I am 75 and was a young adult in the 1960's. Listening to Russell Brand reminds me of all the pseudo-intellectual young men affecting superiority in order to manipulate their circle of people to adore and revere them. He is a bad mannered child who believes in nothing. He always reminds me of that old saying, "If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit."

    • @juanpablosanchezaveleyra6454
      @juanpablosanchezaveleyra6454 ปีที่แล้ว

Well, you remind me of people that base their opinions on their own subjective appreciation rather than actual facts and you know, reading about a subject. You people are so ignorant that think that you don't need to listen and pay attention to others views, opinions and facts. You just take the opinion of the media you trust as absolute truth, and inform yourself of the other sides stance from the very media that stands against them, lol. People can be so dumb, yeah, even 75 year old people. The fact that you are older does not always equate to being wiser, smarter or have more truth, most of the times just perpetuates biases, bad habits, wrong world views and gives them a sense of righteousness.

Indeed. He only impresses those who have.no idea what's gone before. Most of his starry-eyed followers appear to be either (a) decidedly uncritical (b) not very well read (C) fairly young (d) easily impressed.....or all of the above. Problem is that, as with most of these new age prophets over the years , characters like Brand complain, endlessly, about "the system" .But, as Russell has shown on numerous occasions, when they have to provide specifics in regard an alternative, they suddenly go silent. Critical thinking amongst viewers serms to have declined in direct proportion to the rise of social media

I fully take your point. I thought "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" was hilarious. He is a human so he does have a right to his opinions, I'm sure he (as a former addict) may have some unique takes on life, possibly even thought provoking. However, he's just another human. I watched part of one of his random TH-cam videos & was honestly confused. I haven't been following him so I had no idea he'd full on drank the Kool-Aid. At 1st I honestly thought it was a bit. Until I left a very tame, yet left leaning comment & was absolutely dog piled by his "followers". The amount of vitriol & hate that came my way (granted not from him, but still his peoples) was surprising. I learned my lesson & will never share my opinions on that particular forum again. Peace

David is 100% right, Russel Brand has correctly profiled Joe Rogan's / Tucker Carlson's / FOX news audience and he is simply repeating their talking points, defending what they defending, attacking what they are attacking, and using that as a blueprint to build his podcast. And that would be just fine if he is honest about it - but he is not - and that is the problem. He is "branding" himself as the objective, and someone you can trust - as opposed to big media (the part that is not owned by Murdock) - when he is merely telling his audience what they want to hear it.

Needing vaccinations to travel is nothing new it isn’t a new conspiracy a Country can deny you entry, and make you jump through many hoops , not just vaccinations. England requires you to produce bank records to prove you have $10,000 in the bank , a round-trip ticket and proof of accommodations while you’re applying for a visa to visit. Americans don’t need that to go to England, but if you were from India Bangladesh, many Middle Eastern countries, they have those kinds of rules for you. What he is complaining about is trivial because customs can decide anything they want or you could just not go there.

You use the fact that in reality we cannot know most things 100%, to perform a logically fallacious creep towards a 50/50 "it's just as unlikely as it is likely", and worse, hopping from that to "it's definitely got to be a lie!"
You don't apply the same standards to "doing your own research". You'll gaslight the scientific consensus with thin "but what if, maybe, they're paid off by the industry" just-asking-questions, but you'll respond with an article from OANN or some other self-proclaimed "independent" media without also questioning their motives, biases or potential for human error.

The problem with Russell Brand is that he often half thinks through an idea and then opens his mouth and expresses those thoughts. Later he then sees the results of his expressing those thoughts, rethinks and comes up with a contrary view. Sadly many only hear the first thoughts and ignore what comes later. A few years ago he told young people (his main audience) that voting was a waste of time and that they should use their energies elsewhere. However this was in the lead up to the UK Brexit vote and a large number of young people followed his suggestion. The result was that the UK voted to leave the EU which was very much against the best interests of those same young people. After the result was announced he rethought his position and said that maybe it was a mistake to suggest people didn't vote but then excused himself by saying but I'm a comedian and not a politician. He seems to want the notoriety and fame of his actions but not have to face the consequences of those actions.

You and those like you need to realise that the reality of Brexit is now emerging and it's just as bad as the experts we were told to ignore said it would be, it never was Project Fear but Project Reality. Now no doubt you and those like you will continue to blame anything and anybody for the failure you wanted. however there is a very strong British characteristic that will come to the fore in the coming years and that is looking for somebody to blame when Brits feel they've been lied to and conned and you among others will be among those that get turned on.
Come this or next Summer when people return to their Mediterranean holidays and suddenly they have to queue where the last time they visited they just sauntered through. when they discover that many of the things they took for granted have been taken away from them they will come back angry. When the cost of living increases with no benefits that anger will grow.
No doubt the right wing media lies will continue until the point when those media owners realise the tide is about to turn and they too will be the target and suddenly they will revise their opinions. Just how many other countries have the Daily Express now told us are about to leave the EU over the past five years? It would be easier and shorter to name those they haven't claimed were leaving. But they're all still there and when there is any talk by right wing parties of leaving the people take to the streets to demand nothing of the kind happens.
As Winston Churchill said the truth always eventually comes out and those responsible for the lies are held to account. Sadly however there will be no rapid return to the EU for the UK because the nations of the EU no longer trust us and will only take the UK back on their knees because as we see every week it turns out that the UK needs the EU much more than the EU needs the UK.

@@tomwilko7841 You clearly have a problem understanding English don't you? The largest demographic that didn't vote in the referendum was the youth. That youth are more heavily influenced by celebrity influencers. When an influencer says don't vote there's no point that has a real impact.
Just as the older generation who did vote were influenced by the lies of the Leave campaign who told them the EU was out to get them and we were going to be flooded with immigrants.
Both groups voted or didn't vote against their own interests. The youth have suddenly seen their future advancement curtailed and will now have to pay much of the cost of Brexit. The elderly are suddenly discovering that their care homes are now short staffed because those immigrants who cared for them went home and new carers can't get in because they don't get enough points. What many of the elderly also did not realise is that they will now miss out on phase two of the EU Pensions Directive. Phase one involved equalising the EU retirement age Phase Two involved raising Pension amounts to the best in the EU. As the UK has some of the worst State Pensions in Europe UK pensioners were in for huge increases which they voted away.
Back to the original point the younger generations are hugely influenced by celebrities and influencers and in 2016 Russell Brand was such an influencer and according to those questioned did deter a large number of young people from voting. so yes he was a large factor in the outcome of the vote. From the comments that came after the result was announced and people were questioned as to why they voted the way they did he himself realised that he had had a negative impact hence his statement "I'm just a comedian, people shouldn't listen to me on such important matters." But clearly your understanding of English fails to allow you to comprehend those facts.

He was honest about his drug use and honest about what it had cost him over the years, and also honest about the struggle to keep clean over time. Then there came a change when he started to become a bit of a life commentator offering his views as an outsider looking in on British culture. He began appearing on TV talk shows etc as if he had some special wisdom. I think people bought into his persona out of respect for his journey in getting clean from drugs. An uncle on my mother's side had polio, because there had been no vaccine for it, and he spent a lot of his life in an iron lung. We visited him in hospital once. Yeah, and seeing his recent videos on the war in Ukraine where he is echoing ideas of contrarians/anti-establishment figures. Ideas like that Russia's invasion of Ukraine could have been prevented if the US had given Russia the 'security guarantees' it asked for such as barring Ukraine from joining the EU or NATO while at the same time ignoring why exactly Ukraine would want to be part of EU or NATO in the first place and also at the same time somehow being naively confident that Putin wouldn't have done so eventually anyways. Past behaviour is usually a good indicator of future behaviour, Putin is no exception.
At the same time, they are also peddling ideas that border on conspiracy theories that the US/WEST has intentionally psyop-ed Putin/Russia into starting this war by not giving enough visible support to Ukraine in the years prior and not condemning Putins' prior war-mongering enough to keep him in check. Knowing that he would get bogged down in Ukraine, so they are saying the US/WEST/EU has manipulated Russia to further their geopolitical goals. So which one is it?
Russell is revealing himself to be more and more comfortable with being contrarian/anti-establishment to a point where it borders on lunacy because he's getting rich from all the attention he gets for being 'edgy' most notably he is very popular with right-wing adjacent types.

@@troyburgeon518 Nowhere did I say anyone should be stopped from saying anything, including "the earth is flat" and "flat earthers are idiots".
The flat earthers, Q, anti-vaxxers, etc make money from their advocacy. You think the round earth scientists are in the pay of some mysterious paymaster while the flat earthers are noble truth tellers, doing it for no money? Big FE names have monetized youtube, books, merch, etc. Mark Sargeant for instance.
I have investigated flat earth, assumed it true, and looked at what implications would follow. North star/latitude/sextant, gyrocompass, gps, no FE map, sunset/sunrise, ham radio moonbounce, navigation, a hundred things that make perfect sense on round earth and no sense on flat earth. Do you think we should continue to be skeptical about round earth? Could the earth be flat?
Q has made many predictions. Q adherents argue with each other and ask why none came true. Do you think we should consider the possibility that Tom Hanks traffics babies in tunnels with Hillary Clinton? I have watched their videos, they are full of preposterous claims and they have no proof.
I have taken the vaccine, all my family, friends co-workers. None of us have died or become magnetized or anyhting, and no one I know has gotten covid. I know people in Kansas and Missouri who are anti-vax and all of them have had it, one is a long hauler who may never draw a full comfortable breath or be able to do physical exertion.
The medical industry has lied, mostly about new medicines they want to sell on safety and efficacy. But if I get a health problem, I am going to a hospital and not a faith healer because most of the time they are doing the best they can honestly. Their imperfection is not proof that snake oil is true.
What I am saying is there are ways (rational analysis, facts and logic) to tell what is true, this is a skill. One must trust others, we can't all figure everything out personally. I am skeptical of everything, but mostly the mainstream is right about the shape of the earth, medicine, etc. One indicator of truth is how much conspiracy is necessary for your narrative. Q, anti-vax, and flat earth all require multiple huge conspiracies. Q requires that conservative republicans endorsed or appointed by Trump that became lying conspirators in at least 4 states. Another indicator is consistency with known facts. Another is consistency with itself, do all the advocates tell the same story. Flat earth is all over the place, each FE has their own version. RE has one story that all REs tell and checks out with physical realities.
The mainstream is imperfect, but the alternative stuff has always been preposterous when carefully checked out in detail. I will continue to check out all possibilities, I won't rule out that some alternative web site could reveal a mainstream conspiracy, but so far, haven't found one.

Brand has long been riding the conspiracy theory train. He DID appear once on an Alex Jones podcast. I still kind of root for Brand. The way he turned his life around. And I like him as a spokesman for drug addiction. And I rather like the way he seems have settled down and embraced married life and fatherhood.
