peice of shit.

I noticed from watching these videos...this model with 750W seemed to subpar power! And I tried to watch the ones with 1000W.

Can the cassette on the gearing be easily changed on the bike by the owner?

The app worked pretty well for us, though it could use some tweaks. Best of luck!
Do you still like it? I have one getting delivered this weekend
The Aventon Sinch 2 which you reviewed recently also has turn signals and a brake light.
The Sinch.2 has those on the rear end of the bike only. The Ranger S has front turn signals integrated into the headlight!
@@ElectricBikeReport Thanks, I should have listened to you more carefully.
How difficult would it be to change the rear cassette to address the gearing issue? I’ve never worked on a e-bike.
Or you could try a Havoc X2 by Fabulous. Dual suspension. 60V dual motor folding bike.
Will you be testing the 1000w version with its new torque sensor drive system?
We don't have that one on the books at the moment, but that could change at any time.
Does this have any frame flex on the folding area
Not much that we could tell. The surprising thing about folding frames is you don't detect discernible amounts of flex as often as you think. The hinge is ovten so bulky to compensate for the possibility that it rides farily stiff.
And what did you have the voltage and current set at going up the hill?
We kept the bike in its standard settings.
Why would anyone choose this over the Portola or the Aventon Since.2?
We really like all the customization you can do through the Heybike app!
Best place to buy one? An how is warranty?
You can shop online here: ebrdeals.com/ebrYT-HeyBike-RangerS
Heybike offers a 1-year warranty on the bike and battery.
What was the slope of the hill it thought it could it thought it could?
Our test hill has an average 12% grade
I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I can't get my bike to even fold up after releasing the latch at the base...
Does the hinge move at all?
How do you put it to unlock the 28mph
This can be done through the HeyBike app!
@@ElectricBikeReport I figure it out the night I commented. I appreciate it!
maybe they can build a 500w legal ebike for canada
