Lots of great stuff in here I didn’t know about! I never even thought about the stairs at catcall lmao. A lot of the skips I used to attempt are now obsolete bc of the patches in the new ver (rip KT) so it’s nice to see and learn about new ones. I dropped you a follow on Twitch so will def be sure to stop by. Keep it up :p
I only watched this post commentary because I don't have time to watch both runs, but I think I made the right call to choose this particular one :) Your explanations of the story, the techniques and the reason you use them are very good! It's interesting to hear how someone explains the game to an audience who might not be familiar with it. I also learned quite a few things! For example, I wasn't fully aware of Steel Fist Sake's potential. It's sounds very useful even on a casual playthrough, but I barely used it! I also like your explanation for why it strengthens Cherry Bomb as well. "Explosives get stronger with alcohol." Why is it a downside that you can't bark while holding something in your mouth? As far as I'm aware, it's only useful to show your stats, so I wouldn't consider it something bad ... I hope we'll discover more uses of the interiors stored under the map; maybe it's possible to skip the so far unskippable things with them? Not sure how, but there has to be *some* way to skip things like the Taka river, the gate to Gale Shrine, the gate to North Ryoshima and Catwalk. I mean, we skipped so much things already thanks to Cutscene Teleportation, climbing walls (I liked your line "The devs didn't anticipate that we would get creative" XD) and, as mentioned, falling through the map. There HAS to be a way to skip the rest D: Things I liked about your commentary: - How you point out that you never save Sei'an and Wep'keer because it's too slow. - How you mention Oki's skipped character arc because of how funny it is that the required meetings and scenes still happen. - How you say directly that some requirements and scenes in the game (like Ammy and Issun breathing underwater or how Himiko fills her rooms with lava) don't really have an explanation. - Your hilarous theory about the ball in the beginning turning evil and destroying the world. HEADLINE: BALL PUSHING PHYSICS CREATE EVIL ENDBOSSES! Things I learned thanks to your commentary: - The weakest weapon is still the best one in a speedrun. - The Stray Bead chest in Catcall Tower can spawn on your first time through. - Cherry Bombs explode immediately in grass patches. - Platforms don't have a bottom and can be jumped through. Overall, I'm really thankful for this helpful Speedrun Explanation video!
Thanks for the kind words! The thing about not being able to bark was sort of a joke - barking is just fun to do. Skipping other things with interior clips (falling through the map into a different part of the map) is kinda situational, so there aren't that many potential skips with it. Catcall tower is a separate map from North Ryoshima, for example, so we can interior clip to the top of it. The river in Agata has no buildings across it to clip into. The entrance area of Gale Shrine is actually an interior of the rest of the dungeon, so you have to move *up* to get into the main areas (doing 100 kt's to go upward was actually the original method of getting in for NG+). If I had to guess, the only fast remaining interior clip we can't yet do would probably be getting out of bounds in the bridge area of Sei-an to interior clip into one of Himiko's Palace's treasure rooms, which would skip Sei-an Bridge Skip and Rao Skip.
And yet another question! Does your Exorcism Slips deal a specific amount of damage, or is it modified based on your equipment/Steel Fist Sake? Same question for Cherry Bombs: can their power be modified in any way shape or form?
Exorcism Slips deal a fixed base damage based on their level (Small, Medium, Large), but some enemies are more resistant than others (some take less damage), at least that's my understanding. Steel Fist Sake affects only the damage of Ammy's Divine Instrument, Sub Weapon, and Cherry Bomb, afaik. We specifically rely on SFS + Cherry Bomb for many fights, especially for enemies that would otherwise take too many Exorcism Slips to defeat.
@@Auride Alright, thanks! I just discovered recently that you can water Cherry Bombs to stop their fuse, then later on either flame them to instantly explode them, or place another bomb next to the defused ones for a bigger blast (with CB 2 and 3, of course). Probably useless in a speedrun, but a little fun mechanic :P
Say, how do you do "Brush Adventures"? From what I read, you try to move your brush and rotate the camera so the center point of the Celestial Brush UI isn't centered on Ammy anymore, and thus allow you to shift the brush's camera boundaries, which grants the opportunity to perform brush techniques from farther away places. However, I cannot seem to do it properly, as the camera shifts back to Ammy right after I exit the Celestial Brush UI.
The camera mode you start with matters. The camera can follow Ammy at a closer distance (inner cam) or farther distance (outer cam). You toggle between them using the left shoulder button, unless you've changed the key binding. In outer cam, the brush will always move back to Ammy after you release the brush. In inner cam, it will stay put after the brush, but will still snap back to Ammy if she moves (jumping, tackling, or using the left analogue stick) or if the camera is moved outside of brush (using the right analogue stick). Be very careful when releasing the brush to not hurt any buttons or sticks which would break it.
@@Auride Oooooh, so basically, if I am in close-up camera mode, and perform this technique, if I come out of CB (Celestial Brush) and don't touch any other button I should have the camera in a different place, without it coming back to Ammy? On another note, how do you manage to get said camera to go out of bounds, like in Kamui and the Oki skip? Is it only on specific locations (i.e. an invisible hole in the map, some weird collision issues because of angles, etc) or is it possible to do that anywhere at any time?
Yes, as long as you don't touch any buttons besides the camera button, you should be able to leave the camera in place. This is important for longer brush adventures, where we must release and re-press the brush button (this is called "re-brushing") to allow the camera to move further. There are many ways of clipping the camera out of bounds, some of which are more general than others. The one I use for Oki Skip requires the particular geometry of a sloped floor forming an acute angle with a wall. On the other hand, the method used in Cursed Ryoshima and Wawku Shrine is quite general, and works in many places with flat ground. You can read more here: okami.speedruns.wiki/Brush_Adventure
Why is power slash used in the turnip digging game rather than a dot? I always use a dot which covers mushi's mom with ink and stops her for longer(at least in the original wii version)
Power Slashing the pot on her head stuns her for exactly as long as covering her with ink (4 seconds in both cases). Inking requires a short downward stroke, not just a dot. I mostly prefer PS just because the camera alignment tends to work out better to draw a horizontal stroke over her pot then a vertical stroke down her body.

Very relaxing, I watch this every night to sleep! Love your calming voice
I love watching this after the one before it. Seeing routes evolve is so cool.
Ignore Crimson Helm lol 😂
(Edit: the splits just keep getting funnier)
1:12:10 Why not sprout a tree instead of a Power Slash? Wouldn't that stun the super armor of the doggy?
Dot tree doesn't break the super armor, whereas power slash does.
