as for whittling down ur physical tbr, you can read the rainbow (one book cover for every color of the rainbow), read the decades (one book released each of the past 10 yrs), blurb tag (take a book and read a book written by the author that blurbed the original book), read books with one or more of the same words in the title, read a classic and then one or more reimaginings/retellings of it
My favorite way to watch people read their tbr is with any random picking method. A spinner wheel, dice, comments, I love not knowing what the next one will be.
I’m 47 and frankly a new reader. I only really started my journey a few years ago when I picked up Sherlock Holmes and devoured every word of every offering. The last two years I read maybe 20 books (besides Sir Arthur’s vast supply), but 2024 fueled my desire and I hoped to really stack up the books and find some new favorites! Currently I’m at 43 books for the year, and I’m hoping to get to 60.
I currently have 6 books on the go ! My brain can not seem to take one book at a time … as great as the book is (without exception ) I need to diversify my reads among big fantasy books .. ! Love your energy ! Just discovered your channel ❤
You could do another monthly or bimonthly series next year, but focused on your physical tbr. Organize them from oldest to least time on your tbr, divide them in groups of 5-10 for example, and make an episode for each of these. You can read the first chapter of each and decide to read or unhaul. Give yourself a week to mood read within a 10 book choice, and by the end, you’ll have to unhaul the ones you didn’t read. Also maybe you’re only allowed to buy a book for each 10 books you either read and/ or unhaul… Gabby also has a video where a random generator chooses the book she’ll read next from her physical tbr. Idk, these are just some ideas but I like the sentiment of going through your physical tbr.
The Veronica Speedwell books are one of my favorite series ever. I will say that the first one may not be the best one, since it has a lot to set up, but so many get way better after that.
I am reading A curious beginning right now and I am having such a blast! And you are telling me that it is getting better after that one! Shut up! 🫶💃🏻I am doing the happy dance right now!
I soooo feel you for the big TBR stressing you out! Maybe do a try a chapter of a bunch of the books to see which you might not even want to try? You could do the lowest rated on Goodreads, the ones that have been on your TBR the longest, maybe the least popular for subcategories?
Reading down your tbr video ideas: Pick an amount of books and those you did not get to, unhaul. Get rid of them. If you didn't make it a priority, it isn't worth reading. Pick a color for the month and read books with red spines, green spines. Read all the short books on your tbr, if they are under 200 pages, put them on the tbr. Have 4 massive books to read for the month. Put the books you didn't read at the end of the month for the last few months of the year. You cannot read new books until those books that you did not read the previous months. Only new books one month so find a month that is having many releases and have only those. Seasonal books, read fall books in the spring, Christmas/winter books in Summer. Or just have groups of seasonal books for the season and do not read out of that season. Each season is like 3 months. Have a seasonal TBR with like 40 books. Have people choose what idea for the coming month. DNF anything you are not vibing with! If you want to give a book another chance, put them with the books you didn't finish each month and read it another time. Have one space each month for a mood read. That one book you want to read. If the page count is equivalent to two books, replace it and put the books back onto the tbr or the pile of books you didn't finish that month. The price you have to pay to read what you want. Series, put at least one series book on your monthly tbr. Hell, have a month where you read 10 books from ten different series (or however many you choose.) Fix your shelves to show your TBR. It'll be satisfying to see the shelves get more empty as the year goes by. Find a comfortable amount of books you're willing to read. Go based on your mood, if you read more in summer, put more on. If you feel you're going into a slump, stop reading but know you'll have to put those unread books on the pile that'll have to be read at the end of the year. 6 months into the year, you can change your good reads goal number. My good reads is: laurakellylitfit I'm at 445 out of 500.....when I dnf, I have to replace the book. I refuse to get into a slump. This has been helpful this last half of the year. Next year will be 550 to 600 books. I am making tbr lists with all the books I have seen people read and love, seasonal books and books that are coming out. I'm trying not to be at a loss of what to read, each book is what I like, each series will be made a priority.
You could choose a word that appears in multiple titles on your TBR and read all books with that word - I had several books with 'blood', 'night', 'heart' etc in them. Or you could make your own book box package with books you already own on a really specific theme (e.g werewolves or knightcore or your fave movie)and fill the box with cute themed treats to unbox. That'll be good content and get you excited to read.
I always have multiple books on the go. I don't know why! I just cant seem to choose one lol. As for next year, I think reading down the TBR would be great esp if you're aiming to move sometime in the upcoming future. get a head start on potentially unhauling or combing thru your TBR
I've started forcing myself to listen to older TBR of beloved books, and it's going really well so far! I recently read The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison and The Sentence by Louise Erdrich.
girl my reading goal this year was 30 books...and i'm 7 behind...and 9 of the 17 books i HAVE read were plays or poetry (aka very short books). so this year has been a struggle, you are not alone
2025 feels like a good year bc it’s a satisfying number. 20 and 25 are both divisible by 5 and are next to each other in a 5 increment progression. 25 is also a quarter of a century, so it feels momentous. (at least in my brain lol)
I'm also so so excited for Everyone This Christmas Has a Secret (or whatever the exact title is), both previous books in the series have been such FUN reads! Re: reading goals, I'm about 4-5 books behind on my goal depending on the day and it's driving me crazy because if I was more behind, I'd just drop the goal and say oh well but I'm juuuust close enough it feels like I'll end up like. 3 books short. and if I do it will HAUNT me 💀
If you like the spontaneity of having people pick books for you, you could have a Patron select a few books from your TBR for you to read one month next year
Meg I am so sorry for missing your last month of videos as I have been helping my mom battle through her cancer journey and I am so sad to say that she has lost her battle ❤❤❤love your Aussie family friend John ❤❤❤
Leap years generally have a bad rep. It is said that they bring bad luck or something. The worst for me was a leap year (2016), COVID-19 quarantine started during a leap year (2020) so I can't really disagree.
You could do a random number generator for the books on your TBR/shelves or make say 20-30 origami stars with 1-however books on your TBR/shelves and pick them out at random or write say 10 books you are super interested in inside the origami stars and 10 you aren’t so interested in, to whittle your TBR/shelves down, I’m trying to get my get my kindle TBR down from 600 + to find the ones I’m really interested in reading 🤞🏻🤞🏻
I’m 2 books behind on my goal but I dropped it by 50 books earlier this year so really far from the 200 I was originally aiming for. Maybe make a TBR shelf/cart and just whistle that down, no concept just clear the cart/shelf.
You could do a few videos where you pull from your Patreon picks to get your tbr down! You're probably never going to pull all of them for actual tbrs so that might be a good way to get through them and keep the jar from getting out of hand
That's me, I'm always reading so many books at once just because I keep starting them and then putting them down when something else seems more interesting 😢
A lot of books I've been reading lately are enjoyable during the first half then dull the second half so tbh... you're probably enjoying ur reading time more than I am. I force myself to finish books that aren't interesting to me lol.
@@Horrorbabe4 oh no :( I hope you can find some books you enjoy! I don't think reading just the beginnings is that good really. I actually tend to dnf a lot, mostly in the first half. Sometimes even after less than 50 pages 😅 I get bored way too easily!
@@magda_mf maybe we both just need to pick better books for our own tastes somehow, lol. dnfing sounds liberating. I need to learn how to put a book down if it's not my thing. Maybe an "eyeroll tally"...when I roll my eyes more than twice, I'll DNF it.
@@Horrorbabe4 hahahah love the eyeroll idea 😅 Yes I love dnfing but I can also understand why you would plough through after having invested so much time into reading that book. The moment it starts to feel like a chore is a signal to dnf imo. Just skim through to the ending. Did that quite a few times! I really hope we manage to find some better books 🤞
I would love to see you read all the books you added 2020/2021 to your tbr maybe do them monthly or quarterly like reading books ive added jan-mar 2020 or so 🫶🏻
2025 is automatically good vibes because its not 2024. I agree this year has been the worst for me and I already know a bunch of things are lined up for next year to be better.
I keep trying to say things will get better. But they keep sucking. St one cat in July. 2nd cat in august. My health is not in a good spot and the doctors aren’t helping. Adopted a senior cat on the 9th who I loved instantly. By the following Monday he had passed. There is no light at the end of the tunnel for me.

When the Moon Hatched by Sarah A. Parker will probably win the Romantasy one. That has been everywhere!
Take all the suggestions in the comments, put them in a jar, pick one for each video you do, and there’s your video series :)
